Unlocker for x64?
Unlocker is a freeware that detects which process is holding the file
and closes the handle so that the file can be deleted.
I have just installed in on Windows Vista 64bit versin, but it didn't
work.
There was no Unlocker for 64bit Windows as fat as I have searched.
Is there any alternative? Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 50080

I Have Vista Home Premium 64bit
I Have Vista Home Premium 64bit installed with sky wireless broadband working
perfectly, if you have a 32 bit os system, and you have the maximum amount of
ram used up, youv'e effectively used up the full capacity that the operating
system can handle, if you want to put more than 4 MB of memory onto your
motherboard, on a 32 bit system, the operating system will NOT read >4MB ram.
You will have to (youv'e then got NO ALTERNATIVE) but to upgrade your
motherboard and oerating system to 64Bit compatability.
The Gigabyte M55plus-sg3 (rev: 2.1) motherboard will read up to 16MB DDR2
Ram Max, so this motherboard can support any operating system on the market.

Newbie to 64bit installation on AMD Athlon64 x2 dual core 5400+ 2.8 Ghz
Hi there,
I am newbie for 64bit OS installation...so little retarded anyone can call

I have new system Asus M2A-VM HDMI motherboard with Ahtlon64 x2 dual core

1. Windows 2003 ent server 32bit installation OK
2. PROBLEM with Windows 2003 Ent server 64BIT or any 64bit OS installation:
I have a CD with Windows 2003 64bit Ent server edition (I created the image
from original W2K3 64 Ent Server CD and burned the image to CD-R)
I inserted the W2K3 64bit to the CD/DVD Rom drive to boot, the CD/DVD Rom
flashes several times to read the media CD and then there is a blinking
cursor with black background...!
Do I miss anything or I have to use the original W2K3 64 Ent installation CD
to boot? (I suspect that the image was created under 32 bit OS and burned to
CD-R under 32bit might not be created correct!)
Please advise!

Driver mismanaging system pte
Hello Everyone
Last night I installed X64 XP PRO service pack 2 after I rebooted
the machine I got the BSOD with the above warning and happened
again when it rebooted. The only thing I have changed is my video
card it was a ATI powercolor X1600Pro but now is a Gigabyte 8600GT
silent pipe (no fan) with the latest drivers from nvidia
I went into safe mode and deleted the drivers etc for the video card at
least it
did not crash I then installed a previous version of the drivers which is ok
but
what does the above error mean?
I searched microsofts knowledge base and got zip, did service pack 2 mess up
my video drivers? any ideas folks?????
BTW anyone know the normal operating temperatures of this card?
Under XP Pro 32bit it runs very hot when playing a game, you can hardly
touch it.

Cookies and IE Privacy Keeper?
I dual booted between XP and Vista Ultimate 64 for a very long time,
now moving hard drives around has caused me to do a fresh install of
Vista 64 on the new hard drive and I've got a weird problem....
My only version of Vista ran IE Privacy Keeper and it worked with no
problems, the new install of Vista does not.
I'm unable to use the "Keep Selected Cookies" feature because my old
Vista install kept Cookies in:
Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies
and the new install keeps Cookies in:
Users\(user name)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies\Low
Naturally, IE Privacy Keeper won't show cookies and changing the
Locations section in IE Privacy Keeper doesn't fix the problem, when I
click on the "View" link after the "Keep Selected Cookies" link (on the
IE tab) I still see the \Cookies folder rather than the \Cookies\Low
folder. Modifying the settings.iepk file doesn't seem to help either.
Anyone know what's going on? Why does one install of Vista keep
cookies in a different folder than a later install does? Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 50031

Cost for WinXP 64 Pro
I D/L'd the evaluation version, burnt the CD, installed XP Pro 64 on a new
SATA HDD - found all the 64-bit drivers, did the SP2 and other updates from
Windows Update. Very few problems. (I can even see ALL 4 GB of my RAM
now!!!!) It's a pretty tight instalation at this point (no performance
issues; no yellow exclamation points in Device Manager, etc.).
I am not a business, corporate, education or government user - I am one of
those "enthusiasts" who likes to futz with software and hardware.
My question is: what happens after the 120-day evaluation period? The
Microsoft web site doesn't make that clear. If I'll be offered the
opportunity to buy a license at that time, then a) how much will it be; and
b) how will this opportunity manifest itself? Will my computer just begin to
smoke on the 121st day? Will I be given a message upon boot-up on day 121 to
buy or delete?
The real question is: how much does a single license cost for the
non-institutional, "enthusiast" user? I can't find this info anywhere on the
MS web site, and I'd like to know in advance of the 120-dat witching hour.
Thanks. Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 50010

I recently uninstalled Nero's "Home Essentials" program and used their

deleting the folder does nothing; it respawns every time I start up my

I've even tried using Abexo's registry cleaner, but I'm afraid I may have to
go into the registry manually and clean it out that way to fully get rid of

