Team Foundation Server on Windows Server x64 Edition
Hello.
I'm trying to install Team Foundation Server Beta 2 on Windows Server 2003
x64 Edition Enterprise (with all current updates - we are using SUS).
Attept #1
1. Installing .Net Framework 1.1 (Before installing it says that I
should turn on "Enable32bitAppOnWin64",
using script:
cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1
- I did it.
2. Installing .Net Framework 1.1 SP (NDP1.1sp1-KB867460-X86.exe )
3. Installing SQL Server 2005 (32 bit) Developer CTP April 2005
(first it installing .net framework 2.0 beta 2 x64!)
4. After all i can't access to IIS - neigher to http://localhost/Reports
no http://localhost - it says - Service Unavailable
Attept #2: (reinstall windows server with format hdd)
1. Installing SQL Server 2005 x64 Developer CTP June 2005
it installs .net 2.0 x64
2. http://localhost and http://localhost/Reports working fine
3. But to install Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) which is the
reqirement of the installation TFS i need to install .net framework 1.1,
because WSS don't want to work with 2.0.
4. After installation .net framework 1.1 and the situation is the same
as after attept #1
Questions:
1. Is it possible to install TFS on Windows Server 2003 x64 with SQL 2005
(any version) installed?
2. Is it possible to install WSS on WS 2003 x64 with .netframework 2.0 with
(without) .netframework 1.1?
3. Is it possible to have .net web applications in 1.1 (32bit) and 2.0
(64bit) together on the one machine?
Great thank for everyone who will be able to help,

NTFS compress VS folder compress in x64
Clear Dayhi all, got a little confuse here that from microsoft declaration.
compress folder hav no performance degration while ntfs compress has. I'm
wondering which is a better way for me to save disk space yet using it as
ordinary folders and drives. From all your experts out there which do you
think functions better? and also i found that microsoft mentioned that
folder compress is not available in x64.. so does that means the folder
compress in the x64 i'm using is not valid?
Thanks in advance.

ODBC
I am using a trial version of Win 64 bits with great pleasure and
satisfaction. The only stumbling block is that I cannot create an ODBC for
Access and SQL.
1. It's there but does not open like Win XP 32 bits. It only offers SQL
Server.
2. As for SQL Server 2000 SP4 does not recongnize Aliases created in the
Client Manager. Thus, I am unable to create a server in SQL 2000. Is there a
way around or will a SP5 correct this?

setup.exe does nothing until restart
Hi all,
I am trying to install an app by running setup.exe but nothing appears when
I do so.
I can see the process exists in task manager but nothing appears.
When I go to restart my XP x64 box, the setup dialogue appears briefly
before the system restarts.
So, I am guessing that setup.exe is blocked on something being released
before it can run (which is released just before the restart).
I have tried disabling my anti-virus (avast) and rebooting to no effect.
Have also tried ending every process I think I can get away with before
trying setup.exe with no success.
Can anyone shed any light on what it is waiting on or what I can do?
Many thanks for your time,

Will external DVD drives boot?
Hi, all!
To my horror and amazement, I just found out that my fairly new HP zv5000
Notebook is equiped with a CD/DVD burning combo (the flimsy one) that wount
boot a DVD. Rather than sending it back and having it upgraded - which will
be both expensive and time consuming - I thought I'd invest in a external

seem to have missed some essential wisdom - will such a critter boot? And
will it boot Win64?

NVIDIA Forceware 77.79 for Windows x64
It is a quiet day so I thought I would share some drivers with you all
well not all of your. You 32bit folks are out of luck - but then you d
have a 78.xx release to play with after all, although those are olde
than the last official release.
These drivers were built on the 2nd August, which makes them the newes
set currently available. I have been using the drivers for a couple o
days before 77.77 was released (upgrading from 77.72) and haven'
really noticed too many differences, but then I didn't really have an
issues with the older set. The drivers are not WHQL signed so onl
those that are not afraid of pop-up boxes should use them.

GPT documentation still incorrect
Hi,
I've mentioned this also a few times, and i hope that it will be adressed
this time...
The following links on
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/64bit/default.mspx still have
incomplete infomation about GPT.
These 2 docs, only refer to IA GPT, while x86 and x64 now also supports it.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/GPT_FAQ.mspx
Those 2 docs should be UPDATED accordingly...

Question for Charlie Russell
Charlie, how does XP Pro SP2 see 4GB of ram on System Properties/General tab
versus XP Pro x64?
I am beta testing Vista x86 and x64 on my XP Pro x64 box. Vista x86 is only
reporting 3GB of ram on the System Properties/General tab while the x64

I have never run XP 32-bit on a box with 4GB of ram so I don't know if this
