I have Win2k3 Ent. Edition with SP1 running as Domain Controller holding all
five roles.I have other member server with Win2k3 Standard SP2 running SQL
Server 2005 with CRM server.I want to make this machine ADC of root domain
controller alongwith making it a global catalogue server.
suppose after making this changes successfully, will my exchange server 2003
running on separate machine able to function correctly in case my root domain
controller cease to function correctly.
Furthermore, making a server ADC running SQL Server 2005 and CRM is
recommended or not since i have only this machine to make it ADC? THis
machine is located within same LAN not across another SITE.
regards

-Do you want to remove the existing DC, or just add anew one and keep both?
-Avoid using multiple services (SQL,CRM, etc..) in the server that is also a
DC. No good for performance, not good for security.
-There's no such thing as Root Domain Controller or PDCs in AD. I think that
you mean Root Domain of your Forest (Different things).

-"Not Root Domain Controller". And Yes, the exchange needs at least 1 DC and
a GC (With DNS...) available, if you've that server with those roles, then
the Exchange will work.

-Is possible, but im my opinion, not recommended, I already explain why.

Good luck

Adding an additional dc to your domain is a good thing, since it is Exchange
you will also want to make sure that the DC is a GC. Exchange relies on a
GC to function. Adding an additional DC/GC to the domain should have
nothing but a positive impact on your Exchange Organization.

I would highly discourage you from making your DC a sql server or any other
provisioning machine. From a security standpoint this is a bad thing, plus
adding services such as this can begin to pollute one another when it comes
to upgrades, patches, etc...

Hello S H A R I Q U E,

Additional DC's will give you redundancy in case of failures. Applications
like exchange and SQL better run on member servers. They can slow down the
performance of the DC and also be a security risk for them. DC's should only
run the main task as DNS/GC and maybe DHCP. Exchange needs DNS and also a
Global catalog for working correctly, so make sure they are allways available.

Best regards
