MS Life cam doesnt work
I have just gotten a new box its an amd sempron dual core 64 bit machine
with xp 64 with a Nvida geforce 7600 gt gfx card when i try and start the
life cam I get can not start as you must be running at LEAST 800 by 600 and
16 bit colour, I am running 1152 by 864 32 bit so it doesnt make sense I am
running better than the cam wants and it refuses to start up at all.
To avoid problems i brought an MS cam for this machine so i could webcam
take pics etc to show people and it does not work if MS cant make there own
products 64bit ready what the hell am i supposed to do with hunk of crap
that doesnt work and isnt supported I want my damn money back from MS thats

I refuse to see why i should be expected to pay 47 pounds for suport making
thier junk work no wonder gates is so rich he rips you off by not giving FREE
support like he should. any help from MS in making this work would be usefull

About ordering the 64-bit version of Windows Vista for 9.95?!
About aweek ago I went to www.windowsvista.com/1033/ordermedia and I typed
in all of the needed info that is asked then ordered a 64-bit version of
Windows Vista Home Premium for 9.95 and in my mail on 02/08/07 I received a
64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Basic. So I know that I was sent the
wrong disc, because I am thinking that if I download the 64-bit version of
Windows Vista Home Basic over my currently installed version of 32-bit
Windows Vista Home Premium then I will lose all of the features of Home
Premium and would only have Home Basic(albeit a 64-bit). Unless I am wrong?
So if I called Microsoft will they fix this issue and send me out the 64-bit
version of Windows Vista Home Premium at no charge or will I be charged
another $9.95 to get the correct disc?
Has this happened to anyone else? Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44497

Unable to install "Client for Microsoft Networks" in XP64
Hi,
I'm building a new C2D rig and I have XP64 on it. The install goes
fine, I got sound and video drivers, IE7 64-bit is nice and all, but
this one problem is a real show-stopper. I got the network drivers
installed, TCPIP works, but the Client for Microsoft Networks just
refuses to install. When I try to add it, I get this:
"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The remote
procedure call failed."
This is the built-in ethernet on an Intel DP965LT board, BIOS updated,
all drivers are latest. Intel says these are specific 64-bit drivers.
Poking around Google I see I'm not the only person to have this
problem. However, solutions seem to be lacking, and many of the things
I am seeing are fairly old (6+ months) so they are unlikely to be of
any help.
Anyone run into anything like this? Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44479

ODBC drivers in Windows x64 Professional Edition
Is there currently a way to make an ODBC connection from a 64-bit application
to Access and Excel files? My understanding is that a 64 bit ODBC driver is
required when creating 64 bit applications.
Is there an alternative to ODBC to connect a 64 bit application to Access
and Excel?
- I specifically want to target x64 machines so setting target machine to
x86 in my compiler options (in order to use the 32bit ODBC driver
equivalents) is not an option.
- I specifically do not want to go through SQL Server.
You figure there would be a way considering Windows and Office are the two

Boot Problems with Xp Pro x64
I am building a computer and installing XP Pro x64 for the OS. I am using a
Intel Core 2 Due 6400 processor which uses the Intel EM64T archecture so it
should support the OS, but the computer will not boot normally, and I can not
figuer out why. It goes through the POST process fine and then when the
windows screen should appear the compuer stops processing. The monitor goes
blank as if it is in power save mode (the monitor) the same as would happen
if the video signal had been cut. Also the OS will load if i boot in Safe

being used for a network or anything, just a single PC.

Runaway csrss.exe use 4GB, how to kill?
Hi.
We have a problem at one of our servers. One (out of 4) csrss.exe
process uses 1.1GB of mem and 4GB of VM. That process seems to be dead
(as in not doing anything) and I'd like to kill it. The server is
almost out of virtual memory and will crash in 5-10 hours.
OS is Windows 2003 EE on IA64.
Anyway, my questions are:
- Is it safe to kill the csrss.exe process?
- What's the recommended way to kill it?
- Does anyone know the cause of our problems?
Rebooting is not an option yet. We will be forced to reboot in a day
or two, but cannot accept any down time right now.
Thanks in advance for all answers.

