    - 64 bit printer driver installation on 32 bit server Hi, I have just taken delivery of 100+ workstations with Windows XP x64 installed. These workstations will connect to an HP Color LaserJet 5550dn printer via my 32 bit Windows Server 2003 Print server. I have a native 32 bit driver installed on this server but wish to add an additional 64 bit driver for the new workstations to download via "Point and Print". I have downloaded the 64 bit PCL6 driver for this printer from HP.com but when I attempt to add this driver to the shared printer on the print server, I receive the following error: "The specified location does not contain the driver HP Color LaserJet PCL 6 for the requested architecture" I have also tried adding the driver in the 'Server Properties' dialogue box. When I have selected the driver, the wizard prompts me to insert a Windows Server 2003 x64 CD and locate ntprint.inf within the amd64 folder. When I browse to this location and click OK, the dialogue box prompts again for the same location. No error message is presented. Anybody seen this before? Any ideas for a solution?     - End of trial - need files from desktop Hi, I wopnder if you guys can help me out of a hole! My evaluation period has just expired. I have ordered a new copy of xp64, its going to take 3 days to arrive. So how do I get hold of my data on my desktop in the mean time, it wasnt a shared file. Any ideas? I can fire up the machine, and it gives the message that its expired, if I do not press ok and leave this message I can access my shared files via another machine on my network, but I also need access to the files I didnt share on the desktop (about 8gb of data).     - auto recovery messed up I was working with mini drive, saving as I went along. The computer froze and I had to reboot. The file vanished from the USB mini drive. I went to my C drive and found the file in auto recovery but when I opened it most was all question marks with about 10% of the written text.     - win XP x64 Boot Failure and unable to enter Recovery Console Today my computer booted up and was having trouble initialising NOD32 Totally inresponsive... So I resetted the computer but when he restarted he gave me this error: Windows Could Not Start Because the Following File Is Missing or Corrupt \Windows\System32\Config\System You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM This is also the case when I try to run Windows in safe mode. Now I've did some searching and saw the solution was in the Windows Recovery Console so I put in the CD and entered the RC. But after I put in my selection of witch windows folder I want to "use" I got the following Blue Screen of Death saying: ISTRY_ERROR Technical information: *** STOP: 0x00000051 (0x0000000000000001, 0xFFFFFA80003EC010, 0x00000000005F5000, 0x00000000000001D6) The same BSD appears when I try to install windows again. When the installation looks if another version of windows has been installed. My setup: Windows XP x64 bit Edition (student license) Intel RAID 0 Configuration of 2 250GB Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Asus P5W DH Deluxe motherboard Because of the RAID setup I can't install windows on a different drive. Nor can I access anything on the drive because I can't get access to the console. I have a different windows x64 install dvd but my RAID drivers aren't slipstreamed into that one so it doesn't even recognize my RAID array. Now my question is: Does anybody know a way to access the recovery console (by correcting/ circumventing the BSD?) I've got some data on my drives witch I wrather not destroy, right now I can't even destroy it unless I destroy the RAID array...     - Control Panel Shortcuts Hi, I have Windows XP Pro X64, SATA. I have an all-in-one printer/fax/scanner. In order to access the scanner, I have to go into Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras > Scanner. Since I scan a lot of documents, I'd like to put a shortcut of this utility onto my desktop.     - SP2 install failure Whenever I try to install the x64 pro SP2 update, I receive an "Access is denied" message, and everything has to be uninstalled. The problem I am having is described in this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148 However I am having problems with the verbose logging of the setup, described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906485 Whenever I set the LogLevel entry to 0000ffff as instructed, and I have tried this on several occassions, it resets itsself during the SP2 setup and I am none the wiser as to which registry entry is causing the problem. Also the setupapi.log file doesn't increase in size at all after applying the registry change, and no further information is displayed to when LogLevels was set to 0.     - AMD Agesa - what sort of critter is this? Hi, I just found a BIOS update to my MB (Asus M2N32). It lists support for Agesa and I managed to find info that indicates this is about integrating some sort of BIOS plug-in technology when developing new BIOS code - can anybody here make a guess (educated or not) if this will be usefull to me or to my machine? I intend to flash it anyway since there is enhanced memory support as well, I just don't like putting things in there that I don't know what it's there for. Tony. . .     - major X64 boot problem i recently transplanted my rig into a new Silverstone TJ09 case.... (heh its awesome), all went well except now every 4 out of 5 boots results in a weird boot problem, when it gets to the black X64 loading screen the hard drive will spin down and spin up, but basically its stuck there and never get to windows. i found out that i actually had a system drive with bad sectors, as well as a flakey ram dim, so replaced both. did fresh format and install of X64. exact same problem. hard drive full-surface scan is fine... tried another format and install, same problem.... its sometimes fine for a few boots - then after a while it happens. usually a few boots after i install nForce4 X64 system drivers and graphics drivers. (but they have worked with this hardware before fine). i have DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert, AMD X24200+, 2x1GB Kingston DDR, XFX 7950GT w/heatpipe, 150GB raptor OS disk, 150GB sata 2nd disk, all temps cool.... i've been trying to fix this for almost a week with the help of another ng and have drawn a blank. the only thing that hass actually changed since the problem is the case... that sounds completely absurd that a case could cause that.... but maybe the mobo was damaged or something...?     - Mouse hook slows down system Hi, Our product makes use of a system wide mouse hook (WH_MOUSE) and a message hook( WH_GETMESSAGE) that are implemented in a DLL. It works well on all 32 bit systems9 (W2K, XP) we are having some problems on XP x64 version. The moment the mouse hook is installed, the system slows down drastically. The CPU usage remains normal ( 99% consumed by System Idle process). I do not understand what is happening or why the system slows down like this? Has anybody experienced anything like this before? I have tried googling to see if anything like this has been reported before, but could not find anything. MSDN says that both for WH_MOUSE both 32 bit and 64 bit hooks might be called. Could this be causing this slowdown? We are using #pragma data_seg to share data between the DLL instances.     - Vista 64 and Dual tuners So I build my new pc and decided since 64 bit processing is the nest step I would try it in Vista, mistake, hopefully not. So my problem is that I can not get the hauppauge 500 mce tuner card to work with Vista even though it is Vista compatable both 32 and 64 bit. My specs are EVGA 590SLI MB, EVGA 7950 GTX video card, 4 gigs of Corsair extreme pc6400, and an AMD 5600 Dual core. I have tried the video card on a pc running XP Media Center works great, I even installed XP Media Center on the pc as mentioned above and the tuner card works great. I then wiped clean the hard drive using dban, which took 10 hours and did another clean install of vista and it still does not work. Any body have any advice or tips before I blow another hundred bucks on Windows support. One other thing if I reboot a couple of times I can get the tuner to work for a bit, but soon as it comes out of screen saver it is dead again. Tag: Thunker not working Tag: 48530

    - My computer will not start properly Hi I hope you can give me some idea as to what is wrong with my computer. First of all my specs. Jetway motherboard, AMD 64bit processor, 200mb sata Maxtor drive, DVD drive and CD drive, 1 GB of ram. On board ATI Radeon Xpress 200. Using Windows XP Pro 64bit. I have been using the computer for at least 18 months with no problems have a virus program running al the time (Avast). Then a week ago the computer just shut down well viewing pictures and then went in to a constant re-boot. Tried all ways of trying to cure the problem by looking on the internet for solutions using my laptop. After days of trying decided to re-install windows. It would not let me do even though I tried 3 times but it was no good. So I then used Active Kill and completely wiped the hard drive. Put the windows cd in and it started to load. Used F6 to load the sata drivers and was able to install windows to completion. I then installed only a small amount of programs to enable me to download mail. Went to bed a happy bunny. Next morning switched th computer on and guess what it started it's same problem, would not load properly cam up with various errors to many to mention and this time another interesting thing happened the cd woul not inithialise properly it just kept on trying to go through it start process. It did boot eventuly but it was not long before the same thing happened again. Went through the whole procedure again of kill, format and re-install but only to get the same problems. I have know idea if it is the hard drive, power supply, motherboard memory or the operating system. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing me all this hassle?     - iexplore.exe Application Error Hello. When I use the Internet on my computer, several times I receive an Application Error when I close out the page I am on. It is called: CwndSessionMonitor: iexplore.exe - Application Error The instruction at "0x6600accc" referenced memory at "0x66000acc". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. I tried to type it like it shows up but this is close enough. I have run scans, troublshoot and cleaned my computer and of course rebooted. I still continue to get this message when I use the Internet and am closing a web page. Please help me fix this application error or stop it from returning. I am using XP Professional at home.     - Vista x64/GeForce 7900 GT Random Crash... I am running Windows Vista Home Premium x64, an Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT and I have an Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard. I have been having some major issues with all of these 3 (Vista/Nvidia/A8N32). When I install the Nvidia drivers for Windows Vista x64, I get random lock-ups. I will be either playing a game, listening to music or surfing the net when my computer will just freeze. This is totally random. My computer might freeze within 5 minutes of start up or might freeze within 5 hours of start up. I had days where my computer will not freeze at all and other days where it would freeze several times a day. It is totally random. I have been running all the latest nvidia drivers that have been released every month. If I use the Microsoft Nvidia Drivers (the driver that is auto installed when Vista is installed), my computer does not freeze randomly. However, when my computer does to sleep and wakes up, I get all these strange lines on my screen and I am forced to reboot. Also whenever I play a game and turn on Anti-Analzing mode, I also get strange lines on my screen. But if I do not go to sleep or turn on Anti-Analzing, my computer works fine and does not freeze at all. I am not overclocking or anything of that nature. So I dunno what to do. I donâ??t know what else to try. Any suggestions? I am tired of playing around and I am considering getting a GeForce 8800 series card but I am worried I might experience the same effect that I am going through right now.     - XP x64 Recovery Console I had bought the OEM version of XP x64 and installed it some time ago. The install disk got badly scratched (my fault but bad packaging) and will no longer boot so I can't get to the recovery console from the CD. I have now bought the non-OEM version of XP x64 and will install that soon. It apparently has SP2 slipstreamed. Will I be able to install the recovery console to the HD? It would be much easier.     - X64Pro becomes unstable w open office I thought I would share this experience with you all since it took me a while to discover the problem. I have been using Open Office for months with no problem. Suddenly I could no longer open existing files or create new ones. It would go into a file recovery mode, recover a bogus file, send an error message to OO and start all over. I un-installed OO and reinstalled it with no change. I did a complete cleanup including removing directories, old files, registry entries, etc. Then I discovered I could not print from other applications, such as Firefox. I checked the printer icon and I could not access properties. I finally deleted the printer drivers, and reinstalled them. Then I reinstalled OO and it all works again. OO and other word processors need to know what printer is being used before it can format files to match that printer. Unfortunately is intolerant of the printer driver not being there and goes into this funky mode. I sent them a note. They need to do some defensive programing so that the application still runs without a printer and gives an appropriate error message that makes sense.     - Volume control in toolbar Because this is a ridiculous OS, I had to reinstall it. After that, however, I lost basic volume control in my toobar. When I tried to add it, the program wouldn't let me, instead giving me an error message that said "Volume control has not been installed." MS people told me to ask someone else.     - 64-bit print server causing problems with 32-bit workstations Hello, Due to a server move, I recently switched our print server from a 32-bit server to a AMD64 server. On some of the workstations now, we are unable to view the printer properties. I only get a message "Printer Properties can not be displayed. Operation could not be completed." The workstations this is happening on are the Windows 2000 computers, the XP computers work correctly. I was able to locate MS KB Article 908786, which describes this problem exactly. The problem is that the article says the problem occurs on Windows 2003, XP and 2000, but then provides resolutions (sort of) for Windows 2003 and XP only. It doesn't give any suggestions for Windows 2000 computers. All of the Windows 2000 computers are service pack 4 and updated with the most recent updates. We cannot update them to Windows XP as we are a school that relies heavily on donated computers and use the MS FreshStart program for our OS (they don't currently offer XP for the FreshStart program). We don't have the budget to purchase new OSes for all the computers. As the old server is being moved to a different campus, the only server we have available is the 64-bit one (and a workstation that has Windows Server 2003 installed on it, but it isn't capable of handling the extra burden (no matter how small is it) of being a print server). Does any one know of any hotfixes or patches or suggestions that I can try that will allow this print server to serve the needs of our old computers? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.     - How to install Xp Pro x64 using MSDN DVD packs. Hi! I just bought a new Campaq Presario V3149 AU with XP Media Center 2005 Installed. It has an AMD Turion 64 X2 processor. I need to use it for my development and also have MSDN subscription DVDs available with me. My question is i need to install Win XP pro x64 version on the laptop. How do I go about it? The MSDN DVD available with me (EN_OS_XP_2428.8) contains dump of 64Bit-x64 XP Pro software. But when i try to install it through the MSDN DVD available it does not take the x64 key during installation but instead is taking the 32-bit version's key. As I read through various articles, it seems that installing the x64 version is not the same as for 32 bit versions. Can someone help me out as to how to install the x64 bit version?     - Active X Hello all I have just reinstalled windows xp pro x64 edition back on my machine, it installs fine, asks me to activate windows, which always works, and alows me to download and install all the updates and sp2 . But the problem I am Having is when i go to download anything from microsoft for example defender x64 or media player x64 it fails on a active x problem then tells me that my windows is not activated, i then use there online validation to check, and that fails as well, even though it has activated, i have even checked the activation on the machine and that tells me it has activated Now i have been through there solutions and changed various settings, on there help pages regarding active x problems, i have tried reinstalling windows well over 5 times, even used another machine to totally clean and hard format, have used the full format option before installing, but i am still having problems. One set has memory timings of 5-5-5-15 and the other 5-5-5-18 and I could save myself around Â£45 (~$90) by going for the slightly slower timings.     - Update history I had a driver that I installed myself, and the driver was still on the download list in the vista x64 update list when I clicked on check for updates. I thought it was going to update the existing driver I had installed, but it was left over from when it was not installed. I guess that you must check for udates again after instaling drivers or software to avoid this. Does anyone know of a way to delete failed download entries in the download history list in vista x64?     - 64-bit dual core: vista business x64 or XP Pro x64? Hi! I'm having a hard time understanding the different capabilities of the various Windows versions for 64-bit support. I have a license for both XP Pro x64 and Vista business x64. Which utilizes a dual- core x64 processor better? Do applications have to be specifically written to utilize a dual-core x64-bit OS in both XP and Vista? I'm thinking Vista is better at uilizing my CPU's full capabilities despite whether the app is written for x32 or x64, am I right? Like, maybe Vista has drivers that spread the processing across both cores, and XP doesn't?     - Cannot access control panel or Welcome Centre?? I have just finished installing Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit edition on my newly built PC. However, I can no longer access the control panel or welcome centre program as when I click on them nothing happens. Well I can't get Acrobat 8.1 to work on Vista64 (can't find resource files)
so I installed Scan Soft PDF Converter 4 and I'm getting the following
message "Thunker 32 to 64 bit APIs not responding".

Any advice on how to get my Thunker to start responding?

This is a factory installation of Vista64 on a new computer.
