language bar is not working in x64 only
I have installed Vista RTM enterprise version at work and home. At work I run
a 32-bit machine and 64 bit at home. The language bar install and works fine
with the 32 bit, but will refuse to appear with the 64 bit. I have Office
2007 on both machines.
I have tried removing all keyboard input languages but English and adding
one back, but it will not appear. This appears to be a bug as the language
bar option is not even displayed in the taskbar toolbar options.
Can anyone with Vista x64 add an additional language and get the bar to
appear? Tag: Need driver for the Artec T14A HDTV TUNER x64, correction Tag: 41608

Ghost menu's
I have users who have problems with parts of their Windows XP x64 system
appear when they are using a piece of software, by SolidWorks, they are on
Solidworks 2007 x64 edition and using NVIDIA with a x64 bit driver that
SolidWorks approves to work for their system.
SolidWorks and NVIDIA swear it is WINDOWS, and it seems that it's a guessing
game for who is responsible.
Users often have problems where they select, say File, from the File Menu
and part of that will NOT go away, you need to log off and on again for the
window part or menu to go away. It ghosts and blocks all other windows. It
stays there like you have a burned in image, but it is as if you still kept
it. Sorta like how one window blocks another. It is on multiple people's
system who have been used with Symantec Ghost, to create an exact copy of
their system for network builds for our corporate network. It is strange. Tag: Need driver for the Artec T14A HDTV TUNER x64, correction Tag: 41601

Need help with Virtual PC 2007
I installed Virtual PC 2007 on XP professional 64 bit edition. Once I boot
to the virtual environment, all I have is a CDrom drive and a floppy drive.
I did create a virtual hard drive but I cannot see it in the virtual
environment. Is there supposed to be a virtual hard drive available? If
so, I cannot find it.
I followed the instructions for installing an operating system on the
virtual hard drive but when I ran the setup program for win95 it didnt do
anything and just put me back at the a: drive cursor.
Does anyone know how to use Virtual PC 2007? Am I doing something wrong? I
read the help and it says I should be able to install an operating system on
it but there is no mention of what the Hard drive letter is in the virtual
environment.
Is XP pro 64 not supported?

Simple Question
I'd like to combine several of the Office Server products on one server. Some
of the office servers are 64 bit only and some are 32 bit. If I install them
on a 64 bit server using a 64 bit OS, will the 32 bit servers install and
function properly inside of a 64 bit OS?
Is there a list of Office products that shows which are 64 bit only and
which support both 32 and 64 bit? The system requirements on the MS site

X64, Quicken, Vista
I realize I should post this in Quicken and/or Vista forums as well, but I
figured I should start with the brain trust here, a bunch of truly smart
people.
I've got x64 and Vista (RC1 -- Build 5600) dual booting. The other day, I
reinstalled Quicken on the Vista partition. Already had it working fine on
x64. As best I could tell, Quicken was working fine on both OSes at first.
I could open and save in x64 and then open in Vista and all the stuff I had
updated while in x64 is updated in Vista. And vice versa.
Now, however, Vista seems to be stuck on an old Quicken file, missing recent
transactions, etc. I even tried opening the Quicken file while in Vista by
double-clicking on the file that I KNOW is the working Quicken file and had
just been updated while under x64. But it still brings up the old file
(without the recent transactions). And when I closed out Quicken in Vista,
that file remained unchanged (the date of the last revision remained the
same). I could be wrong about this, but I'm pretty sure Quicken saves a
file you've opened up, even if you didn't make any changes in the file
itself. So the modification date should have been different, but it wasn't.
Anybody have any idea what might be going on here and what I might do to fix
things?
I'm not trying too many options right now, because I don't want to hose my
Quicken file. The Vista and x64 "versions" of the file are about a week
apart now. (I know, I know, I can back up the good file so that I'll have it
on hand if I do hose it. It's just that I first discovered this problem a
couple days ago, and what with Thanksgiving, etc, I haven't had a lot of
time to futz with it.) Tag: Need driver for the Artec T14A HDTV TUNER x64, correction Tag: 41431

