I don't believe the 32-bit version will work or is required; Windows x6
has its own 64-bit updates that should be used instead. Check ou
Microsft.com for details

No the 32bit sp2 doesn't work in x64, but it is included in the rtm version
of x64

No, the SP2 technologies from XP x86 SP2 is included with XP Professional
x64. Windows XP Professional x64 is based on the Windows Server 2003 SP1
code base, which also includes the SP2 security technologies. When Server
2003 gets updated with a future service pack, so will XP Pro x64.

It's not the chipset, it is the processor.

Several versions of the P4 have the EM64T extensions encoded, and can "run"
the 64 bit version of Windows XP Professional. If your proc has EM64T, it
will "run" it. Be aware that those chips that are EM64T enabled are still
P4 chips; they will not run the OS in the same manner as will the AMD
Athlon64 family of processes, which are designed from the ground up as a 64
bit processor.

Adding, of course, the Pentium D family as well.

Your best source (albeit hard to find!) for which Intel processors support
which features is the Intel site. If you poke around for a while, you'll
eventually find the page that has a chart of which features are on which
chip. Intel doesn't make it easy. However, note that it isn't which
_chipset_, but which processor you have.
