Outlook Express has never had spell-checking capabilities of its
own. Instead, it relies upon the presence of other Microsoft
applications, such as the Office Suite, Word, or the Works _Suite_
(which includes Word, not the regular Works). However, since those
applications are available only in *32-bit* versions, they can't very
well be expected to support the 64-bit Outlook Express.

From the Outlook Express built-in help:
"Outlook Express uses the spelling checker provided with the following
Microsoft Office programs: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft
PowerPoint. If you do not have one of these programs installed, the Spelling
command is not available."

Which means, you would need a 64 bit Office to make spell check possible in
OE 64 bit. Office 12 will have a native 64 bit edition, so that is something
to look forward to.

But does Outlook Express on x64 utilize its spell checker? Unless you are
using Office Outlook 2003.
