    - Recovering Deleted Contacts from Full PC backup All contacts are gone (erroneous syncing error with ActiveSync). I do have a complete PC backup/image, but I don't know which file(s) to restore or where they might be found.     - Outlook 2007 - search SELECT NAMES or SEARCH ADDRESS BOOK RE: Outlook 2007 â?? Searching for an e-mail address is difficult because when I select "to","cc", or "bcc" the popup menu labeled "Select Names" only has 3 fields displayed: "Name", "Display Name", and "E-mail address". Additionally, when the "Search Address books" is selected, the same 3 fields are displayed. However, in the MS help menu for the Outlook 2007 Address book has a topic called "FIND NAMES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK ". The screen shot of the search window show that I'm supposed to be able to view other fields such as Title, Business Phone, Location, Company, etc. NOTE: as indicated above, I have only 3 fields listed Additionally a screen shot indicates OTHER lists should be available such as "Global Address List", an All Addresses List (All Contacts, All Groups, etc). Note: the drop down field does not show that I have any of the above lists. Things you should know before answering: 1. My â??Outlook Address Bookâ?? is listed under the menu Tools, Account Settings, Address book tab appears on the drop down list. However, when selected, there arenâ??t any names. However, when I select the name â??Contactsâ??, I can view the names listed under my â??Contactsâ??. 2. Referring to MS Help and Support Article ID 287563 named "Contact information does not appear in the address book in Outlook" LINK: << http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;287563&Product=ol2002 >> . Under â??Step 2: Mark your contact folder for use with your address bookâ??, the following is stated: "On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Properties for your folder name (mine is called â??Personal Foldersâ??) On the Outlook Address Book tab, click to select the Show this folder as an e-mail address book check box, type a descriptive name, and then click OK." NOTE: I do not have a tab or a folder named "Outlook Address Book" on the folder tree. 3. The MS Help topic "FIND NAMES IN THE ADDRESS BOOK" indicates there should be more than one address list, such as a "Global Address List", an All Addresses List (All Contacts, All Groups, etc).     - Unable to add to local contacts from global address I saw the same error. In my case, the solution was to open the Address Book, select "Tools > Options...", and then to remove the Global Address List from the listbox with the description: "When sending mail, check names using these address lists in the following order:" I think copy operation was failing because the Address Book was attempting to copy the contact from Global Address List back into Global Address List.     - Show all messages from a contact Hows does one show all emails received from and/or sent to a particular contact? I understand how to show all from a particular email address (open an email -> related -> messages from sender), but some of of my contacts use multiple email addresses and it is annoying to add them in manually each time I do a search. I have their email addresses saved in their contact information, so is there a way to easily show all messages from that particular contact? While we're at it: is there a way to add more than 3 email addresses to a contact? Some of the people I correspond with overseas use up to 8 addresses (crazy foreigners). Thanks! Now, when I enter new contacts, it places them after the imported contacts.     - copy information into multiple fields in contacts I am using Outlook 2003 w/SP3. I have created an Act. Mgr. field in my contacts list and want to add a act mgr name to groups of contacts by state, i.e. (050=Mary Smith).     - How do I set up contacts so that overseas calls have a 011 prefix? Everything in contacts with country codes and city codes works fine, but the only thing I cannot figure out how to do is show that any call that is not to the USA or Canada requires the prefix "+011" instead of the usual "+1". For instance, if I select "Chile" as the country, it selects the proper country code and prompts me for the city code, but there is no way to select 011 as the necessary code to start an overseas call.     - Reconstructing Deleted Distribution List Somehow a Distribution List with over 200 emails addresses was deleted from my contact list. They are all contained in a bcc copy of my weekly newsletter that was sent out Monday. I have tried to "select all" and "copy" the email addresses from the sent email, then create a new Distribution List, then paste in the names/email addresses of the recipients.     - Business Card Name Order Outlook 2007 I have recently upgraded to Outlook 2007 and in the process moved all of my contacts from a pst file back into the contact list that lives in with my exchange mail box, during this process the way names are being displayed on business cards has changed and I cannot get it back to the way I would like.... At this point all of the settings I can find are set to first name last name, both the full name and file as options, the problem is that on the business card view it is showing last name first name with no comma, and even though it is being filed correctly in the list alphabetically it looks out of place because the full name is now showing the actual last name first... This is confusing to look at much less try to explain, let me see if I can try to show everyone what I am seeing. If I open the contact and click on the full name button I see First: John Last: Doe then I click ok and now in the full name line and the business card view I see Doe John, if I go directly into the business card and edit it there and make it display correctly and then go back to look at the full name it will have reversed the names, I know I am probably missing a setting somewhere but its becoming an exercise in insanity at this point I seem to be checking all the same places over and over.     - Auto Complete Inconsistency Hi all, One of my clients has an SBS 2003 R2 network. All PC's have no problem, except the bosses (typical!). He has a laptop at the office (XP Pro, SP2) and uses a PC at his home (Vista, no SP) to connect to their Exchange 2003 server (PC at home uses RPC over HTTP). Both laptop and home PC have Outlook 2007 installed. For some time now, the auto complete feature is proving to be inconsistent, ie, one minute you can start typing a contact name and a list of possible entries is displayed, the next minute, typing the same name or anything else doesn't offer any contact suggestions at all.     - Pocket PC outllok and Visa Office 2007 Synch Issue Hi all: I have an ipac 5500 w/ Pocket PC 4.x and Pocket Outllook. I have a new LT w/ Vista Home Prem and Office 2007. I can't seem to get my device to synch. The only option is browse for files. I go to the synch center and my device is not listed, so that means it is incompatible, so how do I make this work?     - Remove Contacts Folder I am using Outlook 2003 and when I try to retrieve an email address from my contacts I get an error message which says; The address list could not be displayed. The contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions.     - Outlook Contacts I recently upgraded from Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2002. It used to be that when I composed a new message, I could type in the name in the TO field, and it would check my contact list and fill in the email address, or I could click on the down arrow next to the TO field and it would give me a list of everyone in my contacts list. Now when I compose a new message, it gives me a squiggly red line because it wants me to select between two duplicate names (one is a fax address and one is an email address).     - Destination folders do not show when importing to Contacts I'm using Outlook 2003. When I try to import an Excel sheet to a contacts folder, the folder does not show. In fact, none of my contacts folders show, just email pst folders. I know I've done this before but can't for the life of me figure out what I'm doing wrong this time.     - Outlook 2003 Check Names-Is it possible to skip/clear missing emai I often send to a broadcast list that changes frequently so I am constantly being asked to 'Check Names'. In each case, when I cancel, I am required to locate, in a very small box with many names, the one name I am having a problem with, remove it and then restart the check names. Since I often I have 20-30 invalid addresses, I have to repeat this process of stopping and restarting many times. I'd like to be able to have Outlook simply skip/delete the incorrect entries. However, if I try to print an e-mail to store a contact, I get an error: "cannot find WAB.DLL." I looked on the web and this seems to be a common Vista problem.     - Missing Contacts Folder in Outlook 2003 SP-3 I was/am setting up my Outlook on my new (Vista) machine. I was going through removing all duplicate contacts, and placing tem in a separate folder - Duplicate Contacts. In the meantime I was setting up some o my views. In doing so, I mistakenly selected names from the Duplicates folder to place in the "To" field as part of the view definition. Then, I believe that I deleted the Duplicates folder. Now, when I go to these views, I get an error because the name designated in the "To" field exists no more, since the folder itself is (apparently) gone. But I canot seem to get rid of the link between the view and the Duplicates folder and correctly tie it to the name in the Contacts folder. Is there a way to fix this? Periodically many of my contacts ask that I not send mail because they will be out of town. a csv. file. I don't know if that had anything to do with it, but the next
day, my Outlook contact file arbitrarily had shrunk from 144 contacts & notes
to 32.

I'm a novice, but use Microsoft Office Outlook for keeping track of all my
prospects. Please tell me how to retrieve the lost contacts. (How can I keep
it from happening again?)

It is very difficult to imagine that exporting Contacts correctly would lose
data, but then we have no idea what you actually did.
Do you make backups of your data? Changes made by exporting or
synchronization are permanent, unless you can find your missing data in the
Deleted Items Folder.
