    - Windows 64-bit Won't Boot! Hi I've been running windows 32-bit for a while but I decided I should upgrade to take advantage of my processor with the 64-bit edition. I'm installing it on a RAID 0 setup which the installer recognizes. I remformat the partition I'm installing the system on and install it. Then it restarts and it seemed like it wasn't finishing the installation properly. I did it several times (reformatting each time) and finally I got a full install. Then when I try to boot the computer from that partition, it gets through the POST but when the Vista load screen comes up the screen flashes blue and reboots.     - Windows Media Store Update Center has stopped working? Hey gang, I posted the below, in the Media Center group couple of days ago, have not got any responses yet. Thought I might try here next, as there are some pretty knowledgeable folks hang out in here. Anyone else ever run across this? Not sure if it is something I should be very concerned about or not... I recently, have starting getting this message pop up on occasion, even when I am not running Media Player , or Media Center. " Windows Media Store Update Manager has stopped working".     - Hard Drive Disappears I recently built a new computer, and have installed Windows XP Pro x64 as my only OS. All of my new drives are SATA, and everything in the install went fine, with no errors. All of the hard drives are recognized, and I didn't have to manually install any drivers (XP picked up my SATA drives just fine on its own). Once I had it up and running smoothly, I broke down my old computer, which was running XP Pro x86 (32bit). I pulled out both of the old IDE drives and connected them in the new box, one at a time, in order to copy over my files. With the first drive, a 40Gb Maxtor, everything went fine. With the other, a 120Gb Seagate, I am having problems. When I first boot up the box, it recognizes the drive, and I'm able to start copying files. If I leave it idle for a while, and go do something else with the computer, like read my email or play a game, it "forgets" the drive is there. I can no longer access it, and it doesn't show up at all in Drive Management. All the SATA stuff (two hard drives and the DVD-ROM) is fine, but the IDE drive just disappears. Rescanning for drives doesn't find it; and I have to completely reboot the machine in order for it to find the drive again. Any idea what is causing this?     - Printing problems XP64 networked printers We've just migrated to using shared network printers on a Server 2003. We have 64-bit Windows XP workstations, so we have the 32bit and 64bit drivers loaded on the server. We're having some printing problems that seem mostly prevalent on the 64-bit machines. When you send a print command, sometimes they will stall, and experience long delays of the application locked up before they print. I'm also getting "Thunking" errors. Any ideas apreciated.     - What's wrong with Vista Business 64bits What's wrong with this picture: Vista 64 Business fresh install with new machine, disbled all the microsoft crap for the twit users, simply trying to copy a file of 76,646 KB from an external drive to the C: drive, which works on XP, is still trying to copy after 504 hours...yes we are letting it do it stuff to see if the brilliant Microsoft product will come out of its cycle...     - Driver and hard drive problem A couple of days ago I took a SATA hard drive from another computer and installed it on this computer. I hot plugged it in and everything went well. Assigned G & L and showed up in Computer and was viewable in explorer normally. I decided I wanted to keep my hard drives sequentially lettered, so I changed L to the next available letter, took H-K and moved them down 1 letter and changed the temp letter to H (all in Disk Management). Still everything showed up okay in Computer, Disk Management and Device Manager. Now for the problem. Next reboot the computer said it had to install new drivers. I let each of the two iterations find the appropriate driver, after which it had to reboot. After the reboot the drive failed to show up in Computer or Disk Management, it showed up as other devices in Device Manager. The next reboot asked for drivers again, but this time both iterations failed to find drivers. The solution offered was to download KB940199 which I did and it would not install. I checked to see installed updates and see I installed it on 1/1/2008. Next reboot asked for the drivers again and this time I clicked not to offer the New Hardware Wizard again for this device for both iterations (still just one drive). Next reboot failed on hardware failure 0x0000007b. I booted with last known good, successfully, but now asks for drivers again. Short story, now I either have to select ask again and go thru this each time the machine boots since every time I select Don't Ask the hardware crash occurs. It makes no difference whether the drive is connected or not. With it connected I get the drive shown in Other Devices with the driver not installed.     - Disk Imaging for 64 bit Vista Hey gang, Now that I have some important apps and data in my Vista Ultimate 64 bit install, I think the time has come for me to start imaging it. I am dual booting with XP Pro 32 bit, but now find myself rarely going into XP. I used Powerquest's Drive Image, for my XP install on a 80 gb external usb hard drive, I have just purchased and received a new 500 gb WD external usb hard drive. I know Drive Image was gobbled up by Norton, and is now their Ghost program, but I am not a big fan of Symantec products. I am thinking of going with Acronis True Image 11, seems to be a popular imaging program that a lot of folks like. It states it supports Vista, as well as XP 32 and 64 bit, so I assume it will work fine with Vista 64 bit. Just curious what others are using and their thoughts? Also, perhaps a stupid question. As mentioned, I have XP Pro 32 bit along with Vista Ultimate 64 bit installed, on separate hard drives/partitions. Let's say I image all partitions, with True Image, and something happens and I restore all partitions, including the XP partitions, from within Vista.     - Whats the Difference?? RAID 0 Questions: 1. What reading do you recommend regarding RAID 0? I want to get fully locked in on the RAID world and to do this, I need some sources (Reading wise). 2A. This is a little difficult to explain, but here we go. My PC has RAID 0 & 1 ability. The software side "Intel Matrix Storage Console". The paperwork that came with the system states this method to use (Obviously at this point the OS and drivers and all software is already installed). However, when I use this method, I do NOT get the HD's combined (Viewing that is) in my Computer screen or the Computer Management area), but the Intel Matrix Storage Console shows and states they are combined. **This deletes everything from the RAID drives! 2B. When I boot up my PC the RAID controller displays that status of the RAID and all pertinent information. Now if I "DELETE" the RAID created in step 2A and then save and exit and do another Reboot and enter the RAID controller area and CREATE a RAID 0, save and exit. I am than prompted to insert a system disk. I than insert disk 1 of the recovery disks. Once all loaded and finally reach the desktop, ALL drives are ONE drive. NO where is there any reference of the 2nd disk! So this is how it is suppose to look from what I have learned here. Everything works, system is snappier; HOWEVER, I start getting the BSOD! Where I never got them before I am now! The only deduction I can summorize from this is tha the OS is Striped, opposed to being on 1 HD in one specific place as in 2A above. I need some thoughts on this and maybe some helpfull pointers on how to overcome the obstacles as stated in the above questions. Unfortunately, the application is unstable and can crash anywhere in the code whereas it perfectly works unders our 32-bits systems. I checked and my Xeon CPU is a 64-bits one. The OS name is "Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition" (displayed by Lavalys Everest). I read that the build 5.2.3790 is the same as Windows XP x64 so I suppose that my Windows Server 2003 will run in 32-bits over 32-bits CPU and will run in 64-bits mode over 64-bits CPU. => So I suppose, I am running my Windows Server 2003 in 64-bits mode.     - Vista 64 Bit - Media Centre & support Folks I have Topfield PVR and it is brilliant albeit getting long in the tooth and would like to replicate its functionality and more in a appropriately provisioned workstation. Given that the Intel Penryn Quad core processors are now available, and the price of 1TB HDDs are falling, its time to jump into a a media centre workstation (I also want to use it for normal computing functions (Office, Project, Visio etc). I'd like to use Vista in its 64 bit mode to overcome the addressing limitations. I am in Australia and we use PAL-B as the television standard and have a myriad of standards for what is called Standard definitiona nd high definition digital TV. I want to use the Intel Q9450 or Q9550 processors for plenty of grunt and headroom - the rest is a greenfield site. I'm looking for recommendations for motherboards that are best suited to the processors and media centre (and to future proof as much as possible); RAIDed terrabyte HDDs - OK on the motherboard or better to have a separate controller; Graphics cards (not a gamer but want good output from the media centre); TV cards (the Topfield can record two channels and playback another at the same time - it'd be nice to be able to record more channels than the two (out here programs never run according to the published schedule!) - it that now possible given the extra processing power of the Quad core processors; and any other recommendations that you'd like to make.     - Laptop noise Since I intalled Windows Vista Business 64-Bits in my Acer Aspire 5630-6091 I can hear a strange noise (I think from processor). The laptop config is an Intel Core-2-Duo with 1Gb RAM. With Windows XP I didn't have this problem. This is my second laptop with this problem and with the same behavior: only in normal use of Windows. The most stange is when I start Windows Vista in secure mode: the noise stops. In my point of view, this is a problem with drivers of Windows Vista. When I'm in a quite place this noise is horrible. Yep, all for Ultimate.

There are 2 new sound schemes - Ultimate Pearl, and Ultimate Glass - for
those who want a change from the default scheme, and a couple of new
Dreamscenes, but I have yet to check them out.

Sorry for the late reply - I've been sidetracked by that 4 letter word
"work". Strange going back to work after over 20 years, but I'm actually
enjoying it :)
