I spent nearly an hour convincing myself that a Microsoft hosted discussion
group concerning a new operating system couldn't be searched, at least using
IE 6.

I'm sure the participants here would appreciate not having to answer the
same questions over and over again. I tried to look back page by page to find
out about finding a HP 1055CM driver that will run under 64 bit.

I think it speaks volumes about the level of interest Microsoft has in it's
64 bit platforms that you can't even search the discussion group.

This group is now archived on Google Groups and you can search Google Groups,
that should allow you to find what you need.

PS, FWIW, Google Groups is the way to search any newsgroup that's archived
there (and that's almost all of them except binaries and warez groups). Most
servers, including Microsoft's have limited retention, Google retains every
post from the date they began archiving a group.

If you use a dedicated Newsgroup reader such as Outlook Express, which comes
bundled with Windows, the search functionality is bit better than whats on
the web version. Did you check http://www.planetamd64.com for drivers?

Thanks for the info.

Just for grins I searched the windows 95 dos applications group and got hits
on my search topics. So your saying to search windows groups I should go to
Google groups. I don't know 64 bit XP sounds like way to much trouble to
introduce in a production environment at this time.
Searched HP for drivers for 1055 ( Large format plotter ) no dice. The o/s
shipped with 64 bit drivers for Plotters that have been discontinued the last
century. The 1055 is still in production and HP does not have a driver for
it, that I can install on an HP4300 workstation with win XP64 OEM. Think I'll
just shell out the money for XP 32 and wait till some people get their act
together.

Hello,
I just checked the Google Windows X64 group. It shows 7 members with a
total of 5 messages. If this microsoft newsgroup is archived there, can you
please provide a link?

I recently set up this group to use Outlook Express as a news group reader
specifically to be able to "search" the postings because the "search"
function does not work through Internet Explorer. A couple weeks later my
ISP had so much traffic that they closed port 119 until they can get more
bandwidth on line. (I don't think this was just because of me!) This closed
the newsgroup port, so I can no longer use Outlook Express to receive the
headers and messages.

Maybe I just did not look in the correct place at Google? A link would
really help.

Thanks,

Thanks for the link. I subscribed and it "searches" OK. Not quite as good
as having the messages in OE, but until my ISP can get their act to gether,
this is much better than "no search".
BTW, thanks to this group, my Win X64 system is running "Great" and very
stable.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the advice BUT our business runs on Exchange, Outlook clients and
IE 6.
The other Newsgroups are searchable, why not this one?
Checked your referenced site for drivers, no joy.
Thanks but I think this stuff is getting reformatted.

Assuming OE is still available, you can use it as a newsreader only. I'm
doing that right now (Outlook for email, etc. and OE for news). OE even has
a commandline switch that makes it a news reader only.

Create a shortcut to something like: "C:\Program Files\Outlook
Express\msimn.exe" /newsonly

Also, sometimes Outlook has the ability to add a toolbar/menu item that
opens the OE newsreader. Just customize the toolbar and look under "Go"
(IIRC). I say sometimes because my Outlook currently doesn't offer that
option, no idea why.

I meant, did you contact them? You need to be registered with HP to do this:
https://h41186.www4.hp.com/country/us/en/feedback.html?lang=en&cc=us&pageseq=760976

I did the leg work for this part of it. For some reason HP makes you jump
through hoops to email them about their products. LOL

Thats what I do. I don't want Office Outlook as a newsreader, just makes the
program seem overbloated.

Thanks for your efforts.
I had sent in a request for support from HP at that location.
I received a reply that I could look forward to the release of all current
drivers for HP printers and Plotters in Q1 2006.
I replyed back that I have 5 HP wx4300 workstations that need drivers and
why did it take a year to recompile a plotter driver. Haven't heard back on
that one yet.

Please excuse my delayed response as I could not "sign in" for hours and
from two different computers. Microsoft should be embarrassed about the
operation of this newsgroup. Not about the participants mind you.

No problemo. Sometimes I am down for days, and then never respond to
previous messages. LOL
