Outlook Contacts Lost - Are they gone forever?
A colleague is changing PCs and needed her contacts moved from one computer
to another. I've done the export exercise in the past without luck. This
time, we decided to move her contacts to a separate folder (to preserve the
existing contacts in case of corruption) and copy that folder onto a thumb
drive. Used the "create folder" option on the drop down menu, created the
folder, and when I clicked Okay, only one contact was moved to the new
folder. Went to the old folder to try to move the lot, and everything was
gone. Only that one contact remained.
There was no warning note of "are you sure you want to delete all files" or
anything like that; looked high and low; had our system administrator search
the server, they are just gone.
How is this possible? By the way, this isn't the first time I've lost
contacts - in a pc to mac conversion, the import/export feature completely

retrieve distribution list
I accidentally deleted a distribution list (highlighted a member and hit
delete to delete that member). Outlook won't undo. It is not in the deleted
folders list. I need this list please help.

2007 Contacts to 2003
I need to copy all my 2007 Contacts, including Distribution Lists listed
under my Contacts, to Outlook 2003. I can copy all but the distribution
lists, anyone know why? What I do is export, to a file, excel file, select

Address book - automatically includes country when printing out
An address is entered in as a contact in the address book either via Word or
via Outlook contact sheet. When it is printed , United Kingdom is
automatically printed out as well. How can I get rid of this ie the default
setting is without UK.

Contact Phone Numbers need resetting
Hi,
I have a public contacts folder set up in outlook 2000. Unfortunately the
phone numbers were typed in the following format + 1 - 232 - 67890 (spaces
and dashes as shown). We have now upgraded to outlook 2003 and now when we
add new contacts the phone number format is set to +1 232 - 6789, even though
we type in the format originally used (BTW the contacts form is moified which
stops the numbers being underlined for some reason). The problem I have is
that the 1300+ contacts that where already there need changing to match the
new format. I have tried changing and reseting the Dialing properties to
another country and back to UK, and exporting to PST file and re-importing,
but no luck.
Does anyone know how to automatically reset the existing phone numbers to
the new format please.

OUTLOOK and the missing WAB.DLL
I have just loaded Office2000 Premium SR-1 on Vista Home Premium.
When clicking on the "To:" in Outllook I get and error message suggesting
the WAB.DLL cannot be found.
I have searched Microsoft and they suggest renaming the wab32.dll from
Outlook Express. (which I dont have on Visa).
They also suggest loading it from either Win95 or Win98.....
Lastly, I am running the 64bit OS

1000 contacts Outlook 2003 using Outlook Connector to MSN account
I've just migrated from a business account to a personal account in Outlook
2003 using Outlook Connector to sync to my MSN account. I'm getting the
"address book may not contain more than 1000" error message, and have checked
to make certain the .pst files aren't checked to be used as Outlook address
books but continue to receive the error message and cannot add new contacts
(currently have 672 contacts). I've probably done something wrong but can't

Import Contacts from Windows Mail
Having experimented with various email programs, I now have Outlook 2003
installed and my contacts are stuck in Windows Mail. I have tried exporting
from Windows Mail and Importing to Outlook, but I find it quite impossible to

New Contact Not properly Saved
When I create a new contact if does not show up on the contact list.
However, when I use seach it finds the new contact intact info is another

Mapping Contacts When Importing them from an Excel file
Is there any way to save a custom mapping in Outlook so that each time I

Default display for business cards
I am using contacts in outlook 2007 for my personal contacts (and business
contact manager for buisness ones). The default business card in outlook
includes company, jod title etc which is not relevant for my personal
contcats. I have worked out how to change individual cards but is it
possible to change the default - or to change the layout of the business
cards for all contacts at once (and all future contacts)?

Is there a way to get the contacts list when using webmail to autofill when
entering the contact name in the to field rather than needing to select the

User 1 has the abillity to view user 2's contact list. However, every time

How do I stop unwanted changes to the Outlook "Display As" field?
The "Display As" field in Outlook 2003 Contacts often independently reverts
from the display name entered, to simply the email address.

