USB floppy during installation
I was able to (apparently) successfully slipstream drivers for my Intel
82801HEM/HBM controller into an XP64 CD so that it completed both the text
and gui portion of setup, but it won't boot the operating system, resulting
in an 0x0000007B hard drive error. I can't seem to work the problem out.
I had to slipstream the drivers because I have a laptop and there is no
floppy drive, so the F6 driver route wasn't available. So I'm left guessing
if I modified the setup scripts correctly and included all of the divers,
etc. that I need.
Actually, i do have a USB floppy, but that apparently isn't available during
nstallation so that it isn't recognized as a drive. Is it possible to get the
appropriate USB and floppy drivers loaded into setup before reaching the
floppy request so that setup can read the floppy and handle all of the
detaiils?

Memory and 64bit Turion with vista
Just treated myself to a new laptop. it claims to have a 1 gig memory, but
when I check my properties, it only show 766mb. BIOS shows even less at 633.
Have I been duped by Acer, or is this something in Vista (home prem)?
My taskmanager memory is running at 70% with no apps running, v poor

"This copy did not pass genuine validation"Please help!
In addition to my original question, here is a little more information. I
hope it's helps. I'm useing Windows XP Professional SP1 ,?is that the same as
Windows 2000? And even if it is the same It's still an issue on my computer

other essential updates that I need to have a validated copy of Windows, and

New XP64 installation hangs after/at acpitabl.dat
I'm installing a relatively old copy of XP64 (June 2006) for dual boot on a
new (Sony VGN-FZ180E/B) laptop. The OS doesn't have a fraction of the drivers
needed for all of the new hardware, but I figured I could at least get it
installed and booting and work on drivers one peice of hardware at a time. I
thought that my only signifcant issue was going to be the absence of SATA
drivers - especially since I can't load them from a floppy. But I was able to
slipstream the appropriate driver and script updates so that XP successfully
completed all text and gui portions of the installation - but it won't boot.
Normal installation flashes a VERY brief blue screen after the splash screen
and reboots the machine. Booting Safe Mode with Command Prompt does the same
shortly after reaching acpitable.dat. I really can't read any of the text
because it goes by so fast.
The original Vista partition boots perfectly, so I can and have searched the
XP partition extensively for log files, etc. which might contain any boot
information, but nothing is being updated.
If anyone could point me at one or more known soutions to possible problems
I'd really appreciate it. Additionally, if someone could help me figure out
how to get logging information to track down the culprit or culprits I'd
really appreciate that as well.
Thanks... Tag: SpyBot Search&Destroy Beta 1.5.1.13 Tag: 49834

No Hibernate tab in Power Option Properties in XP x64? In PAE mode its not allowed
Hi,
I have Windows XP x64. I would like to be able to hibernate with the
computer this is installed on. When I look in Power Option Properties
there is no Hibernate tab.
I open up a command line window and type:
powercfg /hibernate on
and get the response:
Hibernation failed with the following error: The request is not
supported.
The following items are preventing hibernation on this system.
The system is running in PAE mode, and hibernation is not
allowed in PAE

Is there some way I can use a different mode other than PAE mode so I
can Hibernate this machine. I have 4Gb ram and a core duo processor.
This machine has an LSI megaRAID PCI card that has a battery on it to
keep it from losing data in a power cut could the drivers from this
make the machine go into PAE mode?
Thanks for any advice. Tag: SpyBot Search&Destroy Beta 1.5.1.13 Tag: 49797

2. I click on the new e-mail, a sound is supposed to play I guess, but it
never plays.
3. Outlook Express Hangs. (white screen)

6. I terminate explorer.
7. I use control alt delete to go to task manager.
8. I run explorer to start a new instance of explorer.

Conclusion:
Have to reboot the system.
Pretty serious/severe bug !
During restart/shutdown of the system it seems as soon as CTXFIHLP or

indicate one of these drivers is hanging as well. So it could be a creative

OK to install 32-bit XP on AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core?
Hello
I just bought an Acer desktop that I promptly cleaned of Vista
for XPSP2.
Thing is, I had a license for the 32-bit version of XPSP2. In a week,
it has rebooted on my a couple of times, although I haven't installed
any extra-hardware.
I have a couple of questions:
- is installing 32-bit XP on that CPU an issue? Should I reformat, and
install the 64-bit version instead?
- is there a set of utiliies, either DOS- or Linux-based that I could
run from a USB key or a CD drive to stress the CPU and RAM so make
sure they're OK before investigating further?

