Audio Drivers for Vista Ultimate x64
I have recently installed Windows Vista Ultimate x64 bit and while all seems
great i am unable to find the necessary audio sound drivers for my system.
My system is an ConRoe945G-DVI E6300 with the Intel 82945G Express Chipset
Family. I have the original motherboard disk but it say's it's unable to
install on my current OS.
Any help would be appreciated.

Issues emerging while slipstreaming. . .
O.K. - nearly there, however the 'HowTo' in this link (courtesy of Theo):
http://maximumpc.com/2005/01/how_to_slipstre.html
in Step 3. Says:
Open the folder to which you copied your Windows XP CD (C:\xpsetupcd) and
create a subfolder called $OEM$. Then, create a subfolder of $OEM$ called $1
and a subfolder of $1 called drivers. The resulting path should be
C:\xpsetupcd\$OEM$\$1\drivers.
Later, in step 5, this is referenced as:
You'll need to customize the OemPnPDriversPath line by entering the path to
the INF file for your RAID/SATA driver (for instance if your drivers are in
C:\xpsetupcd\i386\$OEM$\$1\drivers\RAID use:
OemPnPDriversPath=drivers\RAID\FastTrack\WinXP).
I tend to think the second version should be correct - any comments?
Also, the text only deals with the driver consisting of only 'one' SYS
file - mine has two, and as I recall, both where listed as (Required) when I
installed the last time. The text also only deals with one instance of the
CPI/VEN_ description, while making a note about inserting all instances
(which I did). There are five - does this mean that I should insert those
five ID's twice, each for the two SYS files?
I hope someone has this in fresh memory - but for these minor
inconsistencies, I am ready to burn!

About ordering the 64-bit version of Windows Vista for 9.95?!
About aweek ago I went to www.windowsvista.com/1033/ordermedia and I typed
in all of the needed info that is asked then ordered a 64-bit version of
Windows Vista Home Premium for 9.95 and in my mail on 02/08/07 I received a
64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Basic. So I know that I was sent the
wrong disc, because I am thinking that if I download the 64-bit version of
Windows Vista Home Basic over my currently installed version of 32-bit
Windows Vista Home Premium then I will lose all of the features of Home
Premium and would only have Home Basic(albeit a 64-bit). Unless I am wrong?
So if I called Microsoft will they fix this issue and send me out the 64-bit
version of Windows Vista Home Premium at no charge or will I be charged
another $9.95 to get the correct disc?
Has this happened to anyone else? Tag: drive problem Tag: 44497

Unable to install "Client for Microsoft Networks" in XP64
Hi,
I'm building a new C2D rig and I have XP64 on it. The install goes
fine, I got sound and video drivers, IE7 64-bit is nice and all, but
this one problem is a real show-stopper. I got the network drivers
installed, TCPIP works, but the Client for Microsoft Networks just
refuses to install. When I try to add it, I get this:
"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The remote
procedure call failed."
This is the built-in ethernet on an Intel DP965LT board, BIOS updated,
all drivers are latest. Intel says these are specific 64-bit drivers.
Poking around Google I see I'm not the only person to have this
problem. However, solutions seem to be lacking, and many of the things
I am seeing are fairly old (6+ months) so they are unlikely to be of
any help.

ODBC drivers in Windows x64 Professional Edition
Is there currently a way to make an ODBC connection from a 64-bit application
to Access and Excel files? My understanding is that a 64 bit ODBC driver is
required when creating 64 bit applications.
Is there an alternative to ODBC to connect a 64 bit application to Access
and Excel?
- I specifically want to target x64 machines so setting target machine to
x86 in my compiler options (in order to use the 32bit ODBC driver
equivalents) is not an option.
- I specifically do not want to go through SQL Server.

Runaway csrss.exe use 4GB, how to kill?
Hi.
We have a problem at one of our servers. One (out of 4) csrss.exe
process uses 1.1GB of mem and 4GB of VM. That process seems to be dead
(as in not doing anything) and I'd like to kill it. The server is
almost out of virtual memory and will crash in 5-10 hours.
OS is Windows 2003 EE on IA64.
Anyway, my questions are:
- Is it safe to kill the csrss.exe process?
- What's the recommended way to kill it?
- Does anyone know the cause of our problems?
Rebooting is not an option yet. We will be forced to reboot in a day
or two, but cannot accept any down time right now.
Thanks in advance for all answers.

