Unknown Device in Device Manager - how to identify?
In my x64 Device Manager under Other Devices I have an Unknown device (with
the usual yellow question mark).
On the Properities page, General Tab, under Location: on PCI bus. Under
status "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)."
On the Driver Tab, everything is Unknown or Not Available, etc.
On the Details Tab the
Device Instance Id is "ACPI\ATK0110\1010110
Hardware Id is "ATK0110
Several properties are blank
Enumerator is ACPI
Capabilities are "CM_DEVCAP_UNIQUEID" and "CM_DEVCAP_SILENTINSTALL"
Devnode Flags are "DN_HAS_PROBLEM" "DN_DISABLEABLE" "DN_NT_ENUMERATOR"
and "DN_NT_DRIVER"
etc, etc.
I am looking for tips on figuring out how to identify this unknown device so
I can deal with it appropriately. There are no cards in the PCI slots (but
I am aware that the PCI bus supprots many devices).
WinXP Pro x64, AMD Athlon 64 x2, 2GB ram, ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe board, SATA
Hitachi drives (not Raid), GeForce 6800 GT video on PCI Express.
I suspect something like a fan sensor unplugged, but what do I know?
Be happy to have suggestions from all you fine folks. Tag: post delected Tag: 10161

Install Windows XP x64
Hello all,
I just set up a new rig: ASUS A8V Deluxe, AMD 64 3200+, 1 GB Kingston, 80 GB
Seagate SATA, 80 GB Maxtor EIDE, ATI Radeon 9600XT.
I am installing Windows XP x64 on the SATA drive (connected to the VIA
K8T800 Pro Controller). I succesfully used the F6 method to get Windows x64
to recognize the SATA drive using dirvers provided from ASUS. After
selecting the SATA drive and formatting, Windows asks for a "VIA RAID Combo
Driver Diskette" to be inserted in the floppy drive. I have tried what I
thought was the right disk (VIA Hyperion Pro 0.99) to get past this issue,
but this did not work.
I am currently stuck here...I have no idea what to do now.
Also, I should mention that Windows x64 recognizes the SATA drive when I
install x64 on the IDE drive...I was reading/writing data from the SATA
drive. So, the SATA drive works fine.
Please HELP!!!!!
Thanks,

TAP received in France/Europe
Hello,
I'm very pleased to announce the Group, and particularly my fellow
Europeans, that I just received my TAP media this morning.
BTW, my "official" online status still displays the famous message : "Order

Furthermore, my credit card is still not charged at this very moment, LOL !
Thank you very, very, very much Microsoft and Zomax : this is the first time
in my life that I receive a *legal* and *full* software for free ;)

Cannot boot at all; not even safe mode.
Ahoy!
Until upgrading to the full version, 64-bit was working fine (the trial
version, that is). Now that I have obtained the full version of it, it
won't boot up AT ALL! This is really starting to get at me since I have
bought a 250gb HDD dedicated to the x64 platform. I have tried installing
two different copies of x64 (one being my friends copy and the other mine)
onto 1. a partitioned hard drive; 2. a completely different hard drive.
What I don't understand is why the trial version ran fine and the full
version does not even boot! It just simply reboots after I select it from
the boot menu (ie, selecting which version of Windows to run). I have an
AMD 64-bit 3200 processor; 1GB RAM; ATI Radeon X800PRO (overclocked in
Windows 32-bit with ATI Tool); two Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm HDD's
(200gb/250gb); and an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe. I have no idea as to what's going
on. If it helps, I can get it to show a BSOD and write that down to post
here. Can anyone please help me?
Thanks in advance,
JimmY! :D Tag: post delected Tag: 10056

Important Update for European customers awaiting their TAP !
Hi Fellows of the Old World ;)
I just tried the 10-digit number that starts by "94..." with DHL, that Zomax
provided me in their last e-mail, and it appears that my TAP is en route to

