Cannot install iSCSI Initiator
I have a fresh installation of Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition R2, 64
bit that I have set up. The server configuration is an Intel Xeon processor
(processor model 7030, 2.8 GHz) with 2GB RAM.
I am trying to install the iSCSI Initiator build 1895, but I keep getting
this error:
Initiator-2.02-QFE-bld1895-ia64fre.exe - Machine Type Mismatch
---------------------------
The image file c:\5bf80b39386613ece43b5e78\update\update.exe is valid, but
is for a machine type other than the current machine.
Does this version not support the chipset the OS version and chipset that I
have, or am I using the wrong installation program? Out of desparation I've
tried with all of the other iSCSI installations but they all give the same
sort of error.
Any ideas?

...file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\System32\ntoskrnl.e
I'm getting this error at boot.
Environment: RAID 0+1, WinXP Pro 64bit, 1G Dual Channel DDR2, 4 160G Maxtor
SATA, Intel 3.0 HP 64bit processor, Intel 945gtp MB, Samsung 970 Digi LCD
(this matters).
Crash resulted from my attempting to get a pci-express ATI all in wonder Vid
card installed. Card was not compatible with OS. I removed it and went back
to the on-board Intel Video.
When I went to install the software to that controls the Samsung LCD and
launched it, my system immediately shut down.
On restart...the error.
2 Questions:
1. Please suggest how to repair this file and boot.
2. How do I access my data? I pulled one drive and attempted to access it
from another RAID 64bit system and I shows 240+Gigs and I cannot access the
data. It is only a 160G drive?
I think I'm going to give up on the 64bit. Video cards, printers, Acrobat,
so many things not compatible. It was an interesting ride but now I'm
concerned about the data.
Thank you in advance and happy helping!

HELP! confused about Windows XP x64 and live in China
I was given a beautiful new computer all in English.
Then I tired to downlaod my pictures from my digital camera, and it
wouldn't work. Had no idea why. Then I fiddled around and it finally
worked.
Then I bought a webcam and a HP All in One 1408.
I found out that I had a x64 Operating System and had to downlaod
something from the HP website. I finally got my printer working, but I
don't have all the nice stuff that is found on the disc as it is not
compatable with my comptuer. Things such as ink levels would be nice
to know.
My webcam is a Chinese model and I can not seem to find a program that
would make it work. Does anybody have any suggestions? I was assured
in the store that it would work on the x64 system. Tag: PCI tree Tag: 37454

Confused with the WinXP Prof x64 edition CD
Hi, I am new to the newsgroup and have a question regarding the WinXP
Professional x64 Edition. I recently received the WinXP Prof. x64 Edition CD
and I am confused. After receiving the CD, it says that it expires after 180
days and if I elect not to upgrade to the x64 edition, I would have to
reinstall the original operating system (32 bit WinXP Professional) which is
fine, but it doesn't tell me what happens after the 180 day expiration if I
want to keep it. Will it automatically ask you to re-register the product
and that becomes your WinXP x64 edition or will I have to go and buy it
--which I thought I read somewhere that you can't buy the x64 edition. Your
help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Tag: PCI tree Tag: 37445
Acessing 64 bit registry view from 32 bit application running on Windows 2003 SP1
Hi,
To access 64 bit registry view from 32 bit application on Windows 2003 SP1,
Microsoft has introduced KEY_WOW64_64KEY.
Example:
::RegOpenKeyEx( regkeyRemoteComputer.m_hkey, strSubKey, 0, KEY_WOW64_64KEY |
KEY_QUERY_VALUE, ®Subkey.m_hkey );
I would like to confirm if KEY_WOW64_64KEY flag can create any problems
dealing with 32 bit registry views.
My Observation is:
While testing the remote registrty access code containing the function
metioned above, I've realized that KEY_WOW64_64KEY flag does not create any
problem accessing 32 bit registry and 64 bit registry view from 32
application runinng on OS other than Windows 2003 SP1. I mean, I could read
few 32 bit registry keys inspite of using this flag and that too on Windows
XP SP1 box.
I think KEY_WOW64_64KEY is bit mask, it will be used only if 64 bit OS
registry is accessed. For other OS (32 bit), it would not give any error and
work as expected. Please correct me if I am wrong.
My goal is to see if I can write registry access code with out checking
remote computer machine and OS version(32 bit\ 64 bit). I am worried if
there are any situations (like accessing security related things) where
KEY_WOW64_64KEY can behave wrong for 32 bit registry view.
Please lets us know.

