IIS Question - ASP.NET 2.0
Below is a message I posted to the Windows general discussion group before
being forwarded here... --How do I get the system (Internet Information
Services) to recognize and run
ASP.NET 2.0 pages?
I just installed Visual Studio 2005 and wanted to get cracking on learning
the dang thing for web development, and lo -- while IIS will open pages such
as 'iisstart.htm' and 'welcome.html', it will say it can't find files in the
same directory such as DEFAULT.ASPX seemingly because they have an ASPX
extension.
My best guess is it has something to do with adding a MIME type, but I don't
know enough yet. Anyone want to clue me in?
I'm running x64 edition of windows, with 64-bit version of .NET 2.0.

Internet Explorer - Stays in background or stops responding
Hi
I installed XP x64 edition on November 1st and have had this problem ever
since:
Internet Explorer often either:
(1) Freezes up entirely, or more often
(2) Goes in the background behind all other windows and there is no way to
bring it to the front.
Not sure of 32-bit or 64-bit internet explorer is running in each situation,
but I know most recently when I terminated a frozen internet explorer, task
manager's process tab referred to it as "IEXPLORE.EXE *32" so I presume it
was the 32-bit version in *that* situation.
Either Advice or shared horror stories are welcome.
Thanks

stop window from pooing up when executable fails
Hi,
We have a executable....
and when it fails for some crazy errors, windows pops up a dialog box with
OK button.
we need to stop this dialog box, since this is a web app, and we just want
it to crash.
1. How do I get windows to stop throwing the dialog box?
2. Is it possible to get windows to write the error to some log,
automatically (before crashing)?
Any help is very much appreciated

Drawbacks of using x64
Here is a microsoft document (word, wordpad) that outlines the omissions
from microsoft, mostly due to 64-bit incompatibility, of using x64.
So if you like all your bells and whistles (OE spell checking, WMP10 mini
player mode, Remote Assistance w/MSN Messenger, etc.), x64 may not be for
you at this time.
Probably good reading for a lot of newbies and fence sitters.

quick basic rundown. hey I have had x64 set up for several months and
mostly it has worked fine. my system recently crashed after I did a
win update and nvidia firmware. I get a blue screen o death with a ton
of stuff written on it but it goes away too fast to read any of it. I
decided to add an old install of xp (home) i had from an old computer
to do some diagnostic trials. The os are each installed on the IDE
drives. I think i can get the os problem figured out. My real issue
is that I can't get my two SATA drives to be work under the xp home
install. They are seen correctly in device manager but I cannot get
access to them. MY entire music and movie collections are on them and
I am curious as to why I can't get at them. In disk management they
are listed as disk 2 and 3 but they have ! on the icon and status is

Missing DVD drive in My Computer and device manager

The DVD writer (HP 635d) went missing in My Computer and in device manager,

Was told my upper and lower filters in registry were corrupt, with show how
to correct it. Needles to say it didn't work.

explorer command line
Hi,
I saw on this newsgroup that you have to use:
%SystemRoot%\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate
In order to have access to the shell extension for 32 bits application.
This works fine, but the `/separate' option cannot be combined with the /e
option. Is there another way so that explorer is launched with the Folders
on the left?

Sata Raid Installation Issue
My motherboard is the A8N-SLI Deluxe with the AMD Athlon 64 3200+ CPU. I am
running two Seagate Serial ATA drives set as Raid 0 (stripping). I have
successfully installed Windows XP Pro (32 bit) on this system using the 32
bit raid drivers for both the Silicon Image and NVidia nforce 4 Sata Raid
controllers. I run into the same problem trying to install Windows XP Pro x64
bit regardless of which sata raid controller I use to try to install it. I
have upgraded my bios to the latest release and have also downloaded and
tried the latest 64 bit raid drivers for both Silicon Image and Nvidia
Nforce. I press F6 on installation startup and succesfully get both drivers
for both controllers installed at the point in installation where you hit "S"
to select the driver from disk. After installation successfully copies some
files from the installation CD to the stripped sata drives, it attempts to
read something from the disk and states that the data on the disc may be
corrupt. I have tried serveral copies of the driver files in several
versions. I am at a complete loss. The same error happens for each controller
after successfully copying some of the files to the drives. Help!? Tag: Texas Instruments drivers Tag: 20822
SUSPECTED WinXP64 BUG:offline files.
in WinXP64. Offlining (User R) files or folder will remain in cache despite
unmarking files or folder to be available offline.
only reproducable in XP64. Because of this bug the cache will continue to
grow and grow with files "temporariliy available offline" that cannot be
removed. Even if the original files have been deleted or the server no
longer exists, syncronizing will not remove the files from the CSC.