Installing 64bit from 32 bit.
I know this may sound like a repeat, but I have a interesting question.. So
far I havent quite gotten all the info I needed... I have bought a Vista
home premium and found out I could order a 64bit dvd. I tried to order a
64bit dvd using windows xp MCE at the time, but to no success..
So I then went and proceeded to install my Vista HP (home premium) 32bit and
was able to order the 64 bit OS. When I was trying to order the 64bit dvd, I
had to have vista installed for the ordermedia website to validate my license
code.
Since I have already activated the 32bit product key, would I be able to
activate the license code on the 64bit *after replacing 32bit with 64bit*
without having to call in MS and ask for activation to the 64bit from the
32bit? I plan to switch to 64bit when I get the DVD.
So far I havent seen any info regarding the activating with the switch from
32 bit to 64bit :)

PC world from whom I bought this software have offered me a full refund.
they also made me aware that if I were to purchase the ultimate(as this

.Net Framework 1.1 SP1 on Vista x64 - Supported?
I'm trying to install the .NET Framework 1.1 on Vista Business x64, RTM. I
downloaded the 11/29/2006 build that says it supports Vista. It specifically
calls out x64 2003 and XP, but not x64 Vista so maybe it's not supported?
When I try and run the dotnetfx.exe installer I get a UAC prompt (expected),
I click Yes on "Would you lke to install Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1
Package" and then immediately I get "An error occurred while Windows
Installer was initializing. Setup will now close."
So I try and get cleaver and extract all the files from the self-extracting
executible and run the netfx.msi package. I then get a compatibility warning
and it directs me to the 1.1 SP1 download. I go ahead and install the base
1.1 package and then install the SP1 package. I get another compatibility
warning on the SP1 package that tells me to download the SP1 package, the
very one I'm trying to install! Microsoft, please get your story straight. :-)
After all of that, it seems to have installed. Is this really a supported
configuration and should I expect problems, or were the warnings false
alerts? I didn't see any additional updates beyond SP1 for .Netframework 1.1
that I need. I ran Windows Update and it didn't flag any more updates or
patches.
So my two comments/questions are:
1. Microsoft, please fix the installer so that I don't need to manually
extract the base install files and run the .MSI packge.
2. Fix the compatibility warning for the SP1 file so that it doesn't
re-direct me to the very download that I'm installing to fix the first
compatibility warning.
3. Or repackage the .Net Framework 1.1 and SP1 into a single package so that
you don't get any warnings and it just works. Gasp! :-)
4. Is this really supported on Vista x64? Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44312
logonui.exe and lsass.exe cpu usage when more than 20 user account
Hi,
I'm using XP x64 on an IBM Blade server (Xeon 3.2Ghz) and I need several
users accounts for my application.
The problem is when the number of accounts exeeds 20 â?? the logonui.exe and
lsass.exe take 30% of the CPU usage, which is quite a lot. (lsass.exe â??
20%-22%)
Some facts about the problem â??
1. I installed all critical and optional windows updates for the x64.
2. I tries to replace the logonui.exe with a new one (with a new logon
screen, just to see if the file is corrupt or not).
3. When the accounts number is 10 there is no problem.
4. My application needs the option to switch users so I canâ??t disable this
option.
5. I have several Blade servers with the same configuration and the problem
occurs on them all.

Upgrade vs Upgrade - not a faq but maybe some answers. Comments and Corrections welcomed.
1. any version of XP or windows2000 qualifies you to use the upgrade
version of vista (32 bit or 64 bit)
2. 32 bit systems upgrading to 32 bit Vista can do a conventional
upgrade preserving compatible programs, user settings data files etc.
3. Going from any version of XP (or 2000) to 64 bit Vista is not what
you would normally call an upgrade.
4. If you have a 32 bit xp and decide to install 64 bit vista, you
are probably going to have to boot into the vista dvd to start the
install.
5. If you have a 64 bit version of XP, the install may be started
from windows, but will put all that exists on the system drive in a
folder called windows.old. If you want to make any changes to your
Hard Drive, ie format or repartition and format or extend it, you must
boot off the Vista install dvd. Also, the anytime upgrade process
will act just like your initial install, except I believe it must be
started from windows, but the 64 bit version once again will move
everything on the system drive into windows.old. As yet I have no
experience with the 32 bit anytime upgrade.
6. During the install of 64 bit Vista if you have booted off the
Vista dvd and you tell it to format the drive, there is no Are you
sure? followed by "to format the drive press F" So be sure of what
you want to do before answering any prompts.
7. If you purchase an Upgrade version, you must have an installed
previous version. Vista will not Qualify the upgrade by inserting
install media, So no "bare metal" installs with upgrade Product Keys.
if you want to do a "bare metal" install you need the full product or
OEM product,
8. The only version that has both 64 and 32 bit media is Vista
Ultimate. If you get one of the other versions of the full product of
an Upgrade it will have only 32 bit media. OEM versions are available
in either 32 bit or 64 bit but not both in one package. If you buy a
32 bit version (Upgrade or Full Product) you may order the 64 bit
media from Microsoft. The Same product key will work for either. In
fact it is My understanding that all the 32 bit media is the same, and
all the 64 bit media is the same, the Product Key controls what you
can install off the media.
Hope this helps someone.

