I'm aware that the 64-bit version of XP was built on top of the 2003+SP1
code base rather than XP+SP2, thus there is no service pack (yet) for XP x64
called "SP2"...or SP1 for that matter, as it's built-in...

But is there a service pack for the 64-bit version of 2003 itself? Or was
it also built from the (32-bit) 2003+SP1 code base?

I'm looking at my MSDN subscription DVDs, and the labels dosn't exactly make
it glaringly obvious...I have a 2003 DVD dating from June and another from
November--the only difference, according to the label, is the addition of
SP1 to the 32-bit version of 2003. But if the service pack for the 32-bit
version of 2003 wasn't on the June DVD, then I'm thinking surely that this
x64 image of 2003 dating from June doesn't have it either?

(this is a Monday morning question...I'm easily confused right now) ;-)

There is a SP1 for Windows XP Professional x64, but it comes integrated,
based upon the same code base as Server 2003 SP1.

Same as XP Professional x64, Server 2003 x64 comes integrated with SP1 based
off the the Server 2003 SP1 code base.

I know that Server 2003 for Itanium Systems also has a SP1, not sure if its
the same code base since the Inel Itanium 64 bit architecture is different
from AMD 64.

No difference. All x64 editions of Windows, both server and XP, were built
on the same code base, and shipped at the same time. The Itanium versions of
Server also shipped SP1 versions at that time, FWIW.

Thanks Charlie (and Andre), that's what I suspected.

It seems obvious now that I've taken a look at the MSDN download site--there
is no separate download available for any x64 service pack. Maybe that's
where I should've started looking...

OTOH, this beg the question--if Win2K3 SP1 (32-bit, obviously) was released
back at the start of the year, why is it that my June 2005 DVD didn't
include it...when it was out a lot earlier than that...and it was *only*
finally included on the November DVD...

You probably want to drop that question in the microsoft.public.msdn.general
ng
Are you referring to the integrated SP1 with Server 2003 or standalone SP1?
Check your DVDs between March and June 2005.

Agreed.

Both, actually.

This is a new Microsoft Partner subscription that I started receiving in the
September/October timeframe. I got the June DVD as part of the initial
shipment, with no sign of the (32-bit) SP1--although SP1 is built into the
64-bit versions of XP and 2K3 that are also on that DVD. Then a few weeks
later I got this updated November DVD (xxxx.1), which *does* contain the
32-bit 2K3 SP1. Hence the source of my confusion...

AHHHHHH. NOT, MSDN. But the Partner pack.

Things tend to be a bit slower finding their way into the partner pack.
OTOH, they have a much more liberal licensing policy. :) The Server SP1
releases didn't ship in the partner pack until this fall, as you've
observed. True for everyone. OTOH, this last shipment had 10 nice shiny new
licenses for x64 Edition.

Wellll.......... :-)

The company I work for has had MSDN Universal subscriptions for years, but
we've only recently got into the Partner program. Most of the DVDs shipped
are identical to the MSDN ones, with a few exceptions. Thus I didn't think
it was really necessary to point this out...

They're similar, but not the same. And the timing of when you get disks is
different, as are the licensing provisions. I have both here. I use MSDN for
my test bed networks. I use the Action Pack (Partner program) for my
internal infrastructure.
