I was told to put it in the C:\Windows\syswow64 folder and turn off the User Account Control. regsvr32 dxtmeta2.dll doesn't work. It says the module dxtmeta2.dll failed to load. I also tried a small batch file that was made to install the dll in Vista. That didn't work either. Is there anyway to work around this and get the dll to install?  - cpu usage hovers around 50% I am using Win XP Pro x64 at work for 3D CAD. The cpu usage hovers around 50% when the 3D CAD is doing calculations. Most of the time the HD is idling and I have enough memory for the job, so I presume these two items are not dragging the system. I can tell I am spending an hour per day accumulatively on waiting and I certainly want to cut this down. There is a hotfix KB896256 for the XP SP2, but it seems not for the 64 bit machine as the installation warns me "This KB896256 is for a different hardware platform." Has anyone experienced the same and is there any other tweak?  - Windows 64-bit Won't Boot! Hi I've been running windows 32-bit for a while but I decided I should upgrade to take advantage of my processor with the 64-bit edition. I'm installing it on a RAID 0 setup which the installer recognizes. I remformat the partition I'm installing the system on and install it. Then it restarts and it seemed like it wasn't finishing the installation properly. I did it several times (reformatting each time) and finally I got a full install. Then when I try to boot the computer from that partition, it gets through the POST but when the Vista load screen comes up the screen flashes blue and reboots.  - Hard Drive Disappears I recently built a new computer, and have installed Windows XP Pro x64 as my only OS. All of my new drives are SATA, and everything in the install went fine, with no errors. All of the hard drives are recognized, and I didn't have to manually install any drivers (XP picked up my SATA drives just fine on its own). Once I had it up and running smoothly, I broke down my old computer, which was running XP Pro x86 (32bit). I pulled out both of the old IDE drives and connected them in the new box, one at a time, in order to copy over my files. With the first drive, a 40Gb Maxtor, everything went fine. With the other, a 120Gb Seagate, I am having problems. When I first boot up the box, it recognizes the drive, and I'm able to start copying files. If I leave it idle for a while, and go do something else with the computer, like read my email or play a game, it "forgets" the drive is there. I can no longer access it, and it doesn't show up at all in Drive Management. All the SATA stuff (two hard drives and the DVD-ROM) is fine, but the IDE drive just disappears. Rescanning for drives doesn't find it; and I have to completely reboot the machine in order for it to find the drive again. Any idea what is causing this?  - Printing problems XP64 networked printers We've just migrated to using shared network printers on a Server 2003. We have 64-bit Windows XP workstations, so we have the 32bit and 64bit drivers loaded on the server. We're having some printing problems that seem mostly prevalent on the 64-bit machines. When you send a print command, sometimes they will stall, and experience long delays of the application locked up before they print. I'm also getting "Thunking" errors. Any ideas apreciated.  - Install of Vista 32bit after the 64bit I have a pre installed Vista Home Premium 64bit (and the cd - activated by me 2 days ago) in my brand new computer.  - Driver and hard drive problem A couple of days ago I took a SATA hard drive from another computer and installed it on this computer. I hot plugged it in and everything went well. Assigned G & L and showed up in Computer and was viewable in explorer normally. I decided I wanted to keep my hard drives sequentially lettered, so I changed L to the next available letter, took H-K and moved them down 1 letter and changed the temp letter to H (all in Disk Management). Still everything showed up okay in Computer, Disk Management and Device Manager. Now for the problem. Next reboot the computer said it had to install new drivers. I let each of the two iterations find the appropriate driver, after which it had to reboot. After the reboot the drive failed to show up in Computer or Disk Management, it showed up as other devices in Device Manager. The next reboot asked for drivers again, but this time both iterations failed to find drivers. The solution offered was to download KB940199 which I did and it would not install. I checked to see installed updates and see I installed it on 1/1/2008. Next reboot asked for the drivers again and this time I clicked not to offer the New Hardware Wizard again for this device for both iterations (still just one drive). Next reboot failed on hardware failure 0x0000007b. I booted with last known good, successfully, but now asks for drivers again. Short story, now I either have to select ask again and go thru this each time the machine boots since every time I select Don't Ask the hardware crash occurs. It makes no difference whether the drive is connected or not. With it connected I get the drive shown in Other Devices with the driver not installed.  - Disk Imaging for 64 bit Vista Hey gang, Now that I have some important apps and data in my Vista Ultimate 64 bit install, I think the time has come for me to start imaging it. I am dual booting with XP Pro 32 bit, but now find myself rarely going into XP. I used Powerquest's Drive Image, for my XP install on a 80 gb external usb hard drive, I have just purchased and received a new 500 gb WD external usb hard drive. I know Drive Image was gobbled up by Norton, and is now their Ghost program, but I am not a big fan of Symantec products. I am thinking of going with Acronis True Image 11, seems to be a popular imaging program that a lot of folks like. It states it supports Vista, as well as XP 32 and 64 bit, so I assume it will work fine with Vista 64 bit. Just curious what others are using and their thoughts? Also, perhaps a stupid question. As mentioned, I have XP Pro 32 bit along with Vista Ultimate 64 bit installed, on separate hard drives/partitions. Let's say I image all partitions, with True Image, and something happens and I restore all partitions, including the XP partitions, from within Vista.  - xp keeps restarting with blue screen on startup hey this is the second time ive had this problem with my computer. when i start it, it gets to windows and a blue screen comes up and restarts the computer. i cant start it in safe mode or recently known settings etc. i tried to repair with installation cd but would not let me. i could reinstall but would lose all my data and this could happen again so want to fix the problem. i haven't recently installed any hardware or anything. my computer froze 1 day and so i had to press the reset button and then it would not start windows. i cant read the error message on the blue screen cause it restarts to quickly. could anyone help please??