Windows Vista 64 or Windows Vista 32 for AMD 64 FX-57
Ok, my head has been spinning researching and trying to decide once I do
upgrade to Windows Vista which to get the 32 or 64 bit versions. Here is my
scenario: I am a gamer and I have an AMD 64 FX-57 CPU, Two Nvidia 7800 GTXâ??s
in SLI mode, (which I plan to replace with an Nvidia DirectX 10 Video Card),
an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard (can support up to 4gig of ram), I have 2
gigs of dual channel pc 3200 ram, a Sound Blaster Xfi sound card, on board
Ethernet card, a Linksys router, and a Cannon Multipass MP730 printer. I use
a Raid configuration with 2 WD Raptors. I also have two other computers
networked together that are NOT 64 bit capable. I also play new games as well
as games that are a year or two old. Some current games I will or am playing
are: EQ2, WoW, Splinter Cell Double Agent, Neverwinter Nights 2, Titan Quest,
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Vanguard, Company of Heroes, Oblivion.
I already ran the Vista test program to see if I'm compatible which I am for
the most part except for drivers for my XFi soundcard and Nero.
Here are my questions:
1) I hear about a lot of compatibility issues with 64 bit windows, for
example, not supporting 16 bit applications that some install programs still
use (not sure what ones), issues with older software and hardware and not
allowing unsigned drivers to be installed, etc.
2) Will the 64 bit version work well with my PC with the hardware and games
I have?
3) I heard you should have 4 gig of ram for 64 bit vista is that true? Is 2
Gig of Ram too low for 64 bit windows? Will this all work with my Motherboard?
4) What games (or a site that lists them) do not work with Vista 64 bit but
do work with 32 bit?
5) Will not allowing to install unsigned drivers be a major issue for gamers
who need updates for the latest game to work since video drivers for example,
are updated frequently but not yet signed by Microsoft? Which I assume takes
a lot longer.
6) I know you can't get a 64 bit upgrade version of Vista if you only have a
32 bit version of XP now, but If I get the full version of 64 bit Ultimate,
can the two additional keys I get for $50 each be for 32 bit versions of
windows (for my two non-64 bit PC's?).
7) What if I got the 64 bit Home premium can I get 32 bit version upgrades
with the family discount or does it all need to be 64 bit versions?
7) If I went 64 bit Vista will the other non-64 bit PCâ??s have trouble
communicating with each other in anyway like via network or copying files
etc.?
I do not plan to get Vista right away due to the fact that stable
established drivers need to come out still for all the hardware like my poor
Soundblaster XFi, but in a few months I will. Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44271

32-Bit Drivers on 64-Bit System
I heard from a collegue at school that Microsoft makes a patch that will
allow 32-bit drivers to be emulated on a 64-bit system. Does anyone know if
this is correct? I just built a system running XP x64 and need a driver for
my Linksys WUSB54G v.1 device; however, Linksys only has 64-bit drivers
available for the v.4 device. Am I just out of luck on this one? Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44259
64-bit HELP!
I'm looking to upgrade soon and i need help. I know my processor can handle
the 64 bit Vista, but I have MCE and I don't know if it is 32 bit or 64 bit.
And depending on what is installed now do I have to format and reinstall? If
thats the case do I have to buy an upgrade or the whole thing. Finally do I
have to buy a special version for 64-bit? Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44257
Slow File Copying
I have a removable hdd in a rack that is connected to the mb via a ide
ribbon cable, when I do a backup/file copy from my primary sata hdd
the pc grind to a halt basically, with my mouse starting to jerk in
slow motion across the screen when moved around. When this happens the
the cpu history in the task manager for the one cpu drops to nothing
and the other core gets quiet active. Is this problem due to the
settings on the ide removable hdd as this problem does not happen when
I copy files to other hard drive on the network. Tag: List of 64bits application for window vista (x64) Tag: 44255
Reverting to Vista 32-bit after installing Vista 64-bit?
I installed Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my computer without major problems
except for 2 pieces of hardware (logitech Quick Cam Communicat & and a USB
Video Capture DVDXpressDX2) that are not recognised and don't want to
install.
Can I install Vista 32-bit over Vista 64 without doing a clean install
again?