Icons lost on settings tranfer
Hi all,
I just installed x64 on a new system, then transferred files and settings
from a previous instance on another machine using the files and settings
transfer wizard. Most of my stuff came through ok, but I lost some windows
icons somehow, most notably my Recycle Bin and My Documents Icons. Has anyone
seen this before? Is there any fix? In XP Pro I would've just repaired them
with TweakUI, but obviously that's not an option.
FYI- I tried doing an "Upgrade" install over the broken one, and when that
didn't work, I also tried a "repair installation" from the Setup screen- all
to no avail.
Thanks for all input! Tag: PCI tree Tag: 37422
Restoring a Back-Up?
I am about to re-install x64 from scratch, (no, Repair Install didn't help
me) I've zapped the Partition and I am set to go. I have a fresh back-up of
all the essentials performed by Nero. Now, recalling all the really good
advice and the general tips'n tricks that flow through this forum, I have in
mind to re-install to a small system partition (probably some 4GB's). The
Back-up totals 13+ GB, so I will have to re-direct the greater part to a
separate partition.
Now, several people have made this wise proposal to put 'My Documents' and
other stuff on such a partition, but I am falling into doubts about how that
will reflect on the restoration process? The 'Program Files' directory is
not trivial in size, can I move that as well? I havn't tried restoring in
this way before, suddenly it sounds quite intimidating.
A few pointers, to not ignore something really important, would be
appreciated.

5.3 Ghz dual core pentium machine on eBay!
I happened to be surfing around on eBay UK and caught this 64bit gem:

Now the reasoning supplied in the listing is that since it is a dual core
processor and each core runs at 2.66 Ghz, "2 Cores x 2.66 Ghz each," the
system is running at 5.3 Ghz. Honest. Scroll down to the Specs and check

XP x64 - XP Pro Upgrade
I just bought a new computer which came preinstalled with Windows XP
Home Edition. I tried to upgrade to Windows XP Professional, but got
the following error:
"setup cannot continue because the version of windows on your computer
is newer than the version on the cd."
I did some research and found out that it was because the version
currently installed is 64 bit and Windows XP Pro is 32 bit. My first
question is whether I can upgrade to Windows XP Pro using the upgrade
CD and the second question is what are the implications of moving to a
32 bit operating system and the implications on the drivers that came
preinstalled with the computer.

Perhaps you'd better sit down now!
Hi, all.
I just recieved some shocking news - well, let's call it a rumour, at this
stage. Word is out that none of the current line of graphics cards will be
upgradeable to accomodate DX10 - such that they will all in fact be
worthless the day DX10 ships.
Is there any bit of truth in that? Any way to find out?
I sure hope that this is yet another misinterpretation of the term
'backwards compatibility', which could mean that DX10 being installed it
would still be running an upgraded form of DX9 and not taking advantage of
the upgraded DX10 specifics.
What ya' all say?

1.1 Framework...
Hello:
I have an implementation of Windows 2003 Standard (64-bit) running on AMD
processors. This server is going to run an application called Archive
Manager. The vendor says it has to run on 1.1 Framework (32-bit). At the
beginning of my implementation they told me (64-bit) was fine so I spec'ed a
high end system. When I went to install the application I got a few
warnings. They then changed there tune and said if it runs on a (64-bit)
system it was not supported. Are VP's are trying to talk to there VP's but
they are moving slow. I tend to think it will work and they are just
feeding me a canned response. I have googled this and found a number of
articles regarding 1.1 Framework on (64 bit) systems.
Does anyone have any advice or experience on this? Thanks.
