    - windows will freeze after I leave it alone I have been having this problem recently where the computer will not respond after being left alone for awhile. The screensaver will have turned on and have frozen and it will not come back for keyboard or mouse. In fact, the keyboard doesn't even respond (e.g. you can't turn on caps etc.). I have also tried to do this with no screensaver and having the monitor turn off after 10 minutes. This also produces the same problem, just with no screen to look at. I have to leave my computer for long periods for classes during the day and would prefer not having to turn it off every time. Any help would be awesome!     - x64 vs Vista I'm planning on building a new PC in the next few weeks, I'll make it 64-bit ready but I don't know whether I should go with x64 now, or use the Win 2K license I already have and upgrade to Vista when it becomes available. Will Vista be available in 64 bit on its release, sometime after its release or are there no current plans for a 64 bit Vista? Will Vista be a viable upgrade path from x64 or not?     - Antivirus - Avast Sucks! But I knew that already I have been running Avast Home Edition since x64 Beta two Novembers ago. So I have been using it for over a year. It's always cherrily announcing to me after a reboot (after hanging up at shutdown, of course :): "Virus Database Has Been Updated!" Yay. I was extremely skeptical at first. I had previously recommended and installed the Win32 versions of Avast for clients, and they were the ones to get infected, whereas my other clients running other AV were okay. So I stopped installing it. So when I found out that they were the only ones to make something x64 compatible, after trying to get ClamWin and others working, I did give it another try. Well, I got a letter in the mail from my internet provider today, that I was sending out SPAM and to check my machine for infections. If it was to continue, my service would be suspended. So i went to Housecall (http://housecall.trendmicro.com) which now works in Firefox, using Java. And lo and behold, I had quite a few it seems (see attachment JPGs). So I did some digging, as I really dont want to go to Norton or McAfee, and Trend Micro (which has been screwing up lately as well) doesnt make a x64 version as of yet. And I did find that the free ones, like Avast and AVG are in the 'You get what you pay for' category, which I pretty much suspected, but was a dumbass about it. Now as I search for more conclusions, I find what I needed to know months ago... Virus Bulletin ran a test of the various AV and came up with these results, which reflect my experience (with the exception of Norton and McAfee): http://www.techsupportalert.com/free-vs-paid-av.htm So I guess I have to now try Nod32? Anybody can vouch for that over Avast besides eset themselves? How long have you been using it?     - WMP repair without doing a complete reinstall of Windows 64 I am using the Action Pack version of Windows 64 but somehwo my WMP is corrupted I have tried uninstalling it using ADD/Remove to no avail as it seems to just hide unhide it. and tried using SFC /SCANNOW also is not fixing it. Of course there is no stand alone installer for WMP on the MS site even although it tires going there to reinstall. That being said it also seems to be effecting my install of NERO 7 (seems dependant for its media tools on MWP). So I guess I am asking any chance on getting a standalone repair/installer for windows 64 or advice on how to force WMP to fix itself without reloading the complete OS?     - FTP download large file on AMD64 XP x64 Hello All I am facing problem during the FTP download of large file from Windows server using XP x64 machine having AMD64 processor and VIA USB host controller. Modem is USB ADSL modem. When I download the file it downloads the complete file but does not complete the download which corrupts the downloaded file.     - Latest security update Has anyone experienced a lack of speed after they installed the lastest security update for win XP x64. My system takes longer to logon to my server, open IE, and when clicking on icons on screen and also when using internet. There is a delay of several seconds (up to 5-10secs) now between the mouse click and when anything happens. Using F8 I went into Safe Mode and I did a system restore back to 2 weeks ago and it speeded up. Then I downloaded the update again and it gone back to being slow.     - difficulty installing x64 I have just upgraded my Mobo and processor and am now using an ASsrock K8NF4G-SATA2 mobo with an AMD Sempron 3000+ 64 bit enabled processor and to get the best out of this arrangement decided to upgrade my O/S to XP Pro x64. When I try to boot the system with the CD in the drive I am prompted to press any key to boot from CD. Unfortunately I have tried this at least a couple of dozen times and pressing a key on my keyboard does not have the desired effect and my PC just boots as normal to my current O/S. Any ideas anyone?     - PNY thumb drive I have a 1GB PNY thumbdrive that Win64 will not read. The drive works fine in Win XP home, but when I plug it into my x64 box, nothing happens. I know that the USB ports work fine because when I plug my mouse into these ports I can use it. I went to the PNY website, and it says that if you are running Windows XP that you do not need to download any extra drivers.     - Installing failed. I just downloaded Windows XP 64bit edition trial off the Microsoft website and tried to install it but it said something about a hardware fail. I Burnt the ISO to a CD-R with Nero image burn. My hard drive is in two portions with enough space left over (5gig +). I didnâ??t format the portion I put the windows 64bit on because it had some files I needed. I have: AMD64 socket 939 3000+ ATI MSI 9200 128MB AGP 512mb pc 3200 ram Maxtor IDE 120GB hard drive. I recently installed winxp 64bit pro and after setting my hp photosmar p1000 to some random ass driver (brother PCL5e) that worked...then i moved on to installing programs and such and then to IIS.     - XP Pro x64 and Home Networking? Hi all, Does the home networking ("workgroup") feature work in the x64 edition? I ask for two reasons: 1. I can't get the x64 box to see the other XP Pro 32-bit box, but the 32-bit box sees the x64 box; both machines connect to a hub, which is connected to a Belkin Pre-N router and then to the Comcast cable modem. 2. RAS (Remote Desktop Connection) is completely hosed now that I've tried to do the home networking thing. RAS worked before I tried to set up the freaking home networking...I was on the phone with support for an hour, and they couldn't diagnose. When I hooked up the computer directly to the cable modem, RAS suddenly worked.     - x64 Programs I have an MSI K8N SLI nForce4 motherboard, and I just installed the 64-bit drivers on my system. This is on a new/raw clean installation of WinXP64Pro. I believe that the Program Files folder is for 64-bit programs, and the Program Files(x86) are for 32-bit programs. Can anybody tell me why my 64-bit drivers/firewallNAM are being installed in the 32-bit folder? I also have various other 64-bit programs that I downloaded that are also being installed into the 32-bit program files folder. I manually directed all of the 64-bit programs I have into the 64-bit program files folder, and so far I have only had one problem. The nVidia Network Access Manager, my hardware firewall, was pretty buggy and I had to reinstall into the 32-bit folder even though they are 64-bit drivers. Now everything is working pretty good, but I was wondering if I am going to run into any other problems with the other programs I redirected into the 64-bit folder?     - New MS Intellipoint Mouse Driver Problem? Not sure if this is an issue with the new Microsoft mouse driver 5.50.661.0 (12/01/2005) or if it is a hardware problem. I have a Microsoft Comfort Edition Desktop set (Wireless Keyboard 1.0A Model 1027 and Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0A Model 1008). After patiently waiting for the new drivers, I quickly downloaded the keyboard driver and mouse driver when this group said they were out, and I thought all would be great. However, my tilt wheel/scroll wheel does not work. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? All aspects of the software show that these features are turned on (boxes are checked). Keyboard functionality is cool and all the extra buttons work or can be mapped. Just the goofy mouse wheel is not working. Anybody have any thoughts? TIA, Gary. The Xerox 6100 is very similar to the Sansung CLP-550 which I have.
Someone mentioned the driver for the HP Color LaserJet 8550 PCL. I
tried it and my PCL-550 works fine. I found by looking around the
printer Properties panel that I could even get my duplex working. The
only option I haven't found yet, is the print booklet option.
