Throwing a personal blog out there...
After going through some of these posts the last year, I thought it might
be a good idea to have my own blog online that I could post to outside of
the forums that would be focused on x64 stuff. For those interested, its
located here: http://x64news.blogspot.com/
Keep in mind, I am busy, it will be updated on my own time, and it's not
Microsoft supported in any way. Its my own little forum. The idea will be
to keep the thing up to date and have a forum where common questions,
thoughts, and news. Let me know what you think, keep in mind I wrote it
quickly this AM. Tag: Silicon Image 3512 SATA drivers Tag: 3618

Win XP 64 Bit Edition: No Audio Mixer Device
I have a VIA K8T Neo 2 Motherboard, with an AMD 64 bit 3000 Processor.
I do not have any Sound devices, except the Legacy ones that are listed
(which you can not remove). I am getting an Error code 10 for the device when
I install the proper drivers for the On-board Audio.
Question: Do I have to have a seperate Audio card to get Sound?

Problem installing Office
I have read the posts her about this problem.
At først I got the DEP error message.
I changed in boot.ini from noexecute=optout to: noexecute=AlwaysOff.
I have read an answer from Wayne Wastier. Here he says that the default
should be: optin? Not optout?
Anyway, it did not help. Windows installer now stops the installations
after I type the code.

My install was smooth as butter...SLI & Printers?
I installed the OEM version of XP-64 on my home PC. I had downloaded 64-bit
drivers for my motherboard, SATA and graphics card before I attempted the
installation and had no issues.
HOWEVER. Now that it is installed, I feel like I did when I ran Linux. 80%
of my apps run without any problem...but lack of driver support for my
printers, webcams, etc. has been difficult. My secure jump drive is useless
from home. THAT's scary.
I did get my Sony Cybershot T-33 working...as wells as a few apps that the
manufacturers said are "not supported."
My questions...
I'm about to add a second BFG 6800 ultra...and don't seem to be able to find
definitive information about...but is anyone succesfully running an SLI setup
on XP 64?
My Samsung 550N color laser printer is due to show up any day. Anyone have
a way to get that working?
All-in-all, it's rock solid and flies right along. The full version blows
the RC away.

No Epson Drivers "As Promised"
Epson had published a list of 64 bit printer drivers that were to be
released no later than the end of May.
Maybe I am being picky here, but May is done for this year.

What has it been?
What has it been, five weeks now that the replacement program became
available for us to order Windows 64 bit?
I'm growing anxious now (the performance increases I expect for our agency
should be huge!). If it is the fifth week already, then the orders should
have started shipping last week to the end of next week.
So, within the next two weeks, we should start to see "Pending" changed to
"Shipped."
My order number is 1685. What's yours? Are you closer to the beginning? I
know this is speculative, but how many do you think the fulfillment company
is going to be able to ship per day? It's crazy I even ask because with the
technology that is available today, it shouldn't even be a question, but
with the problems that the fulfillment company has experienced from the
start with most people not able to get their orders to even go through, to
those that could get their orders placed not receiving e-mails, etc., I
think it's a question worth asking.

HP Laserjet x64 Drivers..... not!
I was wondering if anyone has been able to find HP laserjet 9050 printer
drivers for XP x64. While browsing HPs site, I found the following driver:
Listed as: Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition
file name: lj9040-9050psxp64-200364-en.exe
Now this driver fails to install and if you dig into the printer driver
inf you see that it is only for the IA64.
[HPC9050S.PPD.NTia64]
Now according to the MS requirements page, IA64 bit is not supported by
XP x64 (however the tech on HP live chat attempted to say that the HP
driver only supported IA64).....
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/sysreqs.mspx
We'll have to see if they still keep the link up.... All I have to say

BSOD after installation
Hi, I am getting a 'If this is the first time' BSOD on the first boot (and
subsequesnt boots) after installation. I dl'ed the trial and burned to CD
(twice, and installed twice incase of bad burn) then installed it on a 20Gb
partition on my only SATA HDD.
During the install, there was an anonamous 'this has not been certified' box
that I told to continue anyway with. Otherwise there was no problem withthe
install. I used the same Promise SATA drivers as I did for the RC1 install,
the 64bit version of the 378 controller.
My spec:
AMD 64 3200
Asus K8 se (with both via and promise onboard controllers, though via is
turned off)
1Gb PC3200 RAM
120Gb Western D SATA HDD
nVidia Geforce 6600GT
Creative Audigy 2 ZS
DVDROM
DVDRW
Hauppauge Nova-T pci (for which they are never going to release 64bit
drivers for cos Hauppauge are damn poor at driver support)
+ various USB devices plugged in at the time
In the mean time I am probably going to DL the os again and try to find
replacement Promise 64bit 378 drivers.

I have just spoken to Alienware, I asked them what systems they offer that
come prelaoded with XP-64, they said none.
This is the opposite of what this Microsoft page states:

What is going on 2ed tier
What is going with MS. I am a member of MS OEM group and this is there reply
to my request is for the too check with my self to find out if the
manufacture (I am the manuacturer). What that is telling me is that thay are
not doing any checking. They see the OEM and just do nothing.
Product ID contains the letters "OEM"
Microsoft recommends that you visit your PC manufacturer's web site to
determine if they are supporting the program first. If your OEM supports
the program, they will have a "custom" version of the exchange program which
will provide you with the appropriate drivers and software for your
computer. Tag: Silicon Image 3512 SATA drivers Tag: 3243
Remote Desktop
I'm running the remote desktop client from windows 2000. Each time we
connect to xp x64 with a different user, xp x64 complains and assigns the
user a temporary profile. To correct it, we simply log out and log in back
with the same user.
To sum it up, each time we switch users on the remote desktop connection to
xp x64 the first attempt seems to fail at finding the correct profile. Thus
a temporary profile is used. The second attempt always finds the correct
profile.

please point me to some drivers that will work or a modem model that they
got working without to much pain.

WinRAR flakey?
Whenever I create a new archive, I always run a test to check it. Once

Not sure whether it's an x64 problem or a WinRAR problem, because it's
not compatible with x64.

I have an OEM x64 cd that I purchased from on online vendor. My latest
problem is just trying to reinstall x64. I press F6 when the setup starts and
load the VIA Hyperion Pro v500 SATA drivers from floppy disk. I make it
through loading the files for set up. Where that should finish and the PC
should restart to finish the installation I'm getting a BSOD. This particular
one is :
setup.dds
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Yesterday I was getting this same error but on about the twentieth time of
trying I was finally able to make it through the installation. However, I
still had problems with intermittent BSOD that were related to IRQs.
Everything works fine in my XP Pro SP2 installation.
I'm going to keep trying, but hopefully somebody might have a relevant
suggestion? I originally was using v20 of the motherboard bios but I read
where some people were having problems with it so I went back to an earlier
bios version, unfortunately that doesn't seem to have helped.
In the CPP I was using v1289 without any problems. I'm thinking this has to
a driver issue of some sort.
I have tried all of the x64 VIA drivers that I was able to find. <sighs>
