Media Center Corrupted Recordings

Lately, two of my recordings (same show, same day of week, and same time)
have come out corrupted. It has only been those two recordings (out of
hundreds). When I try to play them I get a black screen and possibly an
error message. If I click stop and try again enough times I eventually get
the "Resume" option instead of "play". If I click "Resume" the video plays
just fine unless I try again from the beginning.

What is going on here? Is there a way to fix this? Is there a video
editing program I can use to repair the recordings?

You should post your reply in the mediacenter group (I set the
follow-up to it).

First, do these shows air at other times and can you try recording
at an alternative time to see if the same problem occurs? What show?
What source? What inputs from the tuner to your PC? Can you play
these shows in Windows Media Player? Vista or MCE 2005?

(No, it is unlikely that an editing program can repair this)

In response to a program for editing and repairing videos I can suggest you
the lightweight and freeware Virtualdub (www.virtualdub.org).
It even has separate x86 and x64 native versions.
Downloads are available at Sourceforge here:

I tried the program but it wouldn't open the dvr-ms extension.

I think the problem has something to do with the fact that this show is the
first of three shows that I record in a row. Maybe it's not cutting the
recording and starting the next one smoothly or something.

I tried the MediaCenter group but all the posts there are hebrew and the
response I got was not helpful.

Virtualdub is not opening that format because it is not finding any
available directshow decoder for the dvr-ms extension installed in your PC.
I am at work now so I cannot investigate what dvr-ms decoder would work.
I guess you are on Vista x64.
I also don't know whether Media Center (I don't use it) is 64-bit or 32-bit
in order to determine if an x86 or x64 dvr-ms decoder needs being installed.
Virtualdub x86 needs a 32-bit decoder and Virtualdub x64 needs a 64-bit
decoder.
Both decoders and Virtualdub's can coexist on the same Vista x64
installation without any intereference at all.

On 64 bit Vista, Media Center is 64 bit, etc.
