System

AMD64 3500
A8B-SLI Deluxe lateest bios etc.
winxp 32 on partinion drive c
winxp 64 drive d

My problem is during the intital installation phase, after I have select the
Win64 destination partition, the system begins to copy file but will randamly
say it cannont find certain .dll, sys files etc on the CD
please make sure cd is in drive, retry or skip.

I am attempting to install the trial from the microfot website which I
burnt to disk. I have re-download and re-burnt the ISO, but even with any
one cd, the files the computer connot find sometimes changes.

I have tried pointing the files on the CD manually, which I can see, but the
cumptuer fails to pick it up.

If I chose to skip files the install will complete but one resatrted will
ask for these files again. The result is automatic update, ie update, ie64 do
not function.

Help.

Your chipset is A8N-SLI Deluxe I would guess. Are you using SATA or IDE
drives. Have you tried to read your ISO on another drive or burn it on
another drive?

Hi,

I am using SATA Hard drives. My dvd drives are your normal ide (I have tried
both by the way)

I have expanded the ISO onto an independant hard drive and the files
requested by the computer seem to be there.

During the second stage of installation (ie first restart) I am able to
browse the additional SATA drive with the expanded ISO on it. When the
installatin program requests for the missing file I have attempted to use the
one on the exapnded ISO, but I recieve the same problem.

Once setp is compete

You cannot "expand" the files. You must use a program that can "burn from
disc image". Nero, Roxio, and all major burning apps support this function.
If you did not burn the .iso as a disc image it will not install.

One other point...random non-read or non-location of files on a known good
optical disc almost always indicates a problem with the RAM. Try installing
with only *ONE* stick of RAM. Even if the RAM is brand new, it may have
problems, and if using more that one stick, they should be a *MATCHED* set,
meaning that the two sticks have been tested together and their SPD timings
are sufficiently close that they will work together. If you simply bought
two separate stick of RAM, they may not be the same.

When you refer to the expanded ISO, have you expanded the original ISO,
which you probably downloaded to a hard drive, or did you expand the CD.
The problem others have had similar to yours involved bad memory.
Another possibility is that the latest BIOS requires that the chipset
drivers be updated BEFORE installing the BIOS. Per the ASUS site:

A8N-SLI Deluxe Bios version 1013
Please do read the description before updating BIOS
To avoid crashing file system, please do update the chipset driver to below
version prior to this Bios.
For WinXP 32bit system, please download and update chipset drivers V6.65 or
later
For WinXP 64bit system, please download and update chipset drivers V6.65 or
later

I don't see any way of performing this during the install, so it may be
necessary to go back to a previous BIOS version.

At least those are a few ideas you can think about until you get some expert
advice.

Hello Bobby,

I should have made myself a little clearer. I used NERO to create an
bootable installation CD - that works fine. As I can complete an installation
though one, that is flawed. When I mean expand, I mean I used WINRAR to put
the files on the hard disk to have a look if those files that were missing.

re the your ram suggestion, I will have a look at that, though I hope that
is not the problam as the memory I am using is matched corsair direct from
them. Thanks

Helo John,

I meant expand the original ISO. The CD I burnt using NERO boots up as a
installation fine (See above)

My current bios 1011 so I will try 1013.
Thanks

1011 should be high enough. I installed on 1010.

DO NOT update your BIOS to 1013 until after you finish your install per the
warning on the ASUS site.
