    - BFG 7800 GTX graphics problems. Please help!!!! I've got a BFG 7800 GTX I'm tyring to get working but none of the drivers I have installed seem to work properly; I've tried nVidia's and BFG's websites and several different versions of the supposed x64 compatible driver but no luck. All games have black glitches flashing up on the screen here and there; sparks and flashes, especially AOEIII, and Black & White 2 crashed during the intro movie.     - OpenAL and x64 I've just installed quake 4 which runs fine except for the sound, it does work but sounds distorted and crappy. The game reports that my sound card doesnt support openAL and I cant enable EAX. Ive got realtek onboard sound (abit av8 3rd eye) and under xp32 all was good with it.     - Software Speed Inconsistancies with Windows Professional XP x64 I have been having lots of weird software problems with my 32-bit programs. Most noteably are the games where the software will run normally for 5-10 seconds and then speed up as if the game is running twice as fast as it normally should, it will do this for 5-10 seconds and then go back to normal and repeat. The videogames I have noticed this on so far are -Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas -Star Wars: Jedi Knight II -Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I also notice the same problem in flash apps that run in my Firefox browser. The animation will speed up and slow down. Obviously I haven't had extensive testing with where this orginating from or why it is doing this but believe me I have made sure that there aren't any other programs running while I use these programs (unless there is something running that I am not seeing). The funny thing is sometimes the software will run just fine and then I will hit a loading transition in a game it will go out of whack; restarting my computer fixes the problem usually. The system I am running this on was purchased in June of this year with 1 gig of RAM, an AMD 64bit Dual Core Processor +4600, and a new ATI graphics card.     - x64 detection I had been using the existence of the registry key: HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node to determine if a remote system is an x64 os. It seems a couple of applications now create that key if it does not exist on non-x64 systems (at least Emulex and Broadcom software has done so). I am looking for a more accurate way (non-WMI) to do this. I have noticed a registry key existed on a x64 system: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\RESOURCEMAP\Hardware Abstraction Layer\ACPI x64 platform On a non-x64 system I have: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\RESOURCEMAP\Hardware Abstraction Layer\ACPI 1.0 - APIC platform MP These are only two cases and I don't know how many others exist. Would it be safe to assume that if the wow6432Node exists AND the key under Hardware Abstraction Layer has "x64" in its name that I could be confident in assuming the machine is an x64 system? If not, is there a (non-WMI) way that I should use to identify a remote machine as x64.     - Pocket PC active sync issue Anyone have a pocket PC that they use with their 64? I have been having issues with active sync 3.8. I can sync, but can't use the explore option. Making it hard to access files on my CF and SD cards. If anyone has found a fix for this, I'd appreciate it. My pocket pc is a Dell AXIM X50v and it sync's fine on my laptop w/ XP Home.     - Changing Ports for Remote Desktop This post is not specific to Windows XP 64 bit ... but both machines involved are running this os. Please read on. 1. At work, I have a Windows box which I am trying to acces remotely. For a complicated set of reasons, the only port I can use is 1025. 2. I know how to edit the registry to change from the standard port (3389) to another port, and I know how to use a Remote Desktop client to access a machine which has been configured to use another port. 3. BUT, Windows apparently reserves port 1025 for another process and won't allow it to be used for Remote Desktop. 4. So can anybody tell me which process uses port 1025 and whether it is possible to edit the registry twice, once to switch the second process to use another port and then again to switch Remote Desktop to port 1025.     - Office submenu appears dimmed After Office 2003 SP2 and when Outlook is running, all rest Office applications submenu appear dimmed, the right mouse menu also. I have to close Outlook to reappear the menus. I tried detect and repair, nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled Office, the problem insists. I use the latest nvidia video driver, I uninstalled it, no solution. I changed the video resolution, I disabled the visual effects, nothing, no solution. :( All menu of Outlook work perfect, the problem appears on all other Office applications and some times in Internet Explorer 32-bit, but never in 64-bit.     - x64 Installation BSOD Thank you in advance for your help. When I attempt to install x64 I get past the part where it loads the drivers and I think it says Windows Setup at the bottom bar. Right after that the screen goes blank and then the blue screen comes up with the STOP: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED error. I am running an Athlon 64 X2, on an n-force4 mobo with an nvidia 7800 video card. I have a single 100 GB IDE HDD.     - Question about Dual Booting \ Multiple OS choices in WinXP Pro 64x Is it possible to install Windows XP Professional 64x and Windows XP Professional 32bit on the same machine (perhaps by using 2 HDs instead of one) in order to be able to select between the 2 operating Systems at Start Up like you currently can with pretty much any version of Windows ? I hope it is, I would like to be able to keep my 32-bit system for all of my older applications, get a few more drives and use Windows 64-bit for Recording Studio Applications alone such as Sonar 5 Producer Edition which supports 64x and other Audio tools that will benefit from the increased power. I am currently debating wether or not to install the trial because of this, I'm not sure if I really feel like making an Image of my current system incase I decide 64x isn't for me or for when my trial is up and I don't have money to purchase it just yet. I tried acessing my control panel etc from the start menu and I cannot acess it either. I cannot even find my product key to enter because the computer will not let me acess it. I do not think I can even uninstall since I cannot acess add/remove prgrams. I do not know what happened, honestly the only thing I did was try to install Norton ANtivirus trial edition and it said SIS error and by the time I rebooted my computer all my programs and files are missing.     - Installation HANGS I just built a computer using intels 630 emt64, giga-bytes 8n SLI Pro (nforce 4 chipset), GEIL DDRII 667mhz memory, WD Raptors (2x36GB) raid-0, and 2 chaintech 6600gt's durring the installation process i pressed F6 to load the 64bit SATA drivers, everything went extrordinarly well - from the "39 minutes remaining" till "Saving settings" took only 7 minutes..... then at "9 minutes remaining" i received a blue screen error message. the computer rebooted itself and windows install restarted... again at 9 minutes remaining i received another blue screen error yet this time it was different. This whole process went on for about 4 days of swapping hardware, testing, retesting and a lot of reconfiguring of the hardware and the bios with no success. I have tested the motherboard, ram, hard drives, power supply, and graphics cards on my girlfriends identical computer except for she has intel's 530 32bit processor; all hardware successfully operating. So i figured that the processor was the reason for the error messages, and took the processor back and exchanged it for a new one and had the tech at the store install the new processor (for liability reasons) and go through the installation process as well.... Same results - same spot in the saving settings, and he also performed the same trial and error testing that i performed. (the only way i can get this machine to work is with "32" bit xp pro and NOT the x64 version... but i did not build this machine to be "32 bit" --- it is a 64 bit processor so it should be operating xp x64, i installed the trial version and that worked "kind of". there were several times that blue screen errors happened and i figured that it was because that it was a "trial" version and may not have full support. my question is what is going on with the installation? i feel like i just waisted a lot of money on a version of windows that i cannot use. Most of my 32 bit applications run just fine. However I have two 32 bit applications that utilize an Access database that I am receiving the above listed error on. "MSJET35.DLL" - Incorrect Version. The applications both seem to install fine however when you actually try to run them is when you get the error. Anybody have any suggestions?
