Hello All,
I'm running visa 64 ultimate on my 64 bit pc. Every single time I turn my
computer on, I see the welcoming screen, windows opens...& then it freezes on
me! Not even the mouse cursor works...it is unresponsive, the only thing I
can do is to hold down the power button & turn the computer off.
turn it back on again, reload it...& we're away! it works 2nd time
(sometimes 3rd.) What's going on with my vista? An easy fix or critically
damaged? Any one experience the same problem? Know how to fix it? Help me
out someone! Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52424

Logitech Setpoint on Vista 64, install solution
I had a problem installing Logitech Setpoint 64 bit Vista version.
Whilst I had searched the Logitech site for solutions none of them
worked, I have found the cause and the solution ... this should even
apply to some other software installations on Vista.
Problem: Logitech Setpoint 4.0 for 64Bit Vista will not complete the
installation.
Cause: Admin rights not applied to the "correct" executable, due to
unzipping of files to temp dir.
Solution:
1) Run the Logitech Setpoint installer as Administrator
This will unzip the actual installation files to a temp folder within
C:\Users\UrUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\
2) Locate the real installation files (search for setup.exe within the
above folder) mine was called "pft3786.tmp" - within this folder are
the actual set up files.
3) Run the Setup.exe in this folder AS ADMINISTRATOR and the software
will install correctly.
Hope this helps anyone with similar install problems. Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52392
Downgrading to Windows XP from Windows XP 64-bit
I have Windows XP Pro 64 bit and do not like it at all! I bought several
pieces of hardware and software for audio production (M-Audio NRV10,
Pro-Tools) which are not compatible with this OS, and wish to downgrade to
the 32 bit version, or simply go right to Vista. If I do this, will I loose
all of my data, or will the computer automatically upgrade/downgrade the OS
so that all of my data is preserved?

A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within
Hi Guys,
Am an experienced system builder, and former software dev MVP.
Recently put together a machine;
E6700 Quad Core CPU
Abit AW9D-Max Motherboard
2GB of PC8500 RAM
ATI Radeon X1800 XL
etc.
I have installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. I am getting random BSODs and
reboots. I'm getting a comination of stop codes. Usually it's
'A Clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the
allocated time interval'
Sometimes it's 0x0A IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL, but usually it's 0x0101
So, for example;
0x00000101, 0x000...030, 0x000...0, 0xFF..., 0x000...03
0x00000101, 0x000...030, 0x000...0, 0xFF..., 0x000...02
or
0x0000000A, 0x000...030, 0x000...C, 0x000...01, 0xFF....
I have swapped out the memory with known good memory. I have updated the
motherboard BIOS to its latest version. I have tried both the latest graphics
drivers from ATI and the default Microsoft drivers that Vista installs. The
machine is not overheating. The built-in memory tester in windows ran the
tests without issue. The machine seems to behave itself while running in Safe
Mode.
Loading the game 'World of Warcraft' can cause it to crash very quickly -
but sometimes I can get a few minutes out of the game. Opening apparently any
other game will not cause the machine to crash.
Any thoughts?

x64 Drivers for Printers
Ok I have a good question. I recently upgraded my Servers from Windows 2003
R2 (x86) to Windows 2003 R2 (x64). Now I am having a few problems but one of
my biggest problems right now stems from my printers. I am unable to add the
printers via Print Management. This is because HP in all their wonderful
wisdom does not make a x64 bit driver disk. Don't ask me why. They only
offer it in a downloadable package. Problem is this is not a .zip file which
would make sense. It is a .exe install program. Now I have been on the
phone with HP for days and have cursed them out for not having a .zip file of
the drivers. The install package will not make it through the install
process because it is stupid and is looking for 2 things, the printer to be
hooked up via USB, which they aren't because they are network printers, and a
temp folder that self-implodes as soon as the install program makes it. So
their program is hosed and I let them know that. So my question is does
anyone know away around this to add the x64 bit drivers, without having to
use their stupid program? Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52373

yourself something else since. What is that?
Here, in Denmark the Power Service Distributors have started putting

