    - 15-20 Minute Delay Starting up XP 64 Hi I have a problem in that my system is waiting for about 15-20 minutes each time I have to restart. The problem occurs between windows load screen (with green scroll bar) and switching to the blue logon screen. The problem started to occur after my system crashed once. I had a similar problem with the x64 trial version too. If I start in safe mode it seems to pause on the file "c:\windows\system32\apcitabl.dat" Has anyone else experienced this or know someway to correct it?     - ImageBurn 2.2x is out ImageBurn, not to be confused with ImageTool Burn is out. This is a nice little utility that allows the creation and burning of many image file types such as ISO, BIN, etc.. Buried in the program is a nice little utility that will seach the internet for the lastest firmware update for you DVD/CD drivers. It is supposed to be a replacement for DVD Decrypter but I still keep it arround anyway. Works fine under x64.     - Nero 7.2.7.0 is out Nero 7.2.7.0 is out. It seems to run fine under x64 except for Nero Home. I dont use it and have stopped installing it. I was getting an errors from Nero Home when I opened Nero Burning Rom. If you dont install it, you dont get them. The new version seems to burn well enough using a SATA Plextor 12x burner on x64 with an SATA HD installed. In my present 32-bit system I like to keep my program files in a completely separate partition to the operating system (as far as I can - some programs don't offer you the choice of where to install).     - Things I need to know On Wednesday I should be receiving all the bits to build my new computer - based around a Conroe 2.67Ghz CPU and an Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi Solo motherboard. I have ordered WinXP x64 Pro as the operating system as I would like to fully utilise the 4Gb of RAM which I will be installing. I have Norton Internet Security 2006 but I believe this will not work in XP x64 - is there anything else available which doesn't cost an arm and a leg?? As a professional photographer, good colour management is vital to me, will the Colour Control Applet work in XP x64?? My colour profiling software will not work in WinXP x32 apparently (needs 64-bit drivers for my XRite puck). Will a profile which has been generated in Windows XP x32 work in XP x64?? The .icm file afterall is only a file which describes the colour characteristics of my monitor - but I would need a profile loader at startup, which is why I asked about the Colour Control Applet.     - XP 32-bit plus Vista Beta on 64-bit computer Hello, I have no experience with 64-bit computers, but I need to buy one soon to do some software testing in Vista Beta 2. If I buy a Core 2 Duo E6300 with XP Pro 32-bit pre-installed, can I expect all my software and peripherals I own now (and which work in XP Pro on a Pentium 4) to work fine in XP Pro 32-bit? Is there any trouble running 32-bit software in 32-bit Windows on a 64-bit computer? Is there anything I need to be aware of before I commit the money on a Core 2 Duo? (I do not want to ask my boss for money for a Core 2 Duo and then find out it will not do what I must have it do.) Can I then partition the drive and install Vista Beta 2 in the second partition, and dual boot? When Vista is released is there any reason I could not buy a retail copy and install it in the second partition, replacing the Beta? After Vista is released, and after I buy a retail copy, what do you think about me reformatting the entire drive, installing Vista (64-bit) as the only OS, and then using either Microsoft Virtual PC, Microsoft Virtual Server, or VMWare Workstation to run older OS's? I need to do testing in Vista, XP (32-bit), 2000, and 98. I even need to keep a Win 3.1 box around for development of a certain driver. I just installed the free Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 on my P4 2.8GHz Win XP Pro Toshiba laptop with 2 GB RAM, and just created a Vista virtual drive, which runs slowly on this computer. It lets me test Vista, but it is only 32-bit. I would like to have a Vista 64-bit computer and then use virtual hard drives for all my old OS's, allowing me to start and stop them at will, instead of rebooting into the other OS (dual booting). If I do the above, is the Core 2 Duo E6300 powerful enough? It is the baby CPU of the Core 2 Duo line, but it is so much more powerful than my P4 that I anticipate it will seem like I am flying, compared to my P4. Is that right? Or should I get one of the more powerful Core 2 Duos. If I do what I described above (Vista as the only OS, then run Virtual PC with the older OS's), how much RAM should I ask my boss to buy? Do you think 2 GB is enough to run Vista plus one virtual OS? I think I should get 4 GB RAM, but I need some expert's help and advice to enable me to justify the extra cost. (I know RAM is the cheapest way to speed up a computer, but this is going to be the most expensive PC I have ever asked my boss to buy, and I need some facts to back up my request.     - XP 64 on a Dell Precision 670 I purchased a Dell Precision 670 that came with teh XP Pro (32 bit version). Several months ago, I ordered and rececied the Dell XP 64 bit upgrade disk. I have not installed it yet. I want to install it on a seperate hard drive and have access to both OSs. However, I am not sure how the liscencing works. If I install the 64 bit system and activate it, will the 32 bit system stop working?     - XP Service Pack 2 Update Notification Icon I have a notification icon in my taskbar that informs me that "support for Windows XP SP1 ends October 10, 2006" The "little blue star" icon. Right clicking on it shows several options, Including the one that asks to "Obtain XP Sevice Pack 2" I want this icon removed and taken of my system that I built myself from the motherboard on up. I do not wish to use XP Service Pack 2 and never will. I found that it was a piece of junk that caused so many problems it made it impossible to use the Internet, so I took it off my machine. I paid good money to buy the Windows XP Professional operating system when I built this system from scratch. Yet, when I try to obtain email support for it using my PID , I am told I should contact my computer vender. That means I should contact myself. How ridiculous!!! If anyone has had problems with this and/or knows how to get it off my system, I would appreciate the help. Even though I have installed SUSE Linux as a bootable option on this machine, I still need to use Windows XP for games and until my transition to Linux is complete.     - Repair installation of win xp x64 stops at installing devices I have waited for hours at the "34 minures remaining milestone" but nothing happens. it just waits at that particular point indefinately.     - Can I delete These Folders? Can I delete these folders: 1. $NtServicePackUninstall$ - created after installation of Service Pack 2 Beta 2. ServicePackFiles - Likewise (I think!) Together they occupy about 1.2 GB. I am not complaining about the disk space on this machine with almost a terabyte of storage capacity but I regularly make system drive backup images (Ghost, using a boot-CD). The back up would fit on one DVD but after the SP2 update, spills over onto another disc! I have had problems with spanned drive images before!     - Trying to install x64 +++PLEASE HELP I just built my computer from the ground up and I decided to install XP Pro x64 on it. Whenever I get to about 7 minutes togo, it's finalizing the installtation, the system restarts, and the setup along with it. I get taken right back to the beginning where I have to reinput all the info(name, product key, etc.). This has gone through about 7 times.     - winlogon.exe has huge VM size ? I've noticed that all my Windows XP x64 PCs have a huge VM size in Task Manager, I think it's only since the last MS patch day. Also the machines are popping up dialog boxes saying Windows is running short of virtual memory and has increased the page file size.     - Partitioning hard drives. Partitioning hard drives can be a nightmare. I've been using PQ Partition magic for years, I've seen no updates to it since Norton purchased it other than name change. PM isn't compatible with XP x64 or Vista at this time other than booting it from the CD or floppies which works. I'm not holding my breath for an update since there have been no updates in over three years. When I rebuilt my FX51 tower, dropping raid and installing a 320GB hard drive, I didn't have a copy of XP X86 to install without violating licensing. I installed XP x64 instead on a 30GB partition setup during installation. That left 268GB unallocated. Using "Disk Management" in x64 I created two 49GB primary partitions, F data and G Vista and formatted them NTFS with name and letter. Installation of Vista x64 on the G partition was flawless. Under hard drives I see C x64 30GB, F Data 49GB and G Vista 49GB in either operating system. Under "Disk Management" I see the same partitions plus 170GB unallocated. This proves that with a little planning from the beginning a third party partitioning tool isn't needed. I will still boot PM from floppies if I need to resize the partitions because it works, but for partition creation and formatting "Disk Management" is faster and easier. I would like a 64 bit cpu - just to have the OPTION to use 64 bit OS'es. I think that I'd be better to upgrade to1gb or 2gb of memory rather than the "best cpu". I'm not a gamer so my CPU will probably be idle 98% of the time. But if I'm gonna get a pc that would better/ last me for a few extra years, it would be worth it to me to spend an extra $100, $200 now to get it.     - windows 64 xp crash Ihave just gotten this pc made last week. I have used it for 2days now and have gotten 2 death screens. one a day ago and on today. I have a SCI u2w cdrom, controllerwith a plextor 40x and a 8/20 bundled burner combo sys. I had done some WIN updates for this OS. Three non critical up dates. the one I suspect causing my troubles was an IDE controller. I lost one of my plextor cdrom the 40X. Windows did not see it also upon bootup lost that drive reconizition which was F: and bootup was hanging on IDE Scan which is a Atlas Fireball 20G. My system configuration is Plextor 40X cdrom, an 8/20 Burner with an a removable SCI drive an atlas fireball which these components were used in my old system with WIN 98SE on the hard Drive. I have WIN XP 64X on a raptor 70G hard Drive. Since the update of the IDE controller which at bootup/scan reconizes the atlas now but the WiN 64X OS is now hanging on the logo screnn . I cant get into safe mode because after selecting begins windows logo then hangs up. What can I do. I just got this COMP. done last week and have not made a Recovery disk. I have try all functions in F8 mode but all functions hang on the XP logo and system Frezzes causing another hard boot. Does any one know how to recpover. I have OEM disk and comp. company that built sys states only covers hardware.... What can I do... Please help. Also I am running AMD4400 X2 Chip with Geforce 7600 GT Video Card with @Gig Ram. in many popular mobos (e.g.: ASUS K8N, A8NSLI) and notebooks.