Decreasing throughput & increasing CPU when writing a huge file 20
I have a Windows 2003 Server x64 Enterprise Edition with SP2 with 4GB RAM and
an application writing a huge file.
The write throughput is quite good in the beginning (~33MB/s) but it keeps
decreasing, while the CPU keeps increasing. In the beginning, the Kernel CPU
(both in the Task Manager and the Processor\% Privileged Time in performance
monitor) is pretty low, but it keeps increasing. Total CPU is ~ 50%, with
Kernel taking ~8% in the beginning, while later on, the Total CPU reaches
80-90% with Kernel using almost all of that CPU; at that point, the
throughput is very low.
Other numbers: the System Cache (in Task Manager) reaches very soon 3.5 GB
and it stays at that value, but the one that seems to be the problem is the
Paged Pool, which keeps increasing.
In poolmon, I can see that Mmst is the one that keeps increasing and it does
not free the memory unless I stop the write to file. Before starting the
process the Mmst uses 1.8MB, while after 1h:20min it uses 200 MB (at that
point, the Total CPU avarage is 74, with 48% in Privileged mode).
I read some info about the Paged pool (including the KB304101), but most of
them apply to x86 version, which has a limited value for the max pool size
(some 460 MB). On my computer (x64), the size should not be a problem (120GB
is a max value) and I do not get errors but the performance steadily goes
down, even with the Paged Pool under 100 MB !
I do not have anything else running on this computer and the behavior is
reproducible every time. As soon as I stop the process, the System Cache and
Paged Pool memory usage go down, so there is no memory leak.
My application writes data to disk using regular WriteFile API, with an
overlapped structure to write asynchronously. It writes a buffer, processes
the next one and then waits for the previous write to complete before issuing
another write request.
I also tried to use the FILE_FLAG_WRITE_THROUGH flag when opening the file;
the general behavior is similar: increasing Paged Pool, increasing usage of
CPU usage in Kernel mode and decreasing throughput, with some differences,
like the starting throughput is much lower (~6MB/s), and it goes down
slightly slower than the other scenario. Tag: SpyBot Search&Destroy Beta 1.5.1.13 Tag: 49751

10 calls to microsoft so far...
Here is my situation: I was part of the technology advancement program

windows x64 and and my disk is corrupt. (There was a link provided to
download the .iso in the program.) The link no longer works (obviously) so I
downloaded the latest version assuming my key would work. No go. It
installed the trial OK but will not accept my key. I have spoke to about 10
different people at Microsoft who have no idea about this program or how to
support x64. I finally got ahold of someone who was helpful but says that
since there was no disc provided initially then I have no options and
basically have a valid key with no way to use it. I hope this doesn't come

Over 4GB Memory on Intel D965PLT motherboard and poor performance
Hi all
Problem is quite simple (Windows XP Pro x64 with all updates)
computer is quite fast when it has 4GB memory
6GB it slows down
8 GB it stops responding at least after soundcard drivers have been installed,
but has very poor performance also before that.
I suppose this has somethin to do with PCI memory remapping,
but as it is Intel MB it has no such option on bios,
but what I have found allready it should be on by default.
I would also like to know if any one has working system
for Intel Core2Duo processor and Intel chipset with 8GB memory
fx. Asus, Intel MB's
Computer also has nVidia Quadro3450 graphics adapter with most recent drivers
may that cause the problem?

Minor XP annoyance
I've noticed this new annoyance in Explorer, which seems to have started a
few weeks ago. I don't get it *all* the time, but suffice it to say it's
getting on my nerves.
You know how you typically click on a file in details view, scroll down with
the mouse's scrollwheel, and shift-click on another file to select all those
files between the first and last items clicked?
Nowadays, the instant I hit the Shift key (before I have a chance to click
the left mouse button on the second item), the details view repositions
itself (vertically) so the first item that was selected scrolls back in
view. Meaning, I have to scroll back down a second time where I was, and
hit the Shift key again to select the item I was about to click. The second
time around that I hit the Shift key, the list doesn't scroll (as it
should). Hitting the Shift key repeatedly after that doesn't make it scroll
again either--only the first time.
I can't remember exactly how long I've had that, but it's been there since
before this month's Patch Tuesday...I suspect it *might* have been
introduced in last month's. I only have one machine running XP x64, and I
haven't seen this behavior on the x86 version.
Anyone else seeing this? Tag: SpyBot Search&Destroy Beta 1.5.1.13 Tag: 49679

if there is anything I can do to enable hibernation with 4GB of memory? Any
assistance is greatly appreciated.

nForce SATA update BSOD
In spite of having rejected the Serial ATA optional update for NForce
chipsets offered by Windows Update, "it" silently decided that it was
imperative and installed by itself at around 2:00 am while I was peacefully
sleeping.
Woke up at 7:00, went to check my e-mail but the only thing I could see was
a BSOD with crash dump and etc.
Powered off, rebooted, and Vista x64 would freeze when assemlbing the desktop.
Mouse activity, yes. Response: none
Root cause: nForce Serial ATA installed.
Rebooted, F8, Last Known Good Configuration and everything was back to normal.
Serial ATa controller was back to the one released by NVidia during February
(version 15.00,

Latest Updates and IIS
I recently installed the latest updates to a x64 Windows Server 2003 with
WSUS 3.0 (64 bit version) installed. After the reboot, WSUS was not working.
After investigation, I discovered IIS was now in 32 bit mode instead of the
64 bit mode needed by WSUS 3.0. I found a script that restored IIS to the 64
bit version and WSUS was alright. The updates installed based on KB936357,
KB926122, & KB925398. Has anyone else seen this issue with the lastest group
of Microsoft Updates? Tag: SpyBot Search&Destroy Beta 1.5.1.13 Tag: 49628