I am about to be fed-up with the big city life and may seek out some

Cannot run x86 programs
Ok, so this is a weird one. It just sort of started happening out of
the blue. My computer gets an IP just fine, but when I attempt to
connect to the internet it won't connect. I did some troubleshooting
and found that I was also having an issue with windows media player
and my antivirus (nod32) crashing. I played around a little more and
found that the x64 versions of these programs worked just fine. I am
able to get online using the x64 version of IE, and my media player
doesn't crash when using the x64 version. Now obviously since the x86
versions are the defaults this causes some issues and most programs
don't see that they are connected to the internet (AIM, Gtalk, etc). I
consider myself fairly well versed in Vista and I have no idea what to
do with this one. Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks! Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52355

Is using 32-bit appz on x64 better than on x86?
Hi,
I went x64 because of the benefits found in one of the major programs I was
using. As it turns out, problems with plugins means I will be using the
32-bit version of this program on my x64 installation.
In fact, most everything installed on my computer is 32-bits, because of
various conflicts and problems. Am I better off switching back to XP x86, or
sticking with with x64 and continuing to use 32-bits appz on it?

Is it possible to change from 64bit to 32bit Vista?
Hi.
I've bought Vista Home Premium 64bit, and tried it on my computer. But what
I've learned is that some of the programs I need to use due to mye
educational program doesn't support 64bit Vista. So, I wondered if it was
possible to switch over to 32bit Vista without buying a brand new Vista
product, which I just recently did(64bit).

Trouble running trial version setup
Hi - this is my first post here. I am having trouble running XP Pro 64-bit
trial setup. I had downloaded the ISO from Microsoft, and burned it onto a
CD-ROM. Ran the setup from boot, and the setup program goes through its
process loading the drivers and whatnot that is needed for setup.
However, after it's done loading everything needed, the setup program
reboots my machine - I didn't get a chance to choose where I wanted to setup
the OS, or whatever. From what I can tell, the program reboots after the
message "loading Windows NT file system" or something like that - can't be
absolutely sure, as it only appears very briefly. I don't see any kind of
error message, either.
I've tried re-downloading the ISO, thinkning I had a corrupt download, but
the 2nd one I got is the exact same size as the original, so I don't think
this is the problem. I don't think I have a corrupt burn either - otherwise
setup wouldn't run in the first place, right? Nevertheless, the program I
used for that didn't give me any error, either. The hardware has been
working fine since Day 1 I got this machine 2 years ago.
I have checked with the manufacturer of my motherboard for a BIOS update I
seem to already have the latest - last updated back in May, 2006, so I don't
think it's an issue with that. I have heard some having trouble with Raid
support, but I have this disabled in my BIOS as I don't have a need for it.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to make sure I covered the common
problems first. I would really appreciate any input.
Here are my specs:
Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (this *should* support the OS)
Memory: 1 GB DDR 400
Hard Disk: I have 2 - 1 SATA 120 MB drive (Western Digital, has 32-bit XP
Pro), & 1 IDE 6 GB drive (Quantum Fireball - this is the drive I intend to
install the 64-bit trial - it's empty) Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52244

32 bi NetBIOS() caused RTC checks to complain under 64 bit Win2003
Hi
The below routine works just fine on 32 bit Windows 2000, XP and Server
2003.
But under WOW32 on a 2003 64 bit system the debug code (compiled with
runtime checks) fails claiming that
"Run-Time Check Failure #2 - Stack around the variable 'ncbO' was
corrupted."
Release version without the check seems to work ok but i want to debug. I'm
using MSVC 2003 7.1.6030 and don't currently have time to convert the code
to 64 bit.
Here is the routine which purpose is to simulate use of "NBTSTAT -a
computername" to check if a workstation is online. Netbios is after all
considerably more reliable than ping.
BOOL CheckOnline(char *p_szComputername)
{
NCB ncbO;
int i;
UCHAR uc;
char sz[50];
struct
{
ADAPTER_STATUS as;
NAME_BUFFER nb[20];
} X;
if (p_szComputername==NULL) return FALSE;
if ((i=strlen(p_szComputername))<2) return FALSE;
if (i>16) return FALSE;
memset(&ncbO, 0, sizeof(NCB));
ncbO.ncb_buffer = &X; memset(&X, 0, sizeof(X));
ncbO.ncb_length=sizeof(X);
ncbO.ncb_lana_num = iBestLANadapter();
ncbO.ncb_command = NCBRESET; Netbios(&ncbO);
ncbO.ncb_command = NCBASTAT;
memcpy(ncbO.ncb_name, "IMIPserver ", 16);
memcpy(sz, p_szComputername, i); sz[i]=0; strupr(sz);
memset(ncbO.ncb_callname, ' ', 16); memcpy(ncbO.ncb_callname, sz, i);
uc=Netbios(&ncbO);
if (uc==NRC_CMDTMO) { Sleep(1000); ncbO.ncb_length=sizeof(X);
uc=Netbios(&ncbO); }
if (uc!=NRC_GOODRET && uc!=NRC_INCOMP) return FALSE;
if (uc==NRC_INCOMP) { return FALSE; /* Need to issue second command ? */ }
return TRUE;
}
Can it be possible that the WOW32 has a bug making it update the structures
with data in 64 bit format? But even so i would think that huge buffer
should be big enough and i have also tried to add extra buffers around it.
Maybe it's just the runtime check routine that gets confused somehow. Help!
Also, can someone tell how one is supposed to handle NRC_INCOMP ? And is the
NCBRESET step always required?