computer clock--losing time
In the past few weeks my computer clock has been losing time...maybe a minute
or two a week until suddenly I notice when I start being late for activities

depend on my computer clock, though........which isn't working well right
now. Anyone know WHY the computer clock might be slowing down? Never had it
happen with other computers. This is an XP home os...

AVG Plus Firewall Edition, Error messages in Program log
Hello
I´m trying the AVG Plus Firewall Edition 7.1 for winxp x64 and every
time I startup my computer I have two error messages in the Program log
in the computer management. The errors is;
005-11-22 12:29:48,890 CANONJON [001424:001440] ERROR 000
AVG7.FW.FwService.FwKernel FDWin2k:: Could not start Packet log, error

and
2005-11-22 12:29:52,328 CANONJON [001424:001440] ERROR 000
AVG7.FW.FwService.FwKernel Failed to create FW interface, code: 1784
I know that the firewall isn´t 100% perfect but it can block everything
that´s not x64 from connecting to the internet. When I look at services
everything with AVG is automatic and has started.
Is there someone who knows why this happens? There are no error
messages while the computer is running. Only this two when I start or
restart the comupter. It´s a bit annoying not to know if the firewall
is running at all or what.

Print Spoolers
I have Windows 2K3 Server SP1 installed. However, I have a problem with my
spooler. The spooler shutdowns adnormally from time to time. This problem has
been communicated to Microsoft and their advise is to what for the next
release as they have a solution for that problem. Release date at present is
unknown.
As a possible workaround, I would like to create a batch file that would
allow an print operator to execute. All I want to do is to shutdown and
restart spooler.

Hosting a User Control in x64 with IE Crash Detection
This my great problem. under
windows server 2000, 2003 IE can show a User Control. This control is
a simple Form User Control developed by C#. It just contains a button and
a label . When you click button the label will show some text.
But under x64 the IE does not show the User Control, only a blank frame.
Is it because IE Crach Detection refuses to show that control? where can
I configure it ?

HOW TO: Windows Media Connect on x64 (Xbox 360 owners, listen up!)
Here's some instructions provided in the Windows Media newsgroup for
installing Windows Media Connect on x64. If you want your Xbox 360 to
stream music off your PC, you'll need this software. It's totally,
way-out-of-left-field unsupported, so don't blame me or MS if this happens
to blow up your computer, set fire to your lawn, mutate your kids, etc..
However, it worked for me, so I'll pass it along to everyone else here.
Below is the message, quoted in its entirety, and someone should commend
this guy for hooking us up. -KML
Of course, this is completly unsupported (and totally useful) so you didn't
hear it from me. You'll need wmccds.exe, wmcsci.dll, and wmccfg.exe from
out
of the setup package. You should be able to get it by downloading the setup
package and opening it up with winzip and just extracting the files. For
the
rest of this you'll need to be logged in as an adiminstrator.
1. Create an install directory. Something like c:\program
files(x86)\Windows Media Connect 2
2. Copy wmccds.exe, wmcsci.dll, and wmccdf.exe to your install directory.
3. Open a 32bit command window and navigate to your install directory.
4. Run "regsvr32 wmcsci.dll"
5. Run "wmccds.exe -installwithfiles"
6. Run wmccfg.exe and complete the "first run wizard"
To uninstall WMC (without removing any actual files)
7. exit wmccfg.exe (not just close to the task bar, but actually exit)
8. run "net stop wmconnectcds" to stop the service.
9. run "regsvr32 -u wmcsci.dll"
I haven't actually tried any of this stuff running under WOW on an x64
system. But that should get you past the setup block.
Hope it works!