Conexant Audio and Modem driver(Vista x64) for Gateway Laptop 7510gx is finally found!
All,
I've been using window vista 64bits almost a year now on this particular
laptop and unable to find the audio driver for it. Well Today, I finally
found it on HP website for one of their laptop and it works with this
gateway laptop, but need manual installation and here's how:
1. Download and unzip this file
http://www.canixs.com/vista64/Conexant64.zip which including audio and modem
drivers folders
2. In the Device manager, right click the device to install and choose
pick device driver from the list, scroll through the lists and choose
Multimedia audio device and click on "have disk", then direct it to the
extract folder. It will give you the warning about compatible issue but just
click OK and will install fine, then reboot the system. Do the same thing
for Modem.
That was the only way to get it installed and worked. Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49998
I.E. 7.0 on XP x64 - ctfmon.exe
How do I stop I.E.7 from reloading ctfmon.exe.
I am running XP x64 - I.E. 7.0 - 32bit version.
On the advanced tab I have unchecked "Always use Clear Type for HTML *"
and restarted the browser.
I have unregistered the .dlls using the run commands
"Regsvr32.exe /u msimtf.dll"
"Regsvr32.exe /u Msctf.dll"
I do not have "Alternative Use Input" installed with any Office Programs
In Regional and Language Options>Languages>Details>Settings - only the
keyboard service is installed.
I open I..E.. right click on a link and open in new tab or window and it
comes back on - reinserts itself into HKCU registry
and then causes pages to hang and the browser will not close - until I kill
the process....which is always a child of I.E.7.
For the times when I do get I.E.7 to close then ctfmon.exe hangs - restart
I.E.7 and it reopens with a second instance.
ctfmon.exe has always been a problem since its inception
Can someone please tell me how to kill it without trashing my system. This
would be greatly appreciated. Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49996

I was wondering if anyone could point me to information or give their

Currently we have (7) 32-bit TS2k3 servers in WLB cluster with about 300

consolidate those onto 1 or 2 64bit VS05R2 machines with lots of memory.

32-bit version of IE 6.0
Does anyone know how I can get the 32-bit version of IE to run with the 64
bit. I have a huge problem with Adobe Acrobat running a 32-bit activeX on

machines were suppose to come bundled but they did not. Here is what I found
on the adobe website so you will understand my issue in greater detail.
-- Cannot open PDF within Internet Explorer 64-bit version
Internet Explorer 64-bit and 32-bit versions are both bundled with Windows
XP 64-bit and Windows Server 2003 x64 systems. Adobe Acrobat 7.0 and Acrobat
3D can open PDF files inside the browser window only if you use the 32-bit
version of Internet Explorer. Acrobat installs a 32-bit ActiveX control
(pdf.ocx) that enables Acrobat to open PDF files within Internet Explorer;
the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer 6 does not support 32-bit ActiveX
controls.
If the browser is Internet Explorer 64-bit, then PDF files open in the
stand-alone Acrobat application, not inside the browser window.
To open PDF files in the browser window, use the 32-bit version of Internet
Explorer 6.
To use the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer from the Start menu:
1. Select Start.
2. Select Programs.
3. Select Internet Explorer (32-Bit).
To use the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer from the Run window:
1. Select Start.
2. Select Run.
3. Type the following line, where C is the drive letter on which Internet
Explorer is installed: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\Iexplore.exe
4. Click OK. Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49977
Slow copying of files
We have a problem copying files from Windows Server 2003 64-bit to our local
desktops running Windows XP. For a large number of the desktops, a file copy
of 60 Mb from the server to the local drive can take about 30 minutes to
complete. For other desktops of the same OS, the same file can be copied in
about 5 seconds. For the ones the copy slowly, they can copy that same file
from a Windows 2003 32-bit server or another desktop in 5 seconds. We have
even moved PCs around to swap the network ports used and the problem follows
the PC. We have standardized our desktop and server hardware so the problem
should point to something in the software. There is something fouling up the
communications between some of our Windows XPs and Windows 2003 64-bit and we
are running out of ideas as to what to check. Any tips on what to look at? Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49962

problems with 'manage your server'
Hi everyone,
I have a windows 2003 server sp2, everything was working fine, and then,
right on the middle of opening my regedit32, we had a power failure. the
server was shuttingdown and restarting continuously, finally i could get to
the last good known configuration and could access my server.
I've been checking settings and testing it and found out these issues
1.- when i open the 'manage your server' screen, and i select 'add/remove a
role' i got this mesage:
"Windows cannot find the file or page you requested
(%WinDir%\system32\cys.exe /skipwelcome) Press F5 to refresh the manage your
server page and then lick the link again"
I can manually go to \windows\system32\ and run cys.exe and i get to the
server wizard without any problem.
2.- If i select the 'manager your file server"' i got the same error just
with different filename, " FS.msc"
in this case, if i go to \windows\system32 and run FS.msc, first i got a
screen saying 'cannot find resource file', I click on the OK button and then
another screen shows up saying 'MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and
will unload it' and gives me 2 options, report this error to microsoft and
thenn shut down MMC and the second one, unload the snap-in and continue
running. I click the second option and get another screen 'unhandled
exception in managed code snap-in', FX:{f7da6f14-f244-401a-9259-f015a82057d3}

