This functionality is not available in Windows XP Professional x64, you can
minimize the program though. :)

The problem is that Media Player 10 is a 32-bit application. Runs fine, as
you've seen. But the taskbar is part of Windows Explorer, and thus 64-bit.
The ability to be part of the taskbar requires that the application dll be
64-bit -- a 32-bit DLL can't be loaded by the taskbar. Once we have a native
64-bit Media Player (Vista, realistically), we'll have this functionality.

This is actually one of the things I miss the most, so I understand your
frustration.

I too, have tried to make mini mode work, but alas, its not possible, it
seems.

This microsoft x64 document explains how they no longer support mini mode
for WMP10:

Thanks, Colin, but our Thanksgiving was in October. ;)

OTOH, you should, by all means, be offline and enjoying family!

Yes, but you used to have Columbus Day on the US Thanksgiving day. Too bad
he was such an evil dude to Canadians.

But up until a few years ago you used to have Columbus Day also. Have
traded grains on the Winnipeg Grain Exchange for years and the exchange was
closed for Columbus day on the US Thanksgiving day.