Installing 64bit from 32 bit.
I know this may sound like a repeat, but I have a interesting question.. So
far I havent quite gotten all the info I needed... I have bought a Vista
home premium and found out I could order a 64bit dvd. I tried to order a
64bit dvd using windows xp MCE at the time, but to no success..
So I then went and proceeded to install my Vista HP (home premium) 32bit and
was able to order the 64 bit OS. When I was trying to order the 64bit dvd, I
had to have vista installed for the ordermedia website to validate my license
code.
Since I have already activated the 32bit product key, would I be able to
activate the license code on the 64bit *after replacing 32bit with 64bit*
without having to call in MS and ask for activation to the 64bit from the
32bit? I plan to switch to 64bit when I get the DVD.
So far I havent seen any info regarding the activating with the switch from
32 bit to 64bit :)

.Net Framework 1.1 SP1 on Vista x64 - Supported?
I'm trying to install the .NET Framework 1.1 on Vista Business x64, RTM. I
downloaded the 11/29/2006 build that says it supports Vista. It specifically
calls out x64 2003 and XP, but not x64 Vista so maybe it's not supported?
When I try and run the dotnetfx.exe installer I get a UAC prompt (expected),
I click Yes on "Would you lke to install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
Package" and then immediately I get "An error occurred while Windows
Installer was initializing. Setup will now close."
So I try and get cleaver and extract all the files from the self-extracting
executible and run the netfx.msi package. I then get a compatibility warning
and it directs me to the 1.1 SP1 download. I go ahead and install the base
1.1 package and then install the SP1 package. I get another compatibility
warning on the SP1 package that tells me to download the SP1 package, the
very one I'm trying to install! Microsoft, please get your story straight. :-)
After all of that, it seems to have installed. Is this really a supported
configuration and should I expect problems, or were the warnings false
alerts? I didn't see any additional updates beyond SP1 for .Netframework 1.1
that I need. I ran Windows Update and it didn't flag any more updates or
patches.
So my two comments/questions are:
1. Microsoft, please fix the installer so that I don't need to manually
extract the base install files and run the .MSI packge.
2. Fix the compatibility warning for the SP1 file so that it doesn't
re-direct me to the very download that I'm installing to fix the first
compatibility warning.
3. Or repackage the .Net Framework 1.1 and SP1 into a single package so that
you don't get any warnings and it just works. Gasp! :-)
4. Is this really supported on Vista x64? Tag: drive problem Tag: 44312

The problem is when the number of accounts exeeds 20 â?? the logonui.exe and
lsass.exe take 30% of the CPU usage, which is quite a lot. (lsass.exe â??
20%-22%)
Some facts about the problem â??
1. I installed all critical and optional windows updates for the x64.
2. I tries to replace the logonui.exe with a new one (with a new logon
screen, just to see if the file is corrupt or not).
3. When the accounts number is 10 there is no problem.
4. My application needs the option to switch users so I canâ??t disable this
option.
5. I have several Blade servers with the same configuration and the problem
occurs on them all.

assume I need to install the old 32-bit version of Office onto the new Vista
computer, or can I use the new Office version and still access those 32-bit
files?
Thanks for the help. Tag: drive problem Tag: 44283
Upgrade vs Upgrade - not a faq but maybe some answers. Comments and Corrections welcomed.
1. any version of XP or windows2000 qualifies you to use the upgrade
version of vista (32 bit or 64 bit)
2. 32 bit systems upgrading to 32 bit Vista can do a conventional
upgrade preserving compatible programs, user settings data files etc.
3. Going from any version of XP (or 2000) to 64 bit Vista is not what
you would normally call an upgrade.
4. If you have a 32 bit xp and decide to install 64 bit vista, you
are probably going to have to boot into the vista dvd to start the
install.
5. If you have a 64 bit version of XP, the install may be started
from windows, but will put all that exists on the system drive in a
folder called windows.old. If you want to make any changes to your
Hard Drive, ie format or repartition and format or extend it, you must
boot off the Vista install dvd. Also, the anytime upgrade process
will act just like your initial install, except I believe it must be
started from windows, but the 64 bit version once again will move
everything on the system drive into windows.old. As yet I have no
experience with the 32 bit anytime upgrade.
6. During the install of 64 bit Vista if you have booted off the
Vista dvd and you tell it to format the drive, there is no Are you
sure? followed by "to format the drive press F" So be sure of what
you want to do before answering any prompts.
7. If you purchase an Upgrade version, you must have an installed
previous version. Vista will not Qualify the upgrade by inserting
install media, So no "bare metal" installs with upgrade Product Keys.
if you want to do a "bare metal" install you need the full product or
OEM product,
8. The only version that has both 64 and 32 bit media is Vista
Ultimate. If you get one of the other versions of the full product of
an Upgrade it will have only 32 bit media. OEM versions are available
in either 32 bit or 64 bit but not both in one package. If you buy a
32 bit version (Upgrade or Full Product) you may order the 64 bit
media from Microsoft. The Same product key will work for either. In
fact it is My understanding that all the 32 bit media is the same, and
all the 64 bit media is the same, the Product Key controls what you
can install off the media.
Hope this helps someone.

Upgrading from XP Home Media
I bought Windows Vista Home Premium Upgrade and found out it was the 32 bit
version. I wanted the 64 bit and find out I have to order it which I did.
Can I load the 32 bit version and then load the 64 bit as an upgrade or do I
wait and install the 64 bit? If I have to wait do I do an upgrade or clean
install?

Are you running Roxio Easy Media Creator? If so open EMC then push you
drive eject button. Easy Media Creator can cause this due to conflict
with some other CD/DVD software. Running EMC9 & Nero7 has been reporte
to cause this issue