Buy 1 pack or 3 pack? (XP Pro x64)
Hi:
I have a dual opteron system, and I'm going to install XP Pro x64

I see that a OEM version is way cheaper, but I'm going to stay away

with 3 CD's is a lot more expensive. I can't find out why. My best

How can I know ....?
could be a very easy question and answer, but I don't know.
How could I know the SATA controller (driver) that are working with my two
HD??
why this?? from my last question in this group, of course they are not
connected to the Promise fast trak 378, but when the system was installed, I
didn't as I was not at home and the computer crash with XP-32 with
impossible recover (???), so I decide by phone to install my XP-64 with the
technical service, that I received some week before the crashing, but I
couldn't install as I was near to embark.
in these leaves I decide to change to liquid cooling system and the video
card, and I send to the tecnical service so they found in a trouble when
they couldn't start the system, I took the computer to home and I plug it
correctly and there was no problem at all.
before this I tried to made a clean install of the xp-64 and when I inserted
the FD of the SATA controller, everything was okay until XP told me that
there was not HD connected, 2 of the same size and builder and well pluged.
in device manager I have 3 SCSI and RAID controllers:
Promise Fast Trak 378 (tm) controller (AMD64) ---> this is not.
Promise RAID Console ???
VIA SATA RAID Controller ???
so, which one of these are controlling my HDs??, I have none RAID installed,
is there any way to know it?? just in case I'll have to re-install the o.s.

I don't see how it can be a hardware problem since I also have linux

Fix for avg email scanning in vista
Problem: cannot get avg to certify email in vista winMail or Thunderbird.
This
applies to incoming & outgoing mail.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email.
There is problem on Vista OS, which doesn't allow to AVG Personal Email
scanner to catch POP3/SMTP communication by automatic servers.
I recommend you to set settings for your email client and Personal E-mail
scanner.
Open AVG Control Center -> E-mail scanner -> Properties -> Properties
(button) -> Servers -> change the default settings by these :
POP3 : Host automatic
double click on the item POP3 -> Connection (tree menu) -> Fixed host ->
set your POP e-mail server name or IP address and select port e.g. 5110
SMTP : Host automatic
double click on the item SMTP -> Connection (tree menu) -> Fixed host -> set
your SMTP e-mail server name or IP address and select port e.g. 5025
Now is your personal E-mail scanner AVG7 set for one e-mail account in your
email client. You have to change settings in your email client:
Open Your email client and open e-mail account settings and change for your
e-mail account these values :
POP3 server : 127.0.0.1
SMTP server : 127.0.0.1
POP3 port : 5110
SMTP port : 5025
Now you can use e-mail client on MS Windows VISTA. We are still working on
the final version AVG which will have all features fully functional.

Classic ASP + ASP.NET 2.0 on Windows Server 2003 64 bit: possible?
Hello,
I have got a Windows Server 2003 64 bit that is running a Classic ASP
application.
The application uses COM objects (AspUpload, ChartDirector, just to
mention a few).
The IIS web site with the existing Classic ASP application is slowly
migrating into ASP.NET 2.0 but in the meantime the two applications
need to coexist.
Everything works perfectly in the development environment (32 bit) but
now that we are going into production a number of questions (and
problems) arise.
1) How can I tell if IIS is running in 32 bit or 64 bit mode?
2) Is it possible to have a Classic ASP application running in 64 bit
mode?
3) If 2) is possible, what happens with the COM components? Do I need a
64 bit version or the 32 bit version will work?
4) If 2) is not possible, will the only solution be to run both
portions of the application (Classic ASP and ASP.NET 2.0) in 32 bit
mode or it is possible to have Classic ASP in 32 bit mode and ASP.NET
2.0 in 64 bit mode (same server, same website)?
Quoting from
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/13f991a5-45eb-496c-8618-2179c3753bb0.mspx
"On 64-bit Windows, the World Wide Web Publishing service does not
support running 32-bit and 64-bit worker processes concurrently on the
same server."
This is probably the answer.
I have tried a few configurations, i.e. activating the ASP.NET 2.0 64
bit following the guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894435
but the result was that the Classic ASP application was not working at
all, or trying to create an instance of a COM object resulted in an
error.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

