security updates????
I understand 13 updates were released. My windows update does not find any
updates??? Is this because I'm still running the Beta 5744?
(my copy of vista RTM is on backorder). waiting patiently here.
Microsoft's newsletter (Security At Home) even details the updates that were
released on Feb 13 th 2007.

Where are the "offical" Vista Newsgroups and hardware reviews?
Apropos since the OS on my new system is a VISTA ultimate.
oh btw why is it that alot of Hardware oriented sites still uses XP
5.10.2600,/ sp 2 for reference despite the fact that vista is hypernew.
Obvious answers are: New drivers and virtually no software support for dx10
and 64 bits and end users not fully migrated from xp yet.
Would appreciate some links towards Vista based system --> hardware and
software reviews. Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44753
Booting my system
I've windows professional xp and It needs a password to log in the system,
yesterday I did disk defragment but It gave me a massege that I have only 13%
of free space and I need at lest 15% to do the disk defragment but I did It
any way, and after It finishd I turnd off the computer and turnd it again
,and since then I have this problem: after I put the password It open small
window it says "loading your personal sittings" and right away it changes to
"logging off" then it goes back to the log in windows (where I've to put the
password again) and so on In a circle (password--loading your personal
sittigs--logging off--.....................),So that is there any one whom
can help me resolve this problem, and thank you for all your help........... Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44752
Email
I rebooted my computer and it did not recognize my Outlook 2003 email
account. It welcomed me to Outlook and asked me to set up an account which I
eventually did but now my account has no record of all my previous emails. It
also kept asking me to tour XP as if I just installed it. My other programs
seem to be OK but other office programs such as word, excell etc. show no
evidence of my being there before. The big problem is Outlook and the loss of
my email. Can anyone help? Does it have anything to do with IE 7?

backups
When I run the reccommended backups for the Small Business Accounting it
will shuffle the order of the items listed in customers invoices.
(NOTE) Frequently my customers will have open partially paid invoices for
as long as a year or more due to the nature of the business.
Anyone know of a way to stop this as I really need the chronological order
of the sales to be reflected on the invoice.

O.T. - I'm not surprised!
Just read this on THG Daily:

A Department of Justice audit has found that the Federal Bureau of
Investigation loses approximately three laptops per month. The FBI loses the
majority of the laptops, about 2.64 a month, through simple forgetfulness
while 1 laptop a month is stolen.
or, is the answer that the 2.64 is 'Home' versions, while the 1 is 'x64'?

Problem with loading install from XP cd room with XP 64 @ HD.
Got one raptordisk ----> XP 64 pro
Problem: need a fast reliable way to switch back and forwards XP 64 pro and
XP home version ^^eg. Fdisk, format,xp setup boot from cd whatever BUT the xp
vanillahome OEM disk keeps booting xp64 without giving me the option of
nuking my xp 64 pro INSTALL.
ofc I have tried to setup up BOOT cd room from Bios, but to no avail i keeps
jumping straight to the logon screen in XP 64 pro instead of giving me the
BSOWDYWTD (Blue screen of "what do you want to do") essentially I can´t
access Fdisk I realise i could prolly try swapping around Hd´s and fiddling
around with startup disks.
There´s alot of advice that starts from Putting in a Win OS in the CD rom
drive and then getting *BOOTING of the cd sans LOADING the current WIN OS eg.
the options of having your way with WHATEVER is installed on ur Hd´s but the
part BEFORE that is what I´m asking about
But most of all I want to ID the sources of these errors.
USB keyboard?
BIOS Version?
Other hardware?
I can not see why hardware should be an issue here since I can boot the OS
and have no problem running it. Is there a way FORCE fdisk or DOS prompt on
reboot? Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44735

Everyone that had the same problem was able to find a solution because they
all had Spybot on their computer and Quicktime Player was causing the
problems. There solution was to remove quicktime player from interfering with
Spybot. I have done the oposite, I uninstalled Spybot. I am assuming since I
no longer have Spybot that is what is causing the problem. Do I have to have
Spybot in order to correct this? I really didn't care for it and didn't need
it. Could that be why I cann't locate framedyn.dll anywhere in my computer?

This message appears everytime I try to open microsoft word 2000 and several
other programs including system restore. " framedyn.dll was not found try

When I try to pull up microsoft word 2000 the initial picture will come up
on the screen but then it does nothing but sits there until I finally have to
turn off the computer. You can't minimize it, expand it or close it. The

IIS 6.0 and .Net 1.1 2.0 on windows server x64
We are building a new server for the web and I am thinking of getting it
with the 64 bit version of windows so I can utilize the above 4GB memory
support without going enterprise.
I have several web sites, some are ASP.Net 2.0 but most are ASP.Net 1.1
I read that I can make IIS 6.0 run in 32 bit mode but does that mean all
sites are run on 32 bit mode or just 1.1 sites, how does that impact
performance?

How to use Windows Packager
Hi,
I just recently descovered the program called Packager, and it looks like a
very useful program. From what I have gathered, you can use it to add an
icon to certain files. Is that correct? Because I would like to be able to
make an HTML page with an icon. Anyway, whenever I "import" something like
an HTML file, or anything for that matter, and place in an icon, and "Copy
Package", I click paste where it is supposed to go, just like it says in the
help section, it pastes "scrap.shs", and it has a shs icon. Is that what it
is supposed to do?

