Has anyone had any problems installing XP Office Pro? I enter in the serial
# and Windows installer dies soon after without an error. I read of the
conflict w/ 64 bit installer w/ 32 bit but the solution is to re-install 32
bit OS and then install - that is crazy - is there another way?

I realize this won't help at all but I didn't have any problems installing
Office 2003. I don't think Office XP should be any different, so I'm
guessing the problem is something with your specific machine?

One suggestion I might make is to search google groups in the office.general
group, the symptoms might be something that has also occured with XP....
maybe. It's worth a try.

If you have any Antivirus enabled, disable it before attempting
installation.

Hello,
Not sure what this is your read, can you post links to it:
> I read of the conflict w/ 64 bit installer w/ 32 bit but the solution is
to re-install 32
>bit OS and then install - that is crazy - is there another way?
There isn't any reason to reinstall the 32-bit OS to be able to install a
32-bit application under 64-bit Windows. The two installation would be
separate so that should not change the behavior.
This issue should be trouble-shot like any Microsoft Office installation,
this problem is not unique to 64-bit Windows and probably is not platform
related.

Cannot respond about Office XP, but I just installed Office 2003 and
encountered absolutely NO problems, none whatsoever!

Office 2003 installed without ANY flaws and then proceeded to update via
the Web via the Microsoft update site. It took two iterations to
complete the update, but that was because some of the newer updates
required previous update before installation.

I also noticed in a post with the same problem, the person was using copied

Thanks for all the responses. I don't have any Anti-Virus installed at this
time. All other installs have been working fine. I have installed this
version of XP Office w/o problems before on 32 and 64 bit. I have also
disabled the EBD functionality as it did seem to be causing some of the
problems using the AlwaysOff parameter in the boot.ini

Ciould this have anything to due w/ Service Pack 2? I don't believe I had
installed that when I had a successful install in the past

In some way SP2 is intergrated in to Windows XP Pro x64, because it is built
upon the code base of Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Server 2003 SP1 is
using technologies that originally came with Windows XP Service Pack. The
only difference in the case of XP SP2 technologies are integrated into XP
Pro x64, so no, you can't uninstall it.

There is an update for the Windows Installer 3.1 for both the XP Pro (32
bit) and x64 (64 bit) that was released last month. I updated both my
OSs via the Windows Update, but don't have the KB number handy.
