Hi folks,

I just had a strange experience, running Windows XP Pro x64..

I tried to delete a file from my hard disk, which was 800mb big. When
I deleted it, the file was gone, but I didn't get the space back.

I have updated the motherboard's SATA drivers and also run CHKDSK /F.
CHKDSK /F did fix some faults but I can still create files "for free"
or delete them and gain nothing. Also there seems to be no way for me
to get my 800mb back.

Does anyone know what I can do about this?

Mark

There's more than one way this can happen, but the most common is that it's
sitting in your Recycle Bin. Emptying that should recover some space.

Also, to be clear - there is nothing normal about chkdsk /f finding and
fixing errors. If chkdsk is seeing errors, you have problems and you need to
identify the source of those problems ASAP.

You emptied your Recyle Bin, did you? :-D All kidding aside, you might have
a program like Norton Undelete, which quarantine the files you try to
delete, keeping the space still in use, and then you need to remove them
with that program.
