The current Nvidia x64 drivers (96.33) do not work under RC2.
You will lose all hardware acceleration (video, games, even Vista Aero).

I did not test x86/32 bit.

The builtin drivers work, but are not meant for 3d games of course,
extremely poor performance. Choppy frame rates and graphic corruption in HL2
(at least).

Hi walk2k,

I have similar card as you do and it sounds you are missing a file. I am
able to play BF2 with no problems. It plays better than RC 1.
This is information from DXdiag.
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce 7800 GTX
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC

You do not have listed nvapi64.dll. I think that could be the problem.

Both of your drivers appear to be version 96.77 (> Driver Version:
7.15.0010.9677 (English)) Are you sure you are talking about nvidia's 96.33

This is correct.

Actually I think what happens is the 96.33 drivers don't get fully
installed. So you end up with some broken hybrid of the MS drivers (96.77)
and Nvidia's 96.33. This is what causes you to lose Aero and games to
malfunction.

HOWEVER the 96.77 driver that MS ships with RC2 is garbage. Massive graphic
corruption in Source games, other games flat-out refuse to run (Prey) etc.

My advice is don't use RC2. Must be why they pulled it. I'm going to
reinstall RC1.1
