    - Saitek Gamer's Keyboard Where can I get a working driver/software for the Saitek Gamer's Keyboard? I downloaded the one off of Saitek's site for 64-bit (released today) and the 3rd step in the intallation says "Plug in the devices you wish to update the drivers of", but both my keyboard and sidepad (what I need the drivers for) are already plugged in.     - Trial activation - key used too many times? I'm trying to activate my trial copy, and it tells me I've exceeded the activation limit for my key. Since it's a trial key, shouldn't I be the only one activating from it? The trial was downloaded from the link in the email from MS, and the key was contained in that email (in other words, I'm not just using some random stranger's key; I went through the trial download process).     - Geforce 2 Ti and XP64 I have a 64 Meg Geforce 2 Ti and I am having issues. I know it is a rather old card, but for some reason I can't get XP 64 to detect my card. I have dual boot between XP 64 and 32. XP 32 will detect the video card and install the Microsoft drivers without any issue. Is this a vide card that XP 64 does not support? I know I may have to buy a new card to make it work but, I don't want to purchase another card that may or may not work in XP64. Is there an HCL for XP64? All I can find is one for XP in general.     - READ THIS: acpitabl.dat issues? Before you go off and format your box again, ask yourself this -- Have you waited long enough? Upon building a new XP x64 rig (Asus A8N SLI, 4000+, etc.), I ran into this same aciptabl.dat hanging issues... but it wasn't hung! I waited about 5-10 minutes and it finally booted. It seems this is a one-time configuration/bug. Subsequent reboots take less than 30 seconds. Just food for thought.     - XP 64-bit Where's the problem?? I've read a fair deal in here of late about XP 64 bit. Regarding drivers, everything bar my scanner installed perfectly. I have a cd on order with HP for the scanner. I'll wait to see if it cures the problem. I have several software applications, all installed without problem including Office 2000, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash MX, Microsoft Flight Simulator, JASC Paint Shop Pro 8, they all run fine. IE caused a problem running Flash, until I realised using the 32 bit version shipped with XP 64+ worked fine. The only problem I have is IIS not accessing Access 2000 databases on the local pc, but the bottom line is it's not a perfect world and development does take some time. Hopefully, sometime, a guru in here can assist me to solve the IIS problem. All said and done Microsoft do an excellent job with software development, as do many other development companies. I do wish they could provide a little more support given they no longer provide manuals and there's little information in technets or the knowledge base regarding XP 64+. $300AUD is quite a gamble whether the problem is mine or there's..... gmcallis Tag: New site for my personal blog Tag: 4117

    - Tool Tips disappearing under task bar Searching the web, I know this has been a reoccurring problem with all versions of XP, but this problem where the tool tips for the stuff in the taskbar hiding beneath the taskbar so as to be not usable seems to be happening with regularity on my x64 installation. A log off and back on will fix the problem, but I sure would like to know what is causing this. Particularly troubling is the lost tool tip for the clock that also displays the date.     - Not ready for prime time Since this is a gap system, Microsoft has assigned NOTHING to differentiate it from XP. Therefore programs designated XP, may or may not install on this system. Most of the programs I have tried to install which aren't compatible say to contact the program supplier and stop. Last night I tried to install a program for XP. It got to the point of 'installing drivers' and it froze. It was using the Windows InstallShield. The only way to stop it was to use task manager. Figured I would do the same as XP32 and do a system restore, and delete its files from the Programs file. So far so good. There was a restore point set before the install. I selected it and everything seemed fine, but when the system rebooted it stopped with the desktop and no icons. I gave it an hour to finish the restore and load the desktop, but nothing. I then turned off the computer as no shutdown was available. No task bar and cntl/alt.delete didn't do anything. The next time it loaded to the desktop with icons and taskbar. However the taskbar has no field for running programs. Just the start, quickstart (when enabled) notification area and clock (when enabled). The network connections also disappeared and one installed program I tried to run never finished loading and another said the media player was not installed, while the windows media player would say insufficient memory when only 179k out of 2 gig was being used. Tried system restore, but it said it was not available