MS .NET Framework 2.0 fails to install. Attempts to create an automated
support request also fails; data collection tool "hangs" indefinitely and
Internet Explorer displays "error on page" message. The tool also cannot
collect the Product Identification Number; the MS PID "sniffer" Active X
control is absent from the system.

What system? How about some info?

x64 bit Windows XP Professional, self-constructed PC using Pentium D 950 CPU,
Intel motherboard D101GGC, RAID volume with stiping over mirroring 466 GB
recognized capacity (4x250 GB actual SATAII 300 MB/sec using add-in host
adapter), other hardware superfluous (ATAPI devices, modem, onboard LAN,
onboard audio adapter, onboard graphics adapter). Master boot record
installed on master IDE drive, boot device is the redundant array and Windows
installation is contained on the array. The MS automated data recovery
function is unable to collect the system information, and therefore cannot
create an automated support request.

Are you sure you installed the x64 version of .Net 2.0? I had no problems
installing it on XP x64.

Yes, the x64 version of the .NET Framework 2.0 - the 1.1 framework installed
normally, and all other x64 Windows OS updates install nominally. Winows
generates an error message, which I have submitted. I captured snapshots of
these errors using MSPAINT application.

You are eligible for support from Microsoft for installation issues with
patches and updates regardless of the fact that the base XP x64 is an OEM
product. I suggest you contact MS.
