Hello,

I just finished reading the Step-by-Step Guide to Implementing Domain
Rename publication from Microsoft. Wouldn't it be easier to just
remove the hosts from the domain, demote the domain controllers,
rename the DCs, and re-promote them?

Thanks!

Are you talking about domain rename or domain controller rename? Because
this list will be a total new install of a domain not a rename of the existing
one and keep all settings/configuration.

You betcha it is easier.
If you can sacrifice all of your domain data, that's certainly is the way to
go. You don't even need to rename your DCs.

Do you like doing desktop visits and working with users' Windows profile
issues? I don't!

That said, I think domain renames are rarely worth it - seems most people
want them because of a company name change, etc. It's cosmetic and only the
internal users see it, so not really worth the effort - and you should
really just forget about it if you run Exchange.

Sorry about the confusion, it was early in the morning local time when
I posted. I should not have posted about renaming the DCs; that is
not something which needs to be done. Regarding the original post, I
was talking about domain rename with rendom.exe