to protect the computer, to restart and run System Restore, but after 4 restarts with the same problems, it is obvious that this won't work either. At this point, it seems the only alternative I have is to wipe the partition and reinstall x64 and then again those programs that will install. Thankfully I kept my x32 license and only wasted $140 on a system that virtually no programs will be written for (since they will be coding for Longhorn) and Microsoft's own staff probably been shifted also leaving another WindowsME situation. (all you have to do is listen to any computer show on radio and you can hear what a disaster that was, though I personally had no problems with it). Since I have a life other than playing with an experimental system, I don't know when I will have the time to reload everything. Also it would be helpful to know what designation to look for in a program.     - XP 64 and disappearing icons This problem just started to happen. I have 64 running good except now when I shut down and the desktop is fine. Sometimes when I reboot the icons on the desktop and in the quick launch bar have disappeared and I have to redo the whole desktop and Quick Launch. Then I am allset till the next time.     - x64 Edition Not Booting I have downloaded the x64 trial edition of Windows XP Pro. When loading from boot to install it, it does to the installation screen and loads everything. Then when it says that it's starting Windows, it stops working and hangs-up. The HDD LED stops flashing and it just completely freezes.     - Java Runtime Installation Error on XP 64 bit Hi, I am attempting to install the Java Runtime file on my Windows XP 64 system. I've attempted both the JRE 32 bit - jre-1_5_0_02-windows-i586-p, and the 64 bit - jre-1_5_0-rc-windows-amd64, by the manual downloads, either file i get an error after i choose either Custom or Express install. (one of those with the "send error report" options) DPE is not active, when it is, it pauses the installation on the Custom or Express choice.     - dvd/cd combo drive... i'm having trouble getting xp64 to "see" burned dvds. my system is a presario r3240us with amd athlon64 and xp64 os, with a combo cd-r/rw dvd+r/rw drive (model hl-dt-st gca-4040n, apparently made by lg). i've used several software apps to burn the data, with the latest run on vso's copytodvd. each app shows progress and a completed task, but nothing shows in win explorer at the end except a "blank cd". checking on another machine running 32-bit xp pro, the data have been successfully burned to the dvd and show up appropriately.the same pattern occurs despite using different discs (all rated for the appropriate burn speed) made by different companies. finally, movie-encoded dvds do play properly, whether triggered by autoplay or manually started. and burned cds show up just fine. any thoughts on why the machine isn't reading the dvd appropriately? thanks, kevin Tag: New site for my personal blog Tag: 3970

    - 2 copies of internet explorer???!!! when i upgraded to XP x64 edition i noticed to my disgust that there are 2 versions of ie. a 32 bit and a 64 bit one. If i'd wanted a 32 bit copy i'd have stuck with XP x86!     - x64 Drivers for Promise RAID PDC20319 Have just installed the trial version of XP x64. All went pretty well. Only have problems with my RAID controller for my Promise RAID PDC20319 and the AC97 Audio codecs that come with the Intel 6300ESB southbridge chip and an old IEEE1394 capture card. Well done Microsoft!! My system has an ASUS NCCH-DL server mainboard with 2x Xeon 3.2GHz processors, 2x512Mb Corsair DIMMS, 2x250Gb SATA WD HDDs (RAIDed), 1x 17Gb Seagate SCSI HDD (on a 19160 Adaptec SCSI adaptor), 1x80Gb IDE Seagate boot drive with a Gigabyte Radeon 9550 Graphics Card. I have trawled through the Intel, Asus websites & many forums for drivers to get the Promise RAID chip and AC'97 audio working. Has anyone had any success with these two items?     - Active X When on-line, I get prompted to install Active X several times (depending on the site). I click and select install now and 1 of 2 things happens.     - I've been wondering (Re: Orders) I've just been thinking... If the orders opened up on the 25th of april... wouldn't you think that at least *some* copies had been produced for this 25th date? Did *anyone* receive their Trade-In copies? If so, then that clears everything up, they made a few, and ran out in the first day, right?     - Reverting to windows 32 bit xp Just though I would drop by one last time and say thank you for the help and goodbye :) I am going back for two reasons. one, I don't think there will be 64bit drivers available for things like printers, scanners, webcams, ipods for a good long time if ever, companys put there development money where the market is and x64 will be a hobby os for sometime to come and. I am not going to run a system that has problems installing games :) and I know there are ways to trick the games into installing.