Something strange going on with Windows X64 Pro and Nvidia Network Controller.
Hello,
When trying to send udp packets with a random payload size between 0 and
65000 windows only sends little packets ?
The udp packets are not fragmented properly... at least according to
ethereal...
Could be a windows x64 stack bug, an ethereal/winpcap bug or maybe it's my
program at fault.
Really weird.
Windows x64 Pro also the most crashy operating system so far, haven't tried
vista yet though... only in virtual pc and even that was bad he ! ;)
Bye,

Media Center Corrupted Recordings
Lately, two of my recordings (same show, same day of week, and same time)
have come out corrupted. It has only been those two recordings (out of
hundreds). When I try to play them I get a black screen and possibly an
error message. If I click stop and try again enough times I eventually get
the "Resume" option instead of "play". If I click "Resume" the video plays
just fine unless I try again from the beginning.
What is going on here? Is there a way to fix this? Is there a video
editing program I can use to repair the recordings?

WoW! continued
I cannot believe my luck. So far everything's working. Adobe CS2 installed
and updated without a hitch. I'd read somewhere that InDesign wouldn't work
but mine does. And, as if that were not enough, I popped a Goo Goo Dolls DVD
into the player and it works. I'll go away now and get back to my design
task(s). I just wanted you all to know that new AMD OEM PC's are certainly
up to the tasks of running Vista Ultimate 64 bit and I haven't had to go
fishing for a single driver... Knock on wood... I'd rather fish for trout...

Print Server Migration 32bit to 64bit
I have 300+ plus printers that need to be moved over to a 64bit 2003 Server
O.S.
What would be the easiest way to tackle this? Should I focus on importing
all the printers to the new server and then go through the process of adding
drivers for each printer?
From what I've read, printmig.exe is not the correct tool to use for
migrating from a 32bit os to a 64bit os. Would using printmanagemnt.msc from
a Vista machine do the trick?
I'm not sure how a situation like this affects end users, will I have to
come up with a way to remap printers after migrating to 64bit version?
Thanks in advance

Autoplay corrupted in XP x64
I have tried everything: searching on the web for ways to repair this: with
the gpedit.msc command, with programs to repair (Microsoft only has a repair
autoplay program for XP 32-bit)... I even used my XP x64 CD to repair the
installation and the autoplay function is not working. I have access to my
DVD/CD drive, but for the USB flash drives it's worse: It's partially
recognized by XP x64, because the 'Safely Remove Hardware' button appears and
using 'manage' with right-click on 'My Computer' and going to 'Disk
Management', the drive is there, but with no letter assigned to it and when I
try to 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...', nothing happens.
What else should I try before having to reinstall Windows XP x64?

Fax
Hi ,
I am having a peculiar problem with my Win XP x64. I installed the fax
services, and when i try to send a fax, it does not go, it remains in out
box. I went to help file, there it asked me to check if local services were
on, i checked that too, it is on, no problems there.
The modem i see in device manager is SOFTV92 Data Fax modem with Smart CP.
There is no problem with the modem as i checked using DIALER to call my other
number and i am able to call my other number. I am also able to use 3rd party
fax software like VentaFax.
So please help me guys. Tag: Win XP Pro 64-bit replacement Tag: 52095
