    - MUI's for XP x64 SP2? Hi: Are there new MUI's for XP x64 sp2? I installed - long ago - XP x64 SP1 with its corresponding spanish MUI. A couple of days ago I installed SP2 and the corresponding "incremental SP2" MUI. What happens if I slipstream SP2 onto XP x64 SP1 and create a new installation disk and decide to reinstall everything from scratch?     - Browser stops working but Internet still connected I'm having this problem on a Vista 64 bit machine, but it also happens on a machine using plain old 32-bit XP (though the processor is a single core, AMD 64-bit). I sometimes have problems connecting to websites using the browser. But at the same time, I can still check email and participate in NGs (as I am now). I can download data from financial institutions using Quicken. Instant messenger programs work. So, while the browser has trouble connecting, the Internet connection is obviously still there and working because these other programs show that to be the case. I tried installing the Opera browser, and it can't connect either during these periods either. So it's not just an IE problem. Both the Vista 64 and the XP 32 machines go through the same DSL modem. The Vista machine is connected wirelessly to the DSL modem. Both are using IE7. The Vista machine is using the version that came on the Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM disk. The 32-bit machine is using a version I downloaded several months earlier. While I was in the process of writing this, a box popped up in the corner of my screen telling me that Avast AV has been updated. Usually that box pops up at bootup. But just now the machine had been on for several minutes when it popped up. Once that happened, I figured whatever had been the problem had ended, so I fired up Opera and it connected. (Before anyone says the problem was caused by the AV update, I can assure you that's not the case. The problem happens on two machines and I have that AV only loaded on one. I've also had the AV update on bootup, but then have this connectivity problem show up later.) Two more things: 1) When this problem happens, if I put my cursor over the internet connection icon in the system tray (on the Vista machine), it will show the connection and say "local access only." When I'm not having problems with the browser, it will show "Local and Internet." 2) When this problem occurs, I usually can still access my company's email website. I'm not sure, but I assume my company's email server is in the same city as my home, which is why I can access it. But I can't access any other internet sites. So, I guess my questions are: 1) What is "local access only"? Is it a problem with my ISP? With my DSL modem? 2) And why, when in "local access" mode, can I still get stuff from non-local sources while using Windows Mail, Quicken and instant messenger?     - 64bit print server - no 64bit drivers We have a '03 64bit print server and am trying to add a Toshiba eStudio 35 network printer to the server. There are no 64bit drivers available from Toshiba yet. I tried installing the 32bit drivers via the '03 server mmc and only selecting the 32bit XP, 2000, NT option. I get a "Selected driver must be installed remotely from an x86 Windows XP, 2000, or 2003 Server" at the end of the wizard. I'm using the same method that works with XP 32bit SP2, which I thought was correct for x64 too. I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 Edition - SP2 in a Computer that has a IDE disk with the Operating System and 8 SATAII disks as individual units (that is to say, they are'nt in RAID). The problem is that it does not appear the "Secure Release Hardware" icon for the SATAII disks (the SATAII are Hot Swap).     - Realtek HD Audio Hi People, I was able to get the card to send audio out the Coaxial SPDIF (Digital) port and also the 3.5 mm jacks (Analog) using Windows Media Center 2005 but now since upgrading to 64-bit Vista Ultimate it seems to be one or the other. I need both as the audio to my home theatre is digital where the audio to the rest of my house is analog.     - Installation of xp pro x64 I have previously, successfully installed xp 64 on an amd64 machine. Now, I am attempting to install it on intel core 2.     - Remote Desktop to the Server a crawl after Windows 2003 SP2 Instal Symptoms: After installing Windows 2003 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 64-Bit Edition, remote desktop to the server is at a crawl. Once connected the login screen moves extremely slow. It begins painting the display very slowly. One you login successfully it ends up locking up or disconnecting. Once I uninstalled SP2, using Remote Desktop works perfect. We just got 3 new 64 Bit servers and had this issue with all 3 after installing SP2. On one of the machines I installed a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 32-Bit Edition and installed Windows 2003 SP2 and remoted desktop works great. I believe to have narrowed the issue done to installing SP2 on the 64 bit edition of Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise. I am pretty sure this is a bug after several days of troubleshooting.     - 32-bit Progam Memory Access on 64-bit Vista Adobe just released a statement about their new CS3 programs and Vista 64-bit. They state that the programs run fine on Vista 64-bit as 32-bit programs and that each program can access up to 3 GB of RAM. My computer has 8 GB of RAM. Does that mean the each 32-bit program that is running can access 3 GB or do all programs running have a total access of 3 GB (as per the 32-bit limit)?     - x64 Vista Bluescreen / Total Freeze Hi all, A rather serious problem it would seem. I just got a WD myBook 500 gig external USB2 hd and am trying to back up some files from my desktop with it. I already backed up my laptop no problem, it's running XP, yet every time I try and copy over a large amount of files (say, 100 gigs) or reformat the external HD (not quick, but total reformat) my computer either bluescreens or totally freezes. What's odd is that i can transfer say 30 gigs of data ok but after that it dies. I'm truly stumped here and no one else seems to be having this problem so please please help. But, they also tells us, that they will not support Vista 64 bit version. And... I suppose they also meen, the program cant run in the 32 bit emulation, WOW64. What does the logo meen?     - 64 bit VIsta order? OK, I bought the dowlaod version of Vista from windowsmarketplace or what it is called... I Got the 32 bit version and I want to get the 64 bit version. According to the online documentation they said to go to micirosoft and order the alternate media for 64 bit. The problem is when I try to order it all it allows is 32bit CDs not the 64bit DVD.     - Deleting a partition Hi, When I installed Windows X64, I partitioned my hard drive so that it would have 3 partitions. I now want to delete one of the partitions. I did a Microsoft search and found that I needed to go into Disk Management, right click on the partition, and click delete. I did that but it didn't remove the partition. It's still there but can't be accessed. My computer consists of my C drive where all of my programs are located. The D drive contains files that I use. The E drive was empty and I couldn't fine a use for it, so I want to add D and E to make 1 large partition and not to touch the C drive. I've already backed up everything that's on the D drive.     - 32 bit apps crash right when opened? I just did a clean install of Vista Ultimate RTM x64 3 days ago. Everything worked fine for the first 2-2 and 1/2 days, but after a restart, things started to get weird. Everytime I launch a 32 bit app (IE x64 works, but IE 32 bit does not, as an example.) I have no idea why it would all of a sudden start doing this, I haven't made any changes to the system, it just started after a reboot.     - Vista 64 Freezes I put together a new PC. AMD Athlon 64 3500+, BIOSTAR GeForce6100-M9 mother board. 1 GB ram Vista 64 ver 6.0.6000 . Vista loaded fine. After it was installed I tried playing Spider Solitaire. It worked for 2 or 3 minutes and then the system froze. I had to cycle the power to get it back up. Device manager says everything is OK. The system can run for hours and then freeze or sometimes it freezes almost immediatly. It freezes more often when I play spider. What can I do to trouble shoot this. Or am I just out of luck.     - Vista drive capacity limit Hello, I recently installed Vista Business x64 bit. The hardware is 2 x 160GB Seagate Barracuda on Raid 1 for the OS and 8 x 500GB Seagate Barracuda on Raid 5 via Highpoint 2320 raid card. Anyhow, Vista successfully installed on the 160GB drive. However, when I go to disk management to format the 3.5 terabytes (8 x 500GB) Vista will only see 2 terabytes. I can see the 1.5 terabytes left over but it is grayed out and not accessible. This box is my media file server. What is the drive capacity of Vista? Is it 2 terabytes? I find this hard to believe!     - all internet applications crash at start up I've been using Vista 64bit for a couple months now and yesterday i started up my pc and i noticed that every internet application that i use, doesn't work anymore. Some programs as example: internet explorer 32bit, firefox 32bit, firefox 64bit, utorrent, windows live messenger, windows media player, winamp .... The only program i can use is Internet Explorer 64bit. The last time i use my pc i didn't install/change anything. I have not been able to reset the time - I'm in Denmark and our local DST happened this morning, when the clock was promptly forwarded another hour. I have the router set to recieve a timing signal - it only accepts a signal from the mivrosoft NTP server, at the moment I am a bit confused as how to resolve this predicament, as it doesn't happen often enough to leave any lasting experince.     - MP3 problem New problem. Yesterday MP3's would play with any player I have. Today they won't play on any player. Volume meter shows rises and falls in volume so it would appear that it is reading the files properly, but no sound to the sound card. Convert the mp3 to wav files and they play on any player. Uninstalled and installed newer codec files. No change. Unfortunately there was an update applied between yesterday and today and the Restore Point won't work, as won't the next previous one which was installing the Word PDF converter. Before I go back to where the Network problem was fixed, I thought I would see if anyone here had any better ideas. So far in the 3 weeks I have had Vista64 Ultimate RTM installed it has been an unpleasant experience. RC1 had no problems for me and is still working great on the other computer.     - 64/32 network Has anybody tried to set up a network between computer running WindowsXP x64 and a computer running WindowsXP Home edition ? In my case Internet sharing works fine but I cannot get file and printer sharing to work. Ping between these to computers works OK (address or name) but none sees the other on the network. Strangely enough file and printer sharing between computer with WindowsXP x64 and a 32 bit computer running Linux Ubuntu works OK although WindowsXP 64x also does not show Linux computer on the network.     - HELP PLS! Using Partition Magic 2 Try 2 Install WinXP x64 on Top of XP 32 PLEASE HELP!! Trying for months & give up, retry again etc. OK, I have XP Home 32 originally installed on puter. I Used Partition Magic 8.0 to try installing a 2nd OS (XPx64) on a newly created partition. First partition is 110 GBs my new partition is 30 GBs. Hard-drive 160 GBs. I follow the printed directions & I boot to new partition, it tells me its the wrong disk but when I press any key to boot from CD, all starts well. I get the blue setup screen & it starts installing the various drivers etc & finally gets to a place that informs me that "Windows will now restart" but it never does. It just sits there waiting to reboot or restart. I try restarting manually but it just re-installs drivers until it gets to "Windows will restart" again!! I am going nuts! I contacted Symantic Support but they said I have to have x64 installed first to add XP32 but I have read here & been told that "NO, it's XP 32 first & then u can load a partition with XP 64." So Symantic is misinformed!     - Nero SmartStart, still a "frame" Newer version of Nero (7.8.5.0) has still the same problem as v7.7.5.1 with its Smartstart application. Launch it, and you will only see a "frame". Just the frame of a window but nothing inside, like a transparent window. You can see your desktop through it. Has anybody else this problem? Has anybody a workaround?     - System Files unable to Defrag after SP2 for Xp64 I was doing a clean install and suddenly am having an issue with fragments unable to be defrag'd. The first time we went through it the issue occured in the WOW64 emulator, and thing s we're chugging a little. So I deleted the partition, formatted and installed. Everything looked cool until it was time to install SP2. Then again with the files. This time it was something to the effect of Windows\documentsand settings\SysEvent.Evt. Im sorry, I forgot the exact name on the kitchen table at home and im landlocked at work for another hour or 2. Another file with a reference to IE5(ie5? huh?). So, I guess the true question is there any way to get these files to actually defrag or am I stuck doing a full reinstall because its affected a system file. Performance, appears to have taken a hit but more to the point this is a brand new pristine system. Its been working well for about1.5 months, this tear down and rebuild was more of an exercise for me than anything else until this occured. Will post the file names as soon as I get home. Thanks in advance for any help. :) P.S. The rig: Evga 680i SLI mobo E6600 2.6 Duel Core 4 gig DDR, 800, Duel Channel Raptor X 10K 150 Gig HD 8800GTX X-Fi All except the sound card are out of the box begining of Feb and have been running like a dream, its only during this reinstall these files, unable to be defrag'd, have cropped up. Somone actually said that I should just run the defrag until im blue in the face and it wll get it eventually but I really want to understand what went/is going wrong if possible.     - How to enable write-back disk cache? I'm using XP64 Workstation with 4GB memory installed, and I'm disappointed that its write performance is so poor with large writes. I'm used to testing on Windows Server 2003, where it will happily cache GBs of dirty data and write to disk when it gets a chance. I've tried enabling all the performance options but no dice. When I untick the 'switching off' box in system restore and then select
Apply, no matter what I do, I get the following msg: System Restore
encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or more drives. Re-start
and try again. This I try and get back to square one with the disable sys
restore box automatically ticked. The Settings box is greyed-out at all
times. Thus I am unable to get any sys restore working. HELP! HELP!! Simon
