If you used an upgrade version you are not eligible to dual boot.
Otherwise, unplug your Vista drive and install XP. Then, you have a choice.
If your BIOS makes it easy to switch priority easily, you can select OS
during post, otherwise, you can reset the Vista drive as the first drive in
boot priority, download VistaBootPro and install it and use it to add a
legacy OS to the Vista boot and the you will have the Vista boot give you
the option which system to boot to. Do keep in mind that every time you
boot into XP you will be erasing all your restore points on your Vista
system.
