I have just added a 1TB WesternDigital MyBook World Edition to the house
network, the XP 32 bit machine have no problem accessing this device via
\\name\\directory but my own XP64 machine refuses to connect using this
method or the IP address. I can access the configuration Wizard via IE7 with
no problem using the IP. I have also noticed the other machines on the net
(same workgroup) do not appear in my network. Is there any way of 'fixing'
this?

It's a netbios name resolution issue. For a few XP machines on a home
network without a WINS server, you could try an lmhosts file on each.
