You can't install Windows XP Professional x64 from within a 32 bit version
of Windows XP or from 9x versions of Windows such as Windows ME. A clean
install is required, which means you will have format one of the partitions
and install Windows XP Pro x64 on the formatted partition by booting off the
Windows XP Professional x64 CD-ROM. So make sure your BIOS is setup to boot
from your CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, whichever one you are using.

Yes i have formatted hard disk with one partition fat 32 and show me "this
program can´t install on dos" then i formatted again with ntfs partition and
again show me the same message. my bios set up secuence its ok, first cd rom,
second hard disk, thirt floppy drive. when i try to install with the windows
64 cd, the bios ask to me for a system disk and i have to reboot my pc with a
windows setup floppy disk to "see" the dir of my cd rom and when i write
e:\setup.exe on the directory of my windows 64 cd always show me the nasty
message. I try with a other cd of windows 64 (maybe my disk its bad) but is
the same story, please tell me what i´m doing wrong.

I would delete the partition and then recreate it. Don't format. Then run
the Vista installation again. If you get the same error, you may have a
BIOS setting causing this although I haven't run into such a thing.

Correction: Not "Vista", read that "x64." It's been a long night for me
with Vista testing apps. :)

Make sure you've burned the CD as an IMAGE. The CD should be bootable -- if
it isn't, you won't be able to install. Period.
For excellent instructions on how to write an ISO file to a CD correctly, I
recommend:

Re: I Can´t install windows 64 bits by Randy

Do NOT boot to any other OS before x64 Windows. You do NOT run Setup.exe on
the CD. Rather, you put the CD in the drive and turn the computer off. Then
turn it back on and allow it to boot to the x64 CD.

Be sure you have set the boot sequence in BIOS to check the CD drive first.
Also, you may need to allow such booting through advanced security settings
in BIOS, since others can sometimes bypass your system security by booting
to CD.

Setup will then run automatically and install x64 Windows. It will even
re-partition and format your drives for you in the process; no preparation
is required other than backing up your drive's data just in case. It is wise
to allow it to perform a full format in order to check your drive for any
hard errors which might otherwise cause you grief after installation. You
will probaby also want to format the drive as NTFS for its enhanced
security, encryption, and compression capabilities.

If you have done these things and still get prompted to insert a system disk
at boot time, the CD you're using is either defective or was not prepared
correctly.
