Nero 7.5.7.0 was released today 10/16/2006. It installs with no problems
with x64, Vista RC1 (5600) x64 and Vista RC2 (5744). I haven't tried all
functions yet, SmartStart, ISO burning and movie player work properly.

I'm running RC2 and this version Nero seems to work okay. Other people
have reported that it generates errors and closes, though.

Thought you were gonna say something like "Stay away from Nero v7 bloatware.
Stick to v6.6" :-)
Seriously speaking, this is good news indeed.

I might think that, but since Nero 6 won't install on RC2, we don't have a

part I use and needed.

Charlie:
Custom install does the job allowing you to weed out the fat.
However it requires you to install DirectX 9.0c.
There is no way to skip that step.
I let it "install" it, did no harm.
So far, so good.

Hi, Tony:
You can install it from scratch or as un upgrade using your Nero 7 Premium
key.

In 32-bit XP, I installed it over the store-bought version and just
rebooted. It picked up the s/n so I didn't have to go looking for it.
Originally I had installed all prgs from the CD. Even though I chose
only a few prgs off the new install ( thinking it might remove all
unchecked items), it left anything that wasn't upgraded, so I still have
old versions of prgs that I chose to to install. If you want to remove
any unused optional programs, do it before the upgrade.

Great, Thanks!

I rather like Nero, although I'm not likely to ever get to use all of it -
InCD still missing, I guess.

InCD seems to be missing and absent.
I don't recall having seen it during the Custom Install as an option.

Well, it isn't generating errors. But it knocks the Ferrari completely out
of Aero Glass, into Vista Basic look and feel. Grrrrrr.

Charlie:
I had that problem (theme switching to basic) in Vista rc1 x64 with Nero.
Don't have that problem on rc2 (fresh install) neither with Nero v7.5.1.1
nor 7.5.7.0.
Theme can be changed back to Aero after Nero starts and messes with the
desktop.
Can't recall if right clicking on the desktop and choosing refresh would
restore Aero.

This is a clean install of RC2, and 7.5.7.0 of Nero. But I am running dual
monitor. And no, refresh won't fix it. A reboot fixes it, until the next
time. Grrr.

Charlie:
This will help you avoid rebooting.
Save your current Aero theme with two different names.
Start Nero and let it screw your theme.
Right click on the Desktop, Personalize, Theme.
Choose "the other" theme, the one that is not the current.
Switch to it and presto, Aero is back.
After that you can use Nero with Aero.

That is, frankly, ridiculous. But a useful tip if Nero is going to be such a

I'm still using Nero 6.6.1.4 Ultimate. StartSmart, Express and Wave Editor
won't work, but the full Nero Burning ROM main program does, for erasing
rewritables and burning isos. Yet to make a compilation.

I couldn't get it to install on RC2. Flat refused. So I settled for
installing the latest bloated version. It works, but totally messes up the
video. Carlos' workaround works, fortunately, but it's frankly ridiculous.
