Hello all,

I need Java for some aplications on the net (especially Online Banking). But
I couldn't find a version to install.
I went to www.java.sun.com and chosed under popular downloads the J2SE 1.4.2
SDK link. Then I took the Download J2SE JRE link and wanted to install the
package for Windows Platforms j2re-1_4_2_09-windows-i586-p.exe
After downloading an error occured during installation: "Windows Installer
has encountered a problem and needs to close."

So I can't install this.

Has everyone an idea where I can find a version for X64?

Thanks

as a caveat, the xp-pro x64 has two IE browsers. In my experience the 64-bit
browser will not accept Java. Java get's installed on the 32-bit version of
IE.

First read the info on the following page:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/install-windows-64.html and note the
following:

Installation Instructions
This procedure installs the JDK, but not the Java Plug-in, Java Web
Start or public Java 2 Runtime Environment (which are not yet available
for 64-bit Windows).

* AMD 64
The JDK for Windows AMD 64 comes bundled as an executable file
jdk-1_5_0_<version>-windows-amd64.exe. To install this version,
double-click this icon. For other details, follow the 32-bit Windows
installation. Beta 1 has no update, patching, plugin or webstart support.

Then go here to download the software:

https://jsecom15b.sun.com/ECom/EComActionServlet;jsessionid=E6CD8C53B3F19001E67F334934E8EE6A

I know, that there are two browsers, but with both I can't use java and I
don't know how to install it only on the 32 bit one.

Hi Rick,

first of all thank you for your information, but I don't understand exactly
what I should do. Because if I open the first link you've posted, there
stands: "To install this version, double-click this icon" But I can't see any
icon.

For the second link I have to register. Mayby I do this now.

If you have Nvidia firewall installed, Websites and downloads can be
effected. Go to "add/remove programs" to uninstall Nvidia firewall, Then
Java should install.

I have this in my downloads section on my site. You can grab it there
(Registration Required). Or you can grab it directly from Sun's site
from their downlads section by doing a search on JRE x64.

..... J2SE(TM) Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 .....

Hello Imhotep,
Even if you get "jre-1_5_0_04-windows-amd64.exe" to install you will still
have a problem. The plugins for the 64 bit Explorer are not available at this
time. My only suggestion at this time is to install the 32bit Java plugins
and use the 32bit explorer. I was able to install
"jre-1_5_0_04-windows-amd64.exe" and my 64bit explorer was not effected. I
guess we'll just have to wait

Andre that artical might apply to us but the links lead to a download only
for anything below server 2003 SP1 since the windows installer 3.1 is
intergrated with windows XP X64 and server 2003 SP1 the download link would
be useless for them since it will only install on 32bit OSs only.

They could try this patch Update for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
(KB898715) which also is for X64 (which is the V2 update for us)

Hello DKI,

I'm not able to install the Windows Installer, because I have to do a
Windows Original Check bevore I can download it. But this Check fails -
maybey because my Windows X64 Edition is an 360 day demo version. But it's
legal and registered at microsoft.

I don't know what to do know.

The error Message is:

Your current browser cannot run the ActiveX control required by the genuine
Windows validation process.
Let's try validating a different way:

But this different way also isn't available for me now. A new Browser window
pops up and it says:
Action canceled

Aha! Another who has fallen foul of the failed "Windows Genuine Advantage"
check that doesn't work on an x64 machine! See other thread "activex in x64"

Hello DKI,

I was able to download the KB898715 as you said. In the download were to
files:
WindowsServer2003-KB898715-ia64-deu
If I run this there comes an error message: "This file is valid, but its for
a machine type other than the current machine."

WindowsServer2003-KB898715-x86-deu
if I run it, there comes an error message: "This KB898715 is for another
hardware platform designed" And I can't install it.

So both Windows Installer Update Files diden't work. :(

I use Windows XP X64 and it works fine for me with the 32bit browser
Its odd that the active x does not install cause i had no issues with it
what so ever. did you click on the like from in outlook and it open up or
right click on it and click open even in outlook or IE i find that it opens
up the 64bit IE which could be why.