XP x6
Iâ??m having a problem get XP x64 to complete its installation.
When the install program restart the second time with Windows XP x64 Pro
logo screen showing, system halts and goes to the Diagnostic Startup Screen,
same screen you get when you hit F8 during normal Windows startup. If you
select Safe Mode, system displays list of files being loaded as usual, but
halts and does a hardware reboot. Any attempt to start windows after that
takes you directly to Diagnostic Startup Screen.
Itâ??s a new system and I installed Windows XP Pro 32 Bit Edition, before
trying to install XP x64, and all hardware test Ok.
Iâ??m using version 6.66 nForce4 SATA Drivers download for nVIDIAâ??s Web Site
for the RAID Installation floppy. RAID Driver floppy created by the CD that
came with ASUS A8N-E motherboard caused the XP x64 Install to crash right
after it read the drivers supplied on the ASUS CD.
My system is includes the following hardware.
(1) Thermaltake Tsunami VA3000 Series case.
(2) Thermaltake Purge Power TWV500W W0057 Power supply.
(3) AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+
(4) ASUS A8N-E Motherboard with BIOS Version 1005.
(5) ASUS Video Graphics card EAX800XL/2DTV/256M/A
(6) 2 MB DDR PC3200 Memory, Corsair TWINX2048-3200PRO, configured as Dual
Channel.
(7) 2 Western Digital 160GB SATA Hard Drive Configured as RAID 0, Drive WD
SATA2 P/N WD1600JS
(8) CD\DVD Drive, Plextor SATA P/N: PX-716SA/SW.
It looks to me like there is a driver problem, but I donâ??t know how to tell
which driver and if I knew the only drivers I have that I can change are the
ones on the RAID Drive floppy. All the rest come form the Windows XP x64
installation CD. One other thing I donâ??t understand is what drivers are
required in Safe Mode that are not required when the installation is in GUI
Display Mode.
Any pointers on how to fined the problem or as to what Iâ??m doing wrong would
be greatly appreciated. Tag: post delected Tag: 10001

Using command line to copy files
Hello,
We have recently migrated many of our websites to a dual AMD Opteron 64
server with Windows 2003 server Standard x64 installed. In the 32-bit
environment the websites were running on before, I was able to move the IIS
logs to another folder to be processed by a website statistics application
(the 32-bit environment was Windows 2003 Server standard). In the 64 bit
environment anytime I try to use a command line untility to copy the IIS logs
I get access denied, yet I can copy and move the files in Windows Explorer.
Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.

Windows XP x64 SATA Drivers
Hello all,
I am building a new computer, and I would like to install Windows XP x64 on
to a SATA hard drive. I know that there are no SATA drivers on WinXP
(32-bit); so, one would have to use a floppy with the drivers during the
install. I would like to know if this is still the case on Windows XP x64 -
do you need SATA drivers for the install, or will Win XP x64 recognize the
SATA drive on its own?
Thanks in advance,

Request for Tips: Intalling Windows x64 on a P4 Prescott
Hi All,
I'm currently attempting to install the Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise
Edition 180-day evaluation on a computer that has a Pentium 4 Prescott CPU
(x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4 GenuineIntel)
The machine is currently running WinXP Pro 32-bit and I created a seperate
NTFS partition ready to receive Windows Server 2003 x64. All partitions on
the machine are NTFS. I set the machine to boot from the Installation CD and
upon booting, I get the error: "Attempting to load an x64 operating system,
however this CPU is not compatible with x64 mode. Please install a 32-bit x86
operating system."
The Pentium 4 Prescott CPU supports EM64T. Could the problem be the BIOS and
if not, what other steps could I take to determine the root of the problem?
Any insight is much appreciated.
Best regards,

Outlook 2003 account configuration fails
On a clean installation of Windows xp x64 and the "typical" Office 2003
installation including Outlook, all programs run fine except Outlook 2003.
The first time calling Outlook it starts creating the outlook data file ...
and fails! I heard rumours that this might be due to the fact that I have 4
GB RAM... but of course I do not want to uninstall my memory because I bought
it on purpose to do CAD. Are there any known work-arounds or chances that
Outlook will get a fix?
Would really be great to be able running Outlook under xp 64...

