Hi,
I did a DCpromo today on an old box that is being removed.

In sites and services I can still see the server there (but obviously no
replication partners). The dcpromo demotion was sucessful.
Does it just take a while before it removes the object from sites and
services?

Thanks,

Hi
That's by design. The server must be manually removed from ADSS, make sure
that the server doesn't have NTDSSettings, if not it's safe to remove it.

Hello David,

If the machine is demoted, just delete it by hand.

Thanks both.
I'll go in to sites and services and remov it then manually.

That's pretty much what I am asking too...not sure why I got a lecture
about ADS when my question was just as simple.

Meinolf,

I'm getting ready to do my demotion today. You were very helpful in laying
out the procedure I need to follow. One thing you did not mention was the
manual removal of the DC after a successful demotion. I assume after
demoting a server to a member server, that the server would gracefully remove
from the ADSS. I guess this may not be the case, and I will need to manually
remove it from ADSS?

Hi
-By design AD doesn't delete the servers in Active Directory Sites and
Services.
-They must be deleted manually.
-Before doing that make sure that no DC to be deleted has NTDSSettings
object under the server object.