What, with Vista and the Asus System CD?
After installing Vista a while ago, I haven't really used it much. I've
spent the morning going through some of the details and I thought it was
performing rather well. Then I had a look at the 'System Score' (or what's
it called?) It got 5.3 with the FX-62 Processor as the determining factor,
Memory 5.7, Graphics 5.9 and HD 5.6 - I am sure this is not bad but I am
wondering about the CPU getting the lowest score in this setup. That, I had
not expected.
After installing I thought it looked as if everything basic was already in
place - now I wonder if I should put that CD to work after all? It does have
64bit directories, but nothing Vista specific, apparently!
It is a M2N32-SLI-Deluxe with 800Mhz memory, one 7900GTX Card, and Barracuda
HD's. The BIOS, I flashed at the first possible moment.
Yesterday I tried installing the printer on the XP x64 - when I booted this
morning Vista installed it on it's own within a few seconds (max. 30, I
think) That is impressing - all-in-all I might even begin to like major
parts of this, given enough time.

The /noexecute parameter is effective only on 32-bit-processes.It enables
software enforced DEP and,if the processor supports DEP,it also enables
hardware-enforced DEP.
On 64-bit processes,DEP is enabled by default and cannot be disabled
(equivalent to /noexecute=AlwaysOn).For these processes, the /noexecute

affects only 32-bit processes running on the system .

IE7 icon for .html file type fails to display
I installed the final version of IE7 on my WinXP 64-bit system this past
week. I'm using a brand new DELL Precision system with intel's Duo Core.
After installing IE7, the file type icon for all *.htm and *.html file types
all switched over to the default Windows icon typically displayed for
unregistered file types. I tried changing the icon in the file types tab
under file properties, but no matter what I did, WinXP simply refused to
change the icon.
Is this a WinXP x64 bug? I am logged in using the administrator's account.
What should I do to get the html file icons to display properly? Would
uninstalling and then re-installing IE7 do the trick? Or do I have to edit
the registry to force Windows to display the html file type icons properly?
...and oh...dear Microsoft, will there be a 64-bit version of TweakUI
available for WinXP x64? I found this utility has saved me a lot of headaches
in WinXP 32-bit in the past.

I don't know what started this, but if I try and access "my computer" either
through the start button or explorer. it takes many ,minutes for windows to
search and find all the folders and drives.
I don't know if something important got deleted or a setting was changed?
I've searched through all the things that I am aware of.

Colour management with two screens - ColorVision Spyder2 x64 driver
ColorVision have a 64 bit driver for their Spyder2 series. The driver is
unsigned and will not work with x64 Vista, but the software will install.
To download the driver, registration at www.colorvision.com is required and
the serial numbers from the software disks supplied with the Spyder2 are
required for installation.
With two screens the software can calibrate both screens separately. The
calibration window moves automatically to the selected screen.
The following applies to my nVidia 7600GS PCI-E card. It should apply to any
PCI-E graphics card, but may not apply to AGP graphics cards.
At logon with XP x64 only one profile can be loaded, but after logon using
ColorVision's ProfileChooser different profiles can be applied to each
screen, provided the profiles have been created by the ColorVision software.
The profiles are preserved if the screens are turned off by power management
With Vista RC2 - x64 and x86 - separate profiles can be loaded for each
screen at logon. The profiles are lost if the screens are turned off by
power management. The profiles can be reapplied using the ColorVision
ProfileChooser or logging off and back on again.
When transferring profiles to x64 Vista, there is a possible source of error
which will only apply to a few. If the graphics card has two DVI outputs,
Vista always selects the DVI monitor as its default if both DVI and analogue
monitors are connected, even if the DVI monitor is connected to the
secondary output. In the colour management window the monitors are presented
in the order primary output, secondary output which may not correspond to
the monitor numbering. Tag: Need driver for the Artec T14A HDTV TUNER x64, correction Tag: 41231

Vista MSDN Subscriber Release
Hi,
I notice that Vista has only been released to MSDN subscribers as the
English x86 version. I hear the x64 version is available to technet
subscribers, but when will it be available to MSDN subscribers?