Updating from XP 64 to Vista 64
I am thinking about updating to the Vista Home Premium and want to install
the 64bit version. I am currently running XP 64 and have no desire to go back
to 32 bit. Question I have is...if I buy Vista Home Premium, can I download

to be shipped to me?
I would pay the extra $10.00 and buy the 64 bit disk either way, I just
don't want to have to wait for it to ship to me to install it.

Internet Explorer Crashes with Windows Vista Ultimate x64
Hello,
I just wanted to share my experience hoping it will be helpful.
The problem I was confronted with occurred when I used Internet Explorer 7:
it always crashed (even with only 1 tab opened). I tried the 32-bit version
of IE, but it still crashed. I also tried to use the no add-on version but it
crashed. The "solution" I came up with was to disable the Protected Mode and
it worked.
I submitted the problem with embedded tool every time time it occurred.

"My Computer" Key Not Working On Microsoft Wired Keyboard 500
I just purchased a Microsoft Wired 500 PS/2 keyboard. Everything seems to be
working great except the "My Computer" key doesn't seem to work. Every other
hotkey works fine, including Mail, Internet Explorer Home, Favorites, Volume
Control, Mute, Windows Media Player and Calculator.
I'm using Windows XP x64 Professional with the standard drivers.
I have tested the keyboard on another PC running Windows XP Home. The "My
Computer" key seems to work on that PC no problem. I switched keyboards (the
other keyboard is a similar corded Microsoft Keyboard) and tried the "My
Computer"
Key on that keyboard and it didn't respond on my PC either.
So, I wonder if this is a Windows x64 problem, or perhaps some other
software issue.
Any ideas on how to fix this or why this key isn't working?

is that just for USB devices? Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44565
inconsistent performance issue on Vista X64bit
I currently run Vista x64 on my gateway laptop 7510gx with 2 gig ram and
dedicated 4 gig lexar lightning 2 for readyboost feature. Of course, with no
onboard sound available for vista x64, I had to plug in my creative audigy
2ZS to get sound. After a couple days of testing the performance of this
combination setup with some basice web surfing and reading email, video chat
on yahoo messenger and listen to music through window media player 11. I
found that the system freezed up sometime due to high CPU usage. Normally it
wouldn't be a problem with window xp. Especially when video chat and surfing
the web and have outlook opened. The system freezed for awhile due to much
processing in background and have to wait for awhile for it to get back to
normal. If I kept clicking or switching between applications it won't do
nothing but queue up the processes, even won't be able to bring up the
taskmanager to shutdown some application. I don't really know what caused it
either poor applications written for x64 or the vista itself performance
issue. and another thing is retarting and shutting down the system take at
least 5 to 10 mins. And starting up take at least 10mins for system
completing the starting up tasks plus sycn the superfetch and readyboost
drive. Now I am really afraid to reboot or install anything that required
restarting the system. Overall, multi-tasks on this system seems to be
problematic. If I performed well if I only surf the web, it will be overkill
for system like this just to surf the web, wouldn't it?. The quicktime
player also causing some memory buffer overflow shutdown itself. I don't
know if upgrading my system to vista was a good choice or not, but it was the
price to pay for being on the edge of new technology. Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44560

Issues emerging while slipstreaming. . .
O.K. - nearly there, however the 'HowTo' in this link (courtesy of Theo):
http://maximumpc.com/2005/01/how_to_slipstre.html
in Step 3. Says:
Open the folder to which you copied your Windows XP CD (C:\xpsetupcd) and
create a subfolder called $OEM$. Then, create a subfolder of $OEM$ called $1
and a subfolder of $1 called drivers. The resulting path should be
C:\xpsetupcd\$OEM$\$1\drivers.
Later, in step 5, this is referenced as:
You'll need to customize the OemPnPDriversPath line by entering the path to
the INF file for your RAID/SATA driver (for instance if your drivers are in
C:\xpsetupcd\i386\$OEM$\$1\drivers\RAID use:
OemPnPDriversPath=drivers\RAID\FastTrack\WinXP).
I tend to think the second version should be correct - any comments?
Also, the text only deals with the driver consisting of only 'one' SYS
file - mine has two, and as I recall, both where listed as (Required) when I
installed the last time. The text also only deals with one instance of the
CPI/VEN_ description, while making a note about inserting all instances
(which I did). There are five - does this mean that I should insert those
five ID's twice, each for the two SYS files?
I hope someone has this in fresh memory - but for these minor
inconsistencies, I am ready to burn!

Just found this on the web.
They are allegedly the MUIs for Vista x86 in several languages.
The only thing I can confirm is that they are Microsoft links, so it can't
be harmful.

conexant audio driver (ATI SB400 southbridge) for vista x64
When will this driver be released? or will they even bother to create one
for vista x64?
I got a gateway 7510gx and no driver for my internal soundcard and modem. I
have to plug in the creative audigy 2zs to get some sound. Tag: WinXP 64 updates Tag: 44506
