Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the above setup? I cannot make it work,
and I am suspecting some 32/64-bit problem but can't find *any*information to
confirm or deny this.

Is Index Service 64-bit on Server 2003 x64? Does it need 64-bit IFilters?

Sigh...

Thanks!

If the Adobe PDF iFilter uses a software driver it will need to be 64-bit to
compatible with Windows x64.

Thanks Andre,

But shouldn't it at least raise some sort of error if the filter is
unusable? I've looked in Event Viewer, and no errors are shown!

Depends on how the application is designed, I am not aware of third party
applications submitting messages to the Event Viewer, its usually system
related or unless an application is written to tie into the Microsoft
Management Console.

OK... Maybe I am just being pedantic here, but if I have a 64-bit operating
system, with a 64-bit process, and someone writes a 32-bit plugin and
registers it with the OS (COM) and with me, and I then try to load it, then
surely one of a very few things should happen:

1) I can't load it because it's 32-bit, so I write an error to the log, and
ignore the plug in

2) I can load it, but it doesn't work because I don't have automatic
64/32-bit thunking on my COM interface layer (which would surely be a
sensible thing to have built it...?) so I write an error message to the log,
and ignore the plug in

3) I can load it, and it works, at which point the PDF files get indexed!

Either way, if the plug-in won't work, then Index Server must know, and
therefore *should* write an error message in the log! Yes?

I have been trying to get my Windows SharePoint Services sites to index
PDF files. As it turns out the Adobe PDF IFilter is 32 bit and my 64
Bit installation of SQL Server Full Text Search won't load it.

Does anyone know of a 64 bit PDF IFilter that can be used?

Regards,
John

It's not working for me either, was trying to make it work with this article

http://aspnet.4guysfromrolla.com/articles/033005-1.aspx

but after trying and trying only indexexes txt, htm, etc but never the PDF,
also in the properties you can't see any of adobe listed.

Let me know if it works for you

Thanks.