4GB in WOW
Dear All,
My question is, can I allocate 4GB of physical memory when I run my

memory. I already tried allocating of 3GB by configuring 32bit windows
but I need more. I think it may be possible because in 64bit I don't

My program is a in memory database and need not to use virtual memory

DOSBox 0.71 released today!
DOSBox, the DOS emulator that many in this NG use for running 16-bit apps,
has had a new release today.
This is what they say about this release:
Quote
A bugfix release this time, but we couldn't resist adding a few new exciting
features:
Added a new recompiling cpu core which is easier to port!
Added a x86_64 and a mipsel_32 recompiling core.
Fixed hangups on certain platforms after long gameplay of several games.
Fixed several joystick bugs.
Improved cdrom support. (fixes for audio, iso and detection.)
Improved SVGA and VESA. (detection and display)
Fixed a few textmodes and improved ansi emulation a bit.
Fixed pcspeaker and certain types of soundeffects.
Added undocumented mousebackdoor.
Made mount and imgmount a bit easier to use. (ioctl by default, support
for ~ and ~username, auto size guessing for images)
Fix a few compilation problems on various hosts and a general code
cleanup.
Several small fixes that improve compatibility.
The compatibility should be the same as 0.70 aside from the games we fixed

Can't wait?

Robocopy & W2K3 R2 x64
Hey all,
In past we've used Robocopy to replicate data for High Availability of our data on some web servers. We recently purchased new server to replace some older ones and these boxes run W2K3 x64. The issue, as we found out recently, is that Robocopy doesn't work on x64.
Does Microsoft have a solution for this scenario and/or is there an alternate solution that will run on W2K3 x64 that will meet our needs? Please let me know as we need to move forward with implementing these new boxes.

USB floppy during installation
I was able to (apparently) successfully slipstream drivers for my Intel
82801HEM/HBM controller into an XP64 CD so that it completed both the text
and gui portion of setup, but it won't boot the operating system, resulting
in an 0x0000007B hard drive error. I can't seem to work the problem out.
I had to slipstream the drivers because I have a laptop and there is no
floppy drive, so the F6 driver route wasn't available. So I'm left guessing
if I modified the setup scripts correctly and included all of the divers,
etc. that I need.
Actually, i do have a USB floppy, but that apparently isn't available during
nstallation so that it isn't recognized as a drive. Is it possible to get the
appropriate USB and floppy drivers loaded into setup before reaching the
floppy request so that setup can read the floppy and handle all of the
detaiils?

"This copy did not pass genuine validation"Please help!
In addition to my original question, here is a little more information. I
hope it's helps. I'm useing Windows XP Professional SP1 ,?is that the same as
Windows 2000? And even if it is the same It's still an issue on my computer
when on Microsoft Download.com ,in order to update to SP2 or even Vista and
other essential updates that I need to have a validated copy of Windows, and
it states that "This copy did not pass genuine validation" I do not have any
software for this computer. Can someone please help me? Thank you again for
your time and help. Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49840
New XP64 installation hangs after/at acpitabl.dat
I'm installing a relatively old copy of XP64 (June 2006) for dual boot on a
new (Sony VGN-FZ180E/B) laptop. The OS doesn't have a fraction of the drivers
needed for all of the new hardware, but I figured I could at least get it
installed and booting and work on drivers one peice of hardware at a time. I
thought that my only signifcant issue was going to be the absence of SATA
drivers - especially since I can't load them from a floppy. But I was able to
slipstream the appropriate driver and script updates so that XP successfully
completed all text and gui portions of the installation - but it won't boot.
Normal installation flashes a VERY brief blue screen after the splash screen
and reboots the machine. Booting Safe Mode with Command Prompt does the same
shortly after reaching acpitable.dat. I really can't read any of the text
because it goes by so fast.
The original Vista partition boots perfectly, so I can and have searched the
XP partition extensively for log files, etc. which might contain any boot
information, but nothing is being updated.
If anyone could point me at one or more known soutions to possible problems
I'd really appreciate it. Additionally, if someone could help me figure out
how to get logging information to track down the culprit or culprits I'd
really appreciate that as well.
Thanks... Tag: Thank you for the reminder... Tag: 49834
