How are you starting? You can try using the run box, try typing rstrui.exe
or just rstrui or go into system32 and execute it.

John,
I tried everything that you told me, nothing works, even the SFC command.
I should tell you that my C drive was going bad, I purchased a 200gig Maxtor
HD, their Maxblast program had a feature that would copy all files including
the operating system, not wanting to install all of my programs etc. I used
it.
All of my programs work fine, I do get a message during boot up that says
"There is no disk in drive - Please insert a disk into drive". All I do is
cancel and it continues to boot up ok.
Thank you for your help, I guess I will live with the problems or reformat
and re-install. Not very promising.
Thanks again,
Domjaq

Sounds like your BIOS is set up to boot to the floppy first and won't bypass
if no disk is present. You can try changing your boot priority to see if
that gets rid of your message.

When connecting up the new drive and starting up the Windows copy, was the
copy in the exact same position as the drive copied? (first hard drive in
boot priority and in the same partition number and active) with the old
drive removed.

Hi,
My BIOS is set to boot from the C drive and then from a CD.
I think you might have identified what happened.
My old C was primary, my slave hard drive was the H drive. I took the H
drive out and put the new Maxtor in as a slave, Windows then named it the D
drive. I then copied and removed old C drive, made the new Maxtor the
primary, put back my
slave drive which now became the D drive. Make sense to you?

Thanks again for your assistance,
Domjaq

As long as the copied system has the same drive letter as the old one that
is not a problem. If you have any pointers to 'H' you might want to change
the drive letter of your slave drive back to H using Disk Management.

Hi, Domjaq.

> I tried everything that you told me, nothing works, even the SFC command.

Are you running Vista? If so, you will have to "elevate" to run SFC.
Right-click on Command Prompt (or on CMD.exe) and choose "Run as
administrator".

Before you do a complete reinstall, you could try a repair install. Look
for it right after the license acceptance.
You will have to redo updates but your programs and settings will be okay.
