I just put my system together and it was working fine under the administrator
account. I set everything up and it has been working. After updating the
security updates and creating user accounts, I can't log into xp anymore. I
get the audio that it's loading but it freezes either on the welcome screen
or the desktop picture without any icons or start menu. Take that back, it
doesn't freeze, it take 5+ minutes to load settings. What is causing this, I
repaired the install with the CD and it seamed to work fine until I
downloaded the updates. There are 21 updates that I'm downloading. Most of
them are Critical security updates. Any help will be appreciated.

Someone had a similar issue this week, a solution was not recommended but
there was a suggestion, maybe you want to try that:
From Carlos Atashian:
"Try running msconfig (Start, Run, msconfig <ENTER>) and see what programs
get loaded at the start group (last tab). There might be some unneeded
resident apps there that might be clogging your system."

I looked into that, but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I just
listed all apps in the last tab start group and I'm using the CD to repair
the install. I'm going to try and isolate the problem. If I figure it out,
I'll post it here.

Please do, you could probably try customizing the download your updates and
select only a few at a time.

Well, I've come to the conclusion that it is not the security update, It now
does it even after I repair the install. Starting over on trying to figure
it out. Maybe Video, or memory?? If anyone has any suggestions please post
them. If anyone has the same problem please post it here also. Thank you.

Why don't you log on in Safe mode, and VGA mode and let us know it either
makes a difference and what the differences are.

I figured it out!!! It was something to do with the network that I was
trying to set up in my house. I used the wizard and set it up to connect to
hub and for file/printer sharing. I finally figured it out when I shut my
printer down and xp seemed to freeze. I went back in and changed it to file
and printer sharing off. I need to see if I may have set something up wrong
as far as my old computer verse my new. They weren't seeing each other, and
I read something earlier today that may help with my network. Thank you
Andre Da Costa and John Barnes.

Good for you! :) I never would have guessed Network, File & Print Sharing
would be the cause, but I guess this adds meaning to anything being
possible. Keep us updated on your progress.
