Epson 2580 Photo Scanner
Believe it or not Epson has finally released a driver for
this scanner that has 64-bit drivers.
The file is listed as Windows Vista 32-bit Edition
epson12204.exe - 20MB - posted on 02/15/07
but it in fact has 64-bit drivers included in the package
and I have installed it on my XP x64 system. I also
installed the drivers on my XP Pro system. So, even though
it claims the package is for Vista 32-bit it seems it alos

Vista Ultimate 64 Limiting RAM to 4gb
I have been using Vista Ultimate 64 since release with no problems. I
upgraded from my 1gb of ram to 5gb total. Adding 4x1gb sticks. At boot the

all the ram and it works fine.

LLTD Responder (protocol) and XP Pro x64
Hi folks,
I've just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium. Seems everything
works fine on it. I have a home network. It's a "hybrid", DLink DI-524
WirelessG router and 4 port switch. Desktop is wired to the router,
external hd wired to router. Desktop is running XP Pro x64. Also have an
old laptop running XP Home.
The only networking problem I have (I think) is that my Vista system won't
see either of the XP systems in the Network Map or in Explorer - Network if
it is turned on while the other systems are already running. I literally
have to turn on the Vista laptop first, then start or reboot the XP systems.
Network Discovery Help tells me that I need to install "Link Layer Topology
Discovery Responder" on the two XP systems. I found that for XP x86. I
haven't found that for XP Pro x64. Apparently it is not included in the x64
SP2, which I just installed on the x64 machine.
*WHEN* the Vista machine does see the other two systems, they can all 3 talk
back and forth, file and printer sharing, all day long, just fine.
Any help for this one?
TIA!

Windows x64 Edition won't start after Avast Update
Hi,
I have a computer that I built that won't boot after the latest Avast
update. I updated Avast late Thurs (10/25/07) night and when it said that I
needed to restart the computer, I pushed OK for it to restart and went to
bed. I got up Friday morning and it was on a solid blue (not BSOD) screen.
Now, it won't boot at all. I get thru the POST, and when it gets to launching
the Windows x64 logo, it freezes on a black screen. No text.
I also:
- cannot get into any of the safe mode options, with one exception - when I
launch into "Safe Mode" - I can see the lines "multidisk, rdisk, etc etc"
coming across the screen and it stops on a line that ends in
\windows\inf\biosinfo.inf - so it appears that this is where it freezes.
- cannot boot to my original XP CDrom.
- cannot get into the recovery console.
Everything freezes to a black screen before I can get to any options that
may allow me to work on this drive.
I have slaved the drive to another x64 computer. I have full access to all
of the data and files. Nothing is lost.
So I'm thinking that when Avast did it's update on Thursday night, it
corrupted one of the Windows boot files.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Do you need more information?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Cant Install XP Pro x64
Ive decided that I absolutely HATE vista (which came pre-installed on my
computer) and want to install XP Pro x64 on my computer in its place.
I have a 3 HDD RAID 0 configuration, no floppy drive (a 52 in 1 card reader
in its place), and an i680 EVGA MB. Additionally, I was not given any RAID
drivers with the computer, just the OS software and a recovery disk. I have
alot of data already on the 3 other partitions of my RAID drive so I dont
want to destroy the RAID to get XP Pro x64.
During the OS install, I get an error that no HDD was detected. When I
press the F6 (I think that is the key) to install 3rd party SCSI or RAID
controller, I eventually get pushed to another screen that says no floppy was
detected then booted back to the no HDD was detected screen.
So, where is this RAID driver (its not obvious on the EVGA website - just
the newest "motherboard drivers" are there) and once I have the driver, how
do I get the XP Pro x64 installer to install it since I have no floppy?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Tag: chkdsk logs in Vista Tag: 52603

version. After installation and reboot I had a background but no icons and
no taskbar or start button. I tried many suiggestions from the web but none
helped.
Since then i have tried additional clean installations, reformatting again
in between, but now every installation leaves me with the same situation; no
icons, no taskbar or start button.
I can open task manger, but cannot get any programs to run from there.
Safe mode does work.

Vista 64 - Incomplete booting after increasing RAM
I increaased the RAM on my system from 1GB to 3 GB. The sticks are 2 1 GB
sticks and 2 512 MB sticks. As long as I keep the 2- 1GB sticks installed
Vista will not Boot completely. First It will take about 15 minutes to get
to the user selection window. Then after selection the boot process will
only go to the opening window with a gray portion showing where the task bar
would be located and the rest of the screen black. I will get a dialog
stating the Windows Explorer is not responding. It also offers two choices
Close the program
Wait for the program to respond.
I first tried to wait for the program to respond. After a half an hour I
figured it wasn't going to so I rebooted and went through the tedious boot
process again. When I got the Dialog again I selected close the program.
This time, a few seconds later, a still picture of my usual moving pictire
screen appeared. However nothing else could be done.
I did remove one of the 1 - GB sticks and the system seemed to boot
normally. I also checked if the BIOS recognized the new memory and it did.
The problem appears to begin after I get the initial moving bar at the
beginning of the windows boot process. Tag: chkdsk logs in Vista Tag: 52532
System Restore is not working due to RPC server error

problem prevents System Restore from working at all.
I post the message here because after some digging I found out that the
message has something to do with a 64bit (ndr64) RPC client trying to access
a 32bit (dce) RPC server? Suggesting some 64bit component got replaced by a