32-bit games on 64-bit Windows...
Anyone labouring under the impression that Windows XP x64 will run their
games any faster should read these two reviews:
http://www.techgage.com/review.php?id=1434&page=1
http://www.simhq.com/_technology/technology_043b.html
I hope it goes without saying that I am not criticising the OS itself or
those who have chosen to participate in the trial and advance releases.
However it does seem that this release is not as backwards compatible as many
will expect.
It is also somewhat dispiriting to learn that , so far, the only games that
claim to take advantage of Windows XP x64 actually run significantly slower
when put to the test. Hopefully this is merely the result of developer
inexperience. Tag: post delected Tag: 9922
RTM 64-bit Server 2003 NIC issues
This message is about getting a test machine up using RTM Server 2003
64-bit.
Hardware: Asus K8v Deluxe (not the SE version). The on-board ethernet
port worked on a beta version of XP 64-bit (w/hacked driver) and on a
64-bit Linux version. At some point it broke. Drivers would see it but
it would not talk over the wire. I have been using PCI NICs to network
32-bit OS versions ever since.
With RTM Server 2003 out, I'd like to go back to 64-bit.
OS: Server 2003 64-bit version (the currently downloadable bits I
think) "About" shows Version 5.2 (Build 3790.srv03_sp1_rtm.050324-1447
: Service Pack 1)
With above OS, I am unable to find any combination of driver and a
half dozen or so different PCI NICs that work. I re-enabled the broken
onboard interface just to see if the OS would load a driver for it.
Checked Asus's site and installed the latest stuff marked AMD64. No
luck.
Question: Anybody know what brand/model NIC (for PCI bus) I should buy
to make this box work? 10/100 mbs is good.
So far, I haven't seen any indication that this OS release has *any*
network drivers in it. (Device manager, choose from list, network
adaptor = empty list)
I'm aware of the 'decorated inf' issue but rather not hack another
driver/inf. Is there anything out-of-the-box that works?
Suggestions welcomed
Regards,
Mickey. Tag: post delected Tag: 9919
NTLDR Missing
I have recently installed x64, and if i boot without the CD in the drive i
get this message, if i boot with it in the drive, all works as it should.
This may or may not have something to do with the fact that the Boot and
system volumes are on different drives. the boot on a SATA and the system
not. Even if this isnt the problem i would like to re-unite the system and
boot volumes onto the one drive, is this possible?
Any help on these 2 questions would be great, Thanks Tag: post delected Tag: 9905
HELP!! OpenGL woes on WS2003 x64!
Hi all..
I just got my version of Windows Server 2003 x64 finally (I'm a high school
graduate trying to learn the ropes to eventually pursue certifcations..) but
I'm having a problem..
Here is my full system specs:
AMD64 3500+ Socket 939
ABIT AV8 Motherboard
1024 OCZ Platinum Dual Channel RAM (2-2-2-5)
BFG 6800GT OC Video Card (256MB, GeForce4)
Twin WD Raptor 74gb's
So, I just installed it, and I also installed the newest drivers for my
version of Windows Server 2003 x64 from nvidia.com, and it works absolutely
great for the desktop, but it seems my OpenGL programs aren't working!
I've tried various programs that use OpenGL (Quake 1 & 2, other various
OpenGL games/applications) and they all fail to switch from software
rendering into OpenGL mode..
Now, I know that obviously Windows Server is not meant to game on (which is
why I still dual boot 32bit XP) but regardless, OpenGL should be working,
and although gaming isn't the greatest idea, there is no reason why I
shouldn't be able to enjoy a game of classic Quake 2 once and a while when
I'm bored :[
Can someone please give me ANY reccomendations and/or suggestions on what I
should do now? Maybe suggest some more things I can do to see if my
DirectX/OpenGL is functioning, etc..
I'm at a total loss, and I have nothing but respect for all of the good
advice from you professionals, so, THANKS IN ADVANCE! :D

64 bit security and networks
Routing table in the router does not show 64bit architecture for either Win
XP Pro64 or 32 bit. When Win64 bit accesses the win2003 server (32bit) data
can be exchanged only from server to xp 64 bit and not the other way. Server
rejects the request if Win64 tries to store data on the server. This is also
the case with WinXP Pro 32bit is networked to Win64 bit.
Also the network node can not be disabled.
This is interesting in that it appears that a conflict exists between IPv6
and IPv4.
I am wondering if anyone else has similar experiences.
For all of those that are using Canon printers, Canon has informed me that
drivers 964bit) are currently being written for newer versions of printers. Tag: post delected Tag: 9892

Copy files to network...
Hello,
I apologise if this question has been asked before.
I am using a XP-64 and have an issue with copying files. This is what I do:
1) Click My Computer
2) Goto My Networks
3) Add a website address
4) Logon to that site, so now I have an explorer window with the
files/folders etc..
5) I open up my local C:\ window
6) Now I drag/drop a file from C:\window to my network window
7) The file seems to copy fine, until the last 10 seconds are displayed and
the copy dialog box just seems to hang at the this point forever.
Any thoughts here ?

Is there ANY 56kbps modem out there that has a driver which works under XP x64?
By the way, lack of support for 16-bit apps under x64 seems to me to be
virtually criminal given the previous history of backwards compatibility; not
supporting legacy applications should be red-flagged in big capital letters
all over any description of the OS, otherwise it's reasonable to assume that
such support would be provided as usual. Tag: post delected Tag: 9829

x64 trial installs but reboots before the login screen
Here's what I did (late last night):
-> Ran the RAID program using the supplied floppy disk for nForce 3
-> Ran WinXP x64 installer, pressed F6, inserted the floppy when prompted
only to find out that the drivers were 32-bit only
-> Downloaded the 64-bit drivers (which are nForce4) to a new floppy and
used those to get past the RAID setup
-> In the disk partitioning section, the existing IDE drives have already
used c: d: etc - next available drive letter for the RAID was K:
-> Proceeded to run the x64 install, but it complained about a couple of the
files not being able to copy over (I think it was 2 of the SATA driver
files)
-> Rest of the install went fine, although was prompted about drivers not
being certified - answered "yes" to proceed each time.
-> After the install, Windows boots up but shows BSOD before I can log in
and then the PC reboots.
I realise that lots went wrong there, so I have 2 initial questions:
1) How can I get to see that BSOD? It flashes up of a quarter of a second
before the machine resets itself.
2) Is it worth even reading that BSOD or is my install likely to be so
screwed that I should reinstall?
