Norton Internet Security doesn't work with XP 64bit. I'm new to 64bit - which
is the best antivirus sortware to use?

Which, IMHO, is a good thing.

I like Grisoft AVG, which supports both XP x64 *and* Vista x64 (as well as
all 32-bit Windows), and is available for free for home, non-commercial use.

I keep a list of known, currently supported, AV for Windows XP x64 on my
blog at: http://msmvps.com/blogs/xperts64/archive/2006/03/05/Antivirus.aspx

There are also some beta versions coming, though it's unclear if they will
work in XP x64, or only Vista x64.

I am using avast! Home Edition 4.7. It comes with 64 and 32 bit in the same
.exe.
