Well I got my first BSOD in years using Nero 7. So I figured I'd
uninstall it and load Roxio 8 for a change. I know its hard to belive
since Roxio EZ-CD was so bad for years. Anyway I digress.

When I went to uninstall Nero 7 I recieved the following message
'Error applying transform. Verify that the specified transform paths
are valid'. Obviously Nero doesnt recogonize or like the \program
files (x86)\ directory even though it installed into it. It didn't
even ask me where I wanted to load the files, it just automatically
defaulted to c:\. I eventually had to delete the Nero folder and clean
out the registry with TweakNow Reg Cleaner 2.6.0 which supposedly
supports x64. Yes I know that using a reg cleaner is a bad idea but
time is not in abundance for me right now.

Well to make a long story short Roxio 8 is up and running well on my
system. Don't know if I'll run into the same problems if I have to
uninstall it.

Just a heads up!

Wad

I had a problem uninstalling Nero myself. I have had problems with at least
4 other programs which wouldn't uninstall from x64 for various reasons. One
was that it had a 32-bit installer and 16-bit uninstaller.

I have had no problems with nero 7 at all so I have not tryed to uninstall
it as of yet. But I have had other programs not uninstall. I found it to be
that x64 installs the program in x86 and the uninstaller does not know where
it is.
I hope I dont run into any problems with Nero 7 because for someone that use
to only run easy cd by Roxio and loved it. I now love Nero which works 100%
better.

RE: Nero 7 doesnt uninstall on Win x64 by Carlos

Carlos

Hi Wad:
This is an easy one.
The cryptic Nero message about "error applying transform" must be translated
as follows:
"I cannot find the installation CD-ROM on the drive. Please insert it in
order to proceed with the uninstallation".
Just put the CD from which you installed Nero 7 on the drive and run the
uninstall again.
That should do it.
The same applies if you installed Nero from a hard disk folder and you later
deleted it.
Restore that folder.
If you don't have the original media, there is another solution.
Search the registry for the string "transform".
There will be a few hits.
Choose the one related to Nero.
Delete it.
You will be able to uninstall Nero without any problems.
These two solutions were experimented by me and work.
A negative comment on Nero 7.
Nero 7.0.0.0 produces audio skips on the first 15 secs of the first audio
track.
This is widely reported on the Internet.
Don't know if the newer 7.0.1.2 version has a solution for this.
Just be careful and test extensively when converting your favority mp3's
into an Audio CD with Nero 7.
Nero 6.6 doesn't have this problem.
Regards.
Carlos

This is what I should have waited for but I even tried to uninstall in

well.

For years I've always used Nero as my main burning program but when it
gave me my first BSOD I knew there was something seriously wrong.

Ive always stayed away fom Roxio EZ-CD due to its bad reputation. But
aftering reading all the good responses here and the fact it claims
support for x64 I thought I'd give it another whirl.

Nero and Roxio dont really strike me as all that different at the
moment. Time will tell, but it seems that Roxio 8 may be a winner.

Thanks Carlos,

going through add/remove or are you using the Nero Product Setup, which is

It's a pity I didn't get on time with the registry key deletion solution.
Maybe a System Restore to a previous known good state would have been enough.
Anyway, the guys who made Nero manage to spill files in a couple of folders
during the installation.
Deleting the Nero folder from Program Files x86 is not enough.
There are leftovers elsewhere.
Search for folders with the strings Ahead and Nero in "Document and settings"
and "Program Files x86".
There are some shared files and related stuff in those locations.
Delete them with confidence.
Also search for the same strings on the registry.
There may be many lurking around.
For sure, you will find the one with the "transform" thing.
Happy debugging!
Carlos

Thanks. I installed the last version of 6.xx and uninstalled using the
add/remove programs. Had registry entries left behind that made my cd and
dvd recorders unusable. I also tried to install INCD, which was the only
reason for installing in the first place, as I was going to use Roxio 7.0,
without DragToDisk, and personally prefer to use it.

Thanks again Carlos,

If I were to reinstall Nero, delete the transform key, and then
uninstall would that remove all the previous redistry keys?
Would this not clean my registry out?

Well, I don't know what was in Ahead guys minds when they developed the Nero
uninstaller.
Better ask them rather than me.
I will stick to Nero 6.6 until a newer release of Nero (post 7.0.1.2) shows
up, or until I have evidence that there are no audio skips.
