New installation of XP 64
I have just installed XP 64 on a new computer I built. Intel 945GNT
motherboard with 3 gHz Pentium D chip. Three 250 gb Western Digital Hard
Drives set up as RAID 5. Difficult installation at best. 2gb Cruical memory.
Intels BIOS update destroyed the BIOS and I had to replace the motherboard.
Finally got things working. Now the splash screen comes up but the screen
goes blank afterwards. This started after I places a portable USB device in
one of the USB ports. Newegg refuses to swap this OS for the 32 bit one. What
gives.? Is this thing ready for "prime time" yet? Tag: Replacement for layout.dll? Tag: 16404
Hack for spell-checking in OE.
Hi,
like most of you guys I noticed spell-checking doesn't work in Outlook
Express under 64 bit. Windows XP 64 also has a 32-bit Outlook Express, but
it still doesn't work because the EXE is modified to use a 64-bit dictionary
(if you launch it you'll notice two msimn.exe processes, one in 32-bit and
one in 64-bit).
A simple workaround for this problem is to copy the MSIMN.EXE from a 32-bit
Windows XP in the same directory as the 32-bit OE from Windows XP 64. You
should rename the file before copying it, I called mine msimn_32.exe, else
windows will restore the original file.
Now you just need to execute the new (e.g. file msimn_32.exe) and OE will
work with your 32-bit spell-checking software. The other stuff stays the
same, i.e. you'll have access to your normal mails and address book from OE
64 bits.

XP64 problem install for dual boot
I first installed the xp32 Home on new primary IDE, which shows up as F drive
in
"my computer". The slave drive that I want to put xp64 Trial on shows as C
drive when I am booted to the xp32. I then booted from cd (xp64 trial disc)
and was shown drives C and D, choose one for this install. Here, at the blue
partition screen, I chose D,which I'm figuring is the Slave drive, to
install 64. I formatted it to NTFS (as I did the other drive). It goes
through all the motions to install, but when it does its first auto reboot
during setup, it doesn't seem to get past this and starts setup all over
again. As a test, I have set the bios to boot the xp32 drive first which
allows a
normal bootup. However, if I set bios to boot the other drive first, nothing
happens, no option for which OS I want to boot to (as I presume it never
finished installing). Although, I do see files on the C drive resembling
xp64 ( I can see a folder labeled "msagent64").
So, the questions are: what is not going right in
installing xp64 for the dual boot scenario? and why do the drive letters
show primary as F when in xp32? (D and E are cdrw and dvdR, and slave is C). Tag: Replacement for layout.dll? Tag: 16392
Xp pro 64 won't boot
I'm sure a few of you out there have had this problem, I have installed xp
pro 64 on my new system. I have two hitachi 7k80 SATAII running in raid 0
array, my problem is that I can get it to install and go through all the
initial setup, but then when I try and boot for the first time into windows
it stops at the logo display screen with the little blue blocks just running
across the bar. I have the Nvidia raid drivers which came with the chipset
version 6.66 drivers, the board in the machine is an asus a8n-sli (Nvidia
nForce4). The rest is all fairly basic components Geil value dual channel kit
1GB, sapphire rad x600 (128MB), Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice). Has anyone got any
ideas how I can round this? Thanks. Tag: Replacement for layout.dll? Tag: 16380
Wow6432Node Determining 64 "bit ness"
I have written an application that determined if an OS was 64 bit version by
looking for the Wow6432Node in the registry. Then I ran across a stumbling
block. A windows 2000 machine had these in it.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Emulex]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Emulex\AutoPilot Installer]
"PortRunning"="TRUE"
It appears that Emulex:
http://www.emulex.com/press/2005/0131-01.html
must put this in there.
Is there are "unspoken rule" about the Wow6432Node use. Is there a better
way to determine 64 bitted ness on a remote machine (not able to use WMI
either - a requirement I was given)
Thanks,

