I have an excel spreadsheet that has email addresses only in it but no names.
When I try to create a distribution list in Outlook 2000 it will not create
it. Do I need a name for each email address? Can I create a DL without the
names?

How are you trying to create this DL?

create a new folder in contacts, import export in outlook contacts, comma
seperated values windows, map customer fields, move email from left window to
email on right window (all thats in the csv file is email addresses), then
finish. When I do NEW, Distribution List, Select Members, I can select the
folder that i imported the emails to but no names appear in the name's window
and i cannot select it nor 'add' the folder or name in the 'add to
distribution list'.

Importing doesn't properly resolve mail addresses and I suspect that's why
you see what you do. So, instead, open the CSV file in Excel, select all
the mail addresses, then press Ctrl-C (or click Edit>Copy). In Outlook,
open a new DL and click Select Members. Click in the Members field, then
press Ctrl-V or right-click and select Paste. Click OK. That should add
the addresses to the DL, with the addresses filling both the Name and E-mail
fields. It worked for me.

Brian,

I am beginning to suspect Outlook will not let you create a distribution
list WITHOUT having something in the name field. I have no names in my
Excel.csv so I inserted the email address just like you did and it worked. I
wonder why?

A DL will always have a name field value, even if it's just a copy of what's
in the E-mail field.