If I try to enter an Email address from the Address Book into the cc or bcc,

Outlook 2003 - strange contacts problem.
User1 sends email messages with the correct email address to User2. User2
does not receive them. The messages are not stuck in the Outbox and are
listed in the Sent Items folder. The problem continued until the nickname
entry and Outlook contacts entry for user2 were deleted. Why is this? Does

how do i retrieve lost contacts
i tried to create a new category and when i did it pulled in the same
contacts as an existing category. I went to edit the new category by
deleting contacts i didnt want in that category and it deleted the same from
the existing category i wanted to keep the same. Can I retrieve those lost

How do i create a distribution list with 500 names. There seems to be
problems when i get to about 100. I have to create 7 with 70 names in order

Save and use my configured Advanced Find Results. How?
I have found it useful to add and remove columns from the results in Advanced
Find. However, it would be even more useful if I could save the
configuration for future use.
For example: Advanced Find now displays it search results for Contacts as

I have search and tried a number of fixes. Recreated profile...removed and
readded outlook address book, Re-installed Outlook etc...nada
I am running Outlook 2003 in an Exchange environment. If I click on my
contacts folder and add a new contact...it saves fine. When I click the
address book option, select contacts and try to find the new entry...it is
not there. If I go back and click the contacts folder it is in there. On a

Outlook 2003 and Sharepoint
I am working on a large multicenter project with three other people in a
large academic setting. We have Outlook and Access 2003 on our computers. In
addition, we have a Sharepoint website that is hosted by a third party. We
have a large list of contacts that are devided into various committees and
subgroups, and we are running into challenges maintaining the contact lists
for communication. I have a couple of questions...
At this point, we do not know of a way to link the contact information in
our Access database with our Outlook contacts and distribution lists. Is that
possible?
We have tried creating Outlook distribution lists on the global directory
with limited permissions as a means for members of our group to have access
to the lists for communications, but this requires negotiating with our IT
group to update the list. As our contact list is dynamic and there are
frequent changes, this has proven ineffective. Is there a way to share
contacts that allows others to send mail to shared distribution lists? We
have been successful in sending mail to shared contacts, but the distribution
lists will not work.
Is it possible to maintain the contact list on Sharepoint in a way that
would maintain the distribution lists?
If not, do you have any suggestions on how we could integrate these 3
Microsoft products in a way that we are not having to update and maintain 3
separate lists of contact information?

Contact filtering
Does anyone know if there is a way to create a contact view in Outlook 2007
that is filtered by the first letter of either the last name field or the
file as field. I used to use tabview organizer, and their tech support and I
worked out SQL code (for the SQL tab) that allowed for this in their product,
but they have not been able to get it to work properly with Outlook 2007, so
I have lost the functionality since I upgraded.
I have 34000 contacts in Outlook, and it would be great to be able to only
look at a smaller list (by letter), rather than having to scroll through all
34000 contacts every time I need to find someone.
Also, (and this is probably for the 3rd party addons discussion group, but
someone might know) does anyone know of an addon similiar to 2007, that
allows for multiple views to be overlapped (Tabview allowed me to create a
view, i.e. "clients", using the built in view creator, and, then further
filter the list by each letter of the last name, thus I could switch between
clients and colleagues (2 different views), and then narrow the results
(using a seperate view selector) to all people who's last name begins with
each letter, thus I could very quickly sort through and find a contact within

Contacts properties - greyed out
I'm using Outlook 2003 Basic Edition on many computers in company. We have
one additional .pst file with fresh contacts - It's copied on every PC with
simple script during startup. This .pst file is connected to Outlook on each
computer. It worked fine but one day "properties" option of addres book
changed to gray and I cannot select it. It's strange that I still can view
these contacts and get new if file on server is updated. Another problem is
that this address book was shown as an e-mail address book but stopped when I
"properties" option gone grey. As you know to Mark your contact folder for