Can't boot to XP 64 with drives connected to Maxtor Ultra ATA 133
I am unable to boot to Windows XP 64 with drives connected to my Maxtor Ultra
ATA 133 card. My XP 64 installation is on a SATA drive and boots fine when I
disconnect the cables from the card, but leave the card in the system. The
system also boots when I connect any two of my six IDE devices to the onboard
IDE controller.
During POST, the system correctly detects whichever devices are connected to
the Maxtor card.
Also, if I connect the DVD and CD-ROM drives to the Maxtor card, the system
boots, but blue screens when I use either drive. I get an error message which
reads: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
This system has never had XP installed on it. It is a brand new system to
which I have freshly installed XP 64. I really would like to get thise
hardware configuration to work. Any suggestions?
My hardware is as follows:
Tyan S2895 system board (BIOS version 1.00.2895, date 2/21/05)
2 AMD Opteron Model 248 processors
Diamond Viper X X600 Pro graphics accelerator card
Maxtor Ultra ATA 133 Controller (BIOS version 2.20.0050.10 by Promise

2 WDC SATA hard drives
4 IDE hard drives (3 > 137 GB)
1 IDE DVD-ROM drive

We do not have any specific drivers for the ATA card other than what was
supplied with the card itself.
Given that POST sees all devices correctly, we can assume the hardware is
fine. Do you have the same problem when running XP? Tag: Replacement for layout.dll? Tag: 16362

Dell & Sony
Dell Laptop Wireless
I purchased a Memorex Mini TD F mini clip. I only have one function left on
the 2003 Dell Laptop, which is the Defragmenter file. The defragmenter file
said Fat 245 244MB 99%, I had placed 5 newsgroup threads into the mini clip.
I noticed that the Defragmenter file showed the defragmenter file on the
Mini Clip clean. Originally, I had purchased the Mini Clip (with great
distaste and hassle) because I wanted to use it when I used my new 2005 Sony
Laptop. On the new Sony the defragmenter file stated that the Sony computer
brain was empty. When I tried to enable the Mini clip function manually, a
51-page Windows XP description began printing out. I then had 117 Internet
function appear. Where did they come from?
I purchased a 2003 Dell Laptop. The computer was specially
assembled for each and every purchaser. It was customized for the
individual needs. For two-and-a-half-years, my customized computer was a
nightmare. It appeared to catch a virus every time I used dial-up to access
the Internet. The hard drive was replaced twice. The second time was
August 1, 2005. Immediately, the Dell began acting up. I came to the
conclusion that the only time my Family and Friends did not receive a
contaminated email was when the hard drive gave out, and I had to wait for a
replacement.
The Sony Laptop was purchased September 16, 2005 because I
wanted a clean computer simply to e-mail my brother in Connecticut "Good
Luck". If wishing brother "Good Luck" meant that my luck wouldn't be.
Brother was going to for a surgery September 20, 2005. My situation was
that I had two sick computers one a new Sony and the other a 2003 Dell.
Brother needs the "Good Luck" not I.
Ten years ago, I believe that the United States government knew
that China had the computer technology that could disable a United States
airplane's computerized instrument panel, causing it to tumble from the sky
in a finger-snap and crash into the Earth anyplace, anytime and anywhere.
Since I already own a Dell laptop and tried to purchase a clean Sony, I
believe that the Chinese government discovered a way to nicely package a USA
nightmare. If the shoe was on the other foot and the Chinese government
suspected sabotage, every Dell and Sony pusher, seller and flawed computer
government protector would be taken outside of the store to be immediately
shot! I live in the USA.
I remember the US people calling French fries Freedom fried. The USA
Politicians have taught the people to dislike the French. The French are
insulted because the USA medical people want to exchange 3 inferior
Tuberculosis vaccines for the Original BCG that was discovered in France
about 1908. Now the USA politicians insult every country in the world
because a country's only value is the people within.
If we are going to sell flawed destructive merchandise that will destroy
human life living in the USA, then the saboteurs should be taken outside of
the store or White House to be immediately shot for the act of sabotage!
Yes, the rude Orion Best Buy acted like a saboteur when I returned the
flawed Sony Laptop. A saboteur would lie, which he did. A USA saboteur
would use the young to again lie, teaching the young that lies are good and
that evil saboteur politicians are the right way to live. Yep, he did that!
When I purchased the $50 Norton antivirus software (after I had already
purchased the Trend), the manager was watching as I paid for four items. I
feel that after looking at my receipts, he knew that I had purchased the
3-year protection plan, too
Disk Clean Up is found under system tools.
There was 244,416 K called Office-set-up-files.
The figure is now down to 3888 KB, that is 240,528K less that what the
frozen 244,4l6.
I came to the conclusion that the Disk Clean Up function has a flawed
counter.
They looked important, but somehow I believe that they threw Trend
Anti-virus software anti-virus detection into the recycle bin when my back
was turned. I believe that the US government and congress people knew that
when the "Made in China" computers entered the USA, the computers would
contain a system called "Outlook Express". The unexpecting commoner would
think that he/she had an antivirus system, but reality was that the Dell
laptop browser caught the software that could detect the antivirus software
first. Yep, the browser could and (as my did) would catch a virus or worm
as quickly as it could then throw the culprit into my Dell Laptop to cause
havoc. I call that sabotage. I don't know of any country that would teach
its children to ignore sabotage, the destruction of the ground upon which
they walk. How buzzard! The devil wouldn't want a liar in the devil's den,
even a murder would admit to the How and Why of the murder.
The Office Set-Up file was filled with useful sounding computer
words. To me, it sounds like the US Congress speaking to the commoner. We
teach our children to ignore sabotage words for it's already under our nose
in full bloom. I had the list down to 12.

