    - Palm & x64 I am trying to get my Palm to be recognised. I installed the last Palm Desktop software, 4.1, and then as soon as I put my Palm in the craddle, x64 sees a new device, wants to install drivers but can't find any. Is there any workaround for this with "re-decorated" drivers or something?     - XP 64 Bit, IIS and Access 2000 Any help with this is appreciated. I upgraded my pc to 64 bit motherboard, processor and XP 64 bit. When I try to access an Access 2000 database, using ASP on my local pc I receive an error "'800a0ea9' Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider." The offending code is "strConn = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;" & "Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("/db/sample.mdb")" It works fine on the net and the db is located under wwwroot/db/. I'm a newbie to IIS, but I'm pretty sure I have permissions correct. Thinking it's a driver issue I've downloaded the latest jet, but on instal this errors "This KB829558 is for a different hardware platform." Thinking it may be MDAC I downloaded MDAC_TYP.EXE, but this errors "This setup does not support installing on this operating system." Just picked up a copy today in the Atlanta, GA area from one of the local shops. I was using the trial version, now I have the OEM copy up and running.     - user account recovery... for background: i'm working a presario r3000 series with amd athlon 64, trial version of xp pro 64-bit and office xp pro package. in loading the customer preview version of xp64 (before the trial set which is now running), i did a full install rather than a partitioned run. the result, i overwrote the existing user accounts and computer name from the previous xp pro 32-bit os. no problem, except i had a suite of files encrypted. and, no, i had neither designated a recovery agent nor copied the certificate to a floppy/other computer (yes, i know, STUPID!). i've gone back and found the user name (e.g., steve(steve@STEVESLAPTOP)) and certificate generated during the encryption process by digging through the recycler folders. but, since i switched user account names and renamed the computer (no longer, e.g., STEVESLAPTOP) during the xp64 load, i still can't access the suite of encrypted files no matter what i've tried. my question, then: is there a way to restore/recreate that user account so that xp sees the certificate that remains on the machine? i haven't tried it -- because it seems too stunningly simple, occam's razor not withstanding -- but i doubt that simply renaming the computer and creating an account with the same name as before would work. it's incredibly frustrating to be this close to recovering data and not knowing how to do so (if it's even possible). thanks for any help, kevin Tag: Re: Problems installing Office XP or 2003 Tag: 3654

    - Booting from XP 64 CD I am trying to installing XP 64 and the only way to do this is by booting from CD. I did this to install XP ages ago and that was fine but now when I try to boot from a cd I get this message 'memory overflow error'. I have tried rearranging all IDE connections, flashing BIOS and even using different CD/DVD drive. Nothing works and I really want to play Far Cry 64. Any ideas would be a gtreat help.     - My install was smooth as butter...SLI & Printers? I installed the OEM version of XP-64 on my home PC. I had downloaded 64-bit drivers for my motherboard, SATA and graphics card before I attempted the installation and had no issues. HOWEVER. Now that it is installed, I feel like I did when I ran Linux. 80% of my apps run without any problem...but lack of driver support for my printers, webcams, etc. has been difficult. My secure jump drive is useless from home. THAT's scary. I did get my Sony Cybershot T-33 working...as wells as a few apps that the manufacturers said are "not supported." My questions... I'm about to add a second BFG 6800 ultra...and don't seem to be able to find definitive information about...but is anyone succesfully running an SLI setup on XP 64? I followed through the usual setup procedure, NTFS formatted the partition I wanted to use on my Maxtor SATA drive. The server is performing well with all the applications. The administrator experiences very slow response on the server console screen. All the server HW resourses usage is very low according the performance monitor (CPU & Memory < 20%). But the server screen response time is fine when we accessing via the remote desktop.     - BSOD after installation Hi, I am getting a 'If this is the first time' BSOD on the first boot (and subsequesnt boots) after installation. I dl'ed the trial and burned to CD (twice, and installed twice incase of bad burn) then installed it on a 20Gb partition on my only SATA HDD. During the install, there was an anonamous 'this has not been certified' box that I told to continue anyway with. Otherwise there was no problem withthe install. I used the same Promise SATA drivers as I did for the RC1 install, the 64bit version of the 378 controller. My spec: AMD 64 3200 Asus K8 se (with both via and promise onboard controllers, though via is turned off) 1Gb PC3200 RAM 120Gb Western D SATA HDD nVidia Geforce 6600GT Creative Audigy 2 ZS DVDROM DVDRW Hauppauge Nova-T pci (for which they are never going to release 64bit drivers for cos Hauppauge are damn poor at driver support) + various USB devices plugged in at the time In the mean time I am probably going to DL the os again and try to find replacement Promise 64bit 378 drivers. Another question, I have already install xp 64 beta edition 2003, and also Windows xp, I have an AMD 64 microprocessor and it frequency is 1.8Ghz (i checked in the Mother's BIOS). My question is: why xp 64 recognized the frequency and Xp 32 it doesn't. It tells me that microprocessor it's running at 989Mhz?. I am a member of MS OEM group and this is there reply to my request is for the too check with my self to find out if the manufacture (I am the manuacturer). What that is telling me is that thay are not doing any checking. They see the OEM and just do nothing. Product ID contains the letters "OEM" Microsoft recommends that you visit your PC manufacturer's web site to determine if they are supporting the program first. If your OEM supports the program, they will have a "custom" version of the exchange program which will provide you with the appropriate drivers and software for your computer. Is an Antivirus program installed on those computers that are experiencing
problems trying to install either Office XP or 2003? Try disabling it and
give Office another run.