Windows XP x64 incompatability issues!

now, do I learn that there are a number of 32bit apps and drivers that are
incompatable with the x64 OS. Now if Microsoft is so hot on promoting this

XP Pro x64 MSDN download doesn't work?

none-functional. I tried installing both versions (the one suffixed with

otherwise useless. To rule out a hardware/driver deficiency, I purchased an

the astronomical cost of the subscription and the unbelievable amount of time

filters to his existing IIS that took him a lot of time to remove once he
uninstalled the GSX app. It also wrecked his ODBC components and would no
longer accept connections through the OraOleDB component. I had him attempt
an MDAC install in an attempt to remedy that; prior to that, he had opened an
incident with Oracle to no avail.
A perusal of the VMWare website states that GSX is not supported on the
Itanium platform. Knowing that, I painted a bleak picture for him, saying
that his only recourse was to place a fresh reinstall of the OS on the server
and start over, as installation of an app on a non-supported platform won't
get you very far in the support cummunity. He, however, wants a <b>Microsoft
opinion</b> on what to do, since "it's a production server and it handles
many tasks, which would take a bunch of time to redo."
I told him I would get an MS opinion... platform experts, your thoughts
please!

sharing data amongst users
my wife and I have individual login names. How can we share the same data,
for instance a contact list without having to copy it on each users folder,
thus using up memory.

Digital Terrestrial Card that works on X64 and Media Center 2005...
Anyone knows which one is good? (If there is one...)
I would prefer it to be internal, USB2 is fine as well though.

Event ID : 10 simpTcp
Hello all,
finally got Windows XP Pro x64 installed and working (no 64 bit drivers for
Linksys Wireless network card !)
IN the Event Viewer I regularly get the following error
" The Simple TCP/IP Services could not find the UDP QOTD port. The UDP QOTD
service was not started "
Is this an important error ?

Windows Explorer - Hard Drive Icon.
Hi,
I'm having a problem with Windows Explorer, a programme I had on my PC has
changed the Icon for one of my hard drives, it now looks like the default
html icon. Can someone please give me some help in changing it back to the
default setting. None of the fixes I have found so far work as they are all
for 32bit Win XP and not 64bit.
Many thanks in advance.

Win 2003 x64 Installation
Hi, We are trying to install win 2003 x64 on IBM X366 server with Intel Xeon.
This server doesn't posses floppy drive. Hence we are using an external USB
floppy drive for loading RAID Controller device drivers. Initally it accepts
the floppy dirve, but when the windows setup starts and it looks for the raid
controllers and doesn't senses the USB floppy drive. What would be problem ?
